#chevy #volt #electriccar After getting these positive results, we have decided to test this in a city environment and will be doing that experiment soon so stay tuned for that. Great video....My first-generation Chevy Volt (2015) is "Absolutely Amazing"! This car rocks. It is very heavy, and the car feels stable and solid. Quick as a rabbit! Easy to park, maneuver, and is a great city car. My car gets around 45 miles of range on average per charge. This car is built well, no rattles or squeaks so far. The only downside is driving with the windows down is the most annoying thing about this car. This September I will have owned my car for 5 years and only been to the gas station a few times. I have only driven in "L" low gear since I owned it and at times, I will play with it in SPORT mode. Lastly, I Love, Love, Love how quiet it is...I call it my Ninja mobile because it makes no noise. Mine came with Leather & Suede Seats, Navigation, Rear View Camera, Red Exterior with Tan Interior, and front heated seats. Best car I have ever owned.
thanks it rocks we love it too......just had it's 5 year update and also did a low versus drove city test and will be sharing it soon....hope to keep this for many years to come
Awesome test. Love your outfits for the trip too at 7:22. 25.6mpg vs 24.8mpg wasn't a huge difference, but over a long period it is. Low is the way to go! I think the city driving experiment will be interesting too.
Great experiment. Personally, I don't like driving in low at highway speeds, probably the old school in me so I stick to drive and throw the Volt into "hold" mode on the freeway (Usually between 70 - 80 mph) and save the battery for off-ramps, small towns. Driving on battery is more fun to me, especially in sport mode. I usually get upper 30s, low 40s in the summer, not so much in the winter. I suspect those bikes on the back were knocking your mileage down. Also, good career path for your son. When we had solar installed, the installers said they are always looking for electricians, etc.. If in fact, he likes that kind of thing. Many other careers in electric as well.
Oh yeah we love electric mode and we love sport mode and we are going to be doing this experiment over the net few weeks in the city.....we rarely have to drive on the highway but thought we'd use this trip as an opportunity to check this whole thing out and it's cool that we were able to see the difference it made in mpg and breaking and also that one foot driving stuff which was nice
Interesting experiment! One thing: When you push the brakes, unless you are really on them hard (going to friction brakes), it's doing regen braking. I just mostly use D and reserve L for long downhill or heavy stop-and-go slow traffic. Thanks for the video (Gen1 Volt owner here).
it has been nice to see how far these electric vehicles have come might get on some day but there needs to be more charging stations and would like to see them charge cars faster somehow
We are supposed to have a EV we ordered it well over a year ago & they keep pushing our delivery date back blaming lots of reasons why they cant get them into the UK 🤔😳 This was interesting to watch, Thanks for sharing it with us 👍🥰 Hope your all having a nice week, stay safe & Take Care ❤️x
Hopefully you can get one the ones they have now are much better than this Volt but we are definitely gonna try to keep this in the family seeing as it has the attributes of being both electric and changing into a hybrid we are going to redo this study in the city and the results, of course will be drastically different compared to going 80 to 90 miles an hour through the mountains lol
I thought the Gen2 should get around 42 mpg on gas only, my Gen1 gets right at 37 mpg gas only. I was surprised to see 25 mpg from your Gen2 on gas only. Thanks for making this video!
@@markaruski well like we said in the video…..a very high speed trip and also the bikes and rack and a lot of luggage but from day to day we are around 90% electric👍👍
Thanks Fishman.....we are excited to see how the city driving experiment comes out.....chances are there will be more of a difference but time will tell.....the saving on the breaks and the one foot driving is definitely a huge bonus too!
That's an awesome driving experience. E-car is good for environment. Here in Norway, a lot of people used e-car even the public transportation/buses and they also have free charging station specially TESLA company.
Hey Dan & Pamela, this is a cool comparison. 😂 at Pamela being a fashion diva. 😁 cute Easter outfit Pamela & nice pink shirt Dan. You both look great. That is great you had a good time. That is interesting about the hills in low. Cool results. FW & have a great day
Thanks.....we had a great time and so did Jack, but we are certainly going to test this out over the next couple weeks in the city stop and go traffic and expect much more of a difference!
If I'm not mistaken, using the foot brake with the Chevy Volt is blended with both regenerative, for soft braking and regular (using the brake pads), for heavy braking. The car makes the choice depending on how hard you press on the brake. In other words, it shouldn't make a difference on a long highway drive if you use the foot brake because you are not slowing down drastically enough for the car to use the brake pads. Maybe that's why the mpg difference was so little. For city driving the regular brakes are used more because regenerative braking can only slow the car down to a certain speed, after that the brake pads have to be used to stop. Let me know if this is correct.
we just took it in for it's 5 year check up and the mechanic told us yes but also that for 55,000 miles the break pads had less use than usual and we don't do a lot of highway driving. He has worked on Volts since they were released. Also, we did a city test as well and will release that video soon. it wasn't a perfect test but as close as we could get it. We had an extra mile using Low and that's enough to convince us it's worth doing, in addition to less breaking and one foot driving. Some folks might not care either way, but we like the Low gear driving and also see a difference in miles and break pad life enough to use it.
Look out ,,,,adult spring adventure. I never use cruse but my wife does. Thanks for doing another video on this as I am really torn between getting a hybrid or just electric for our next vehicle. We only have one vehicle
well we gained 1 mpg and saved a lot of breaking so I'm sold on using LOW forever now.....Jack and I will be doing a long term city experiment and we are sure the difference with stop and go everyday driving will be much more than 1mpg but we won't know for sure until we put it to the test!
Go electric, Bolt costs $27,000 new plus you still get a rebate at tax time. Hybrids get the same mileage as their all gas counterparts it would appear based on this experiment. The Bolt’s 65 kWh battery can go 250 miles at $.12 cents per kilowatt home charging, closer to gas using level 3 charging. And you don’t have to maintain two driving systems. No gas, oil, transmission, starter, rarely needs brakes, just change the cabin filter every 35,000 miles and your tires as needed.
Looks a great drive over 400 miles in low drive and high when you come back, looks an awesome place at the barn were you went for an Easter meal, both looked geat, loved Pamelas outfit and your pink shirt 😊congratulations to your daughters forthcoming marriage 🎉

I have a 2013 Volt that's never had new brake pads. They wear very little because of regen.
Interesing experiment my dear, I enjoyed to the 11:00

800 Mile Chevy Volt Road Trip Experiment - One Way In LOW versus One Way In Drive!
