Hey! I forgot to come back and give an update. My delivery was actually very complicated, unfortunately. Baby heart rate slowed down. Had meconium in the womb and I developed a high fever. All in the middle of PUSHING! I was just about to be rushed for an emergency c section and with one final push my sweet healthy baby girl came! Heart rate went back to normal and my fever dropped and she didn’t inhale any meconium so no respiratory issues. Seriously guys it was SUCH A BLESSING and God truly watched over my family and I that night. You know birthing is the closest thing to death we women can experience so I am forever grateful for my sweet bundle of joy 🙏🏽💕💕
I'm 39 weeks tomorrow, this'll be baby #3 and I'm so SO ready to meet her ☺️💝 my first two kiddos were quick labours, 5 hours labour with my first, and then 4 hours labour with my second so we anticipate that baby #3 will be an even quicker labour!

Thanks! It could be noted that the "shot" given to stimulate the placenta release is optional- breastfeeding can create hormonal messages so that the placenta is released without the shot, correct? Also, delayed cord clamping can be hugely beneficial to the experience of the baby. Some even choose lotus birth, letting baby detach from its placenta on its own time, 3-4 days after birth.
Amazing video! With so many other “talking” videos out there there was nothing simplifying and clearly describing the process with visuals. Thankfully, this video puts so many doubts to rest. Thank you Armando!
Thank u so much sir for your valuable guidance.. as I am medical student your videos are very useful while studying. as I am waiting for more videos from obstetrics and gynecology subject as well as medicine and surgery.
3:48 - Complete dilation and crowning do not happen at the same time. 10 cm dilation is the end of the first stage of labor and is when baby begins to enter the vagina (and cannot be seen from the outside yet). Crowning is the end of the 2nd stage of labor, after baby has descended through the pelvis and his/her head has exited the mother's body at it's widest point.
@@FedUpZebra Yes, you're correct. The new definitions of labor stages identify 6 cm as the start of the active phase of dilation, but prior to a few years ago (using Friedman's curve from 1955) it was measured from 4 cm.
I have experienced pain free between contractions… but no. Without drugs, even with all the peace and calm mindset and fantastic mindfulness strategies…IT STILL HURTS!! About to have my 5th, drug free.

hi doula...is it just me recognising all these drawings and other videos i have seen are showing the woman in semi recumbent positions!!!!....none of my ladies birth in that position...they nearly all birth knealing or on all fours!!!!....sometimes standing squat!....i would love to be able to show my ladies a video where the woman is in this more natural position...think i will have to make one myself
Maddie Porte thankfully, many hospitals employ some measure of delayed clamping now as more science has come out to support the practice. The shot to deliver the placenta isn’t always given either (another practice falling out of favor), additionally, you have every right to decline the shot if you wish.
The purpose of giving pitocin as an injection or via IV after baby is born is not to deliver the placenta but to prevent hemorrhaging after the placenta is birthed.

Very insightful and awesome lecture. I just gave birth to my son 2 weeks ago and it really helps when I studied how the body works during labor. My active labor took about 40 minutes normal delivery and only gas mask I used. The body knows how and when to work during avtive labor we only just have a bit 9f knowledge to work together with our body. This is a very helpful video. 😚😍💟👍
Just to correct you- babies being born by breech poses no risk. The doctors are just not trained to deliver breeched babies. And thus mothers suffer because of this incompetence
@@starlight8290 The risk is associated with how well the practioner is to deal with such things! Good video and great drawings but STOP using the word painful! Labour is a natural event that doesn't need to be painful - watch a hypnobirthing video. Also placenta delivery can occur naturally as well as following an injection, there are choices. Cord clamping shouldn't happen instantly after birth (unless clinically necessary). Delayed cord clamping is proven to be very beneficial for babies -see NICE guidelines.
That would be nice if you could update this nice overview, which stays purely anatomical and expand it to the modern one, including the bonding stage of mother and her baby, which is considered to be the 3rd stage, which progresses into 4th, the delivery of the placenta, once mothers and baby’s hormonal signals send the msg that it’s no longer needed. Just to be up to date with modern obstetrics and newest trends. Otherwise the scheme is great, thank you
If you're referring to the Golden Hour, the third stage and the golden hour overlap, as the birth of the placenta happens within minutes of baby being born. The golden hour isn't a physiologic part of the birthing process but rather an acknowledgement that the first hour of transition after birth are critical for mother and baby alike. This time frame being labeled as such was a practice implemented to ensure that the bonding time is protected, since routine Hospital practices have long been to quickly separate mom and baby in order to do examinations and measurements.

Heidi Duncan yes but if your iron is at a good level then you don’t need it!
Heidi Duncan the true reason it’s needed is because doctors are always rushing the process!
It amazes me how childbirth is such a complex and hard process yet is treated by everyone like something easy just because it’s considered “natural”
