OMG I ALSO HATE THIS EPISODE!!. LOVE YOUR ANALYSIS!! The only reason I think the writers treated bad Buttercup its because she is seen as the most violent and independent Powerpuff Girl. I mean, Blossom it's independent too, but she kinda sticks with other people to get approval o help other with her own methods and ethics; and Bubbles can have her rage fits but are rare. Buttercup seems to be the most capable to alienate from others and go by herself, solving most of her and other peoples problems with negation and violence. Of course in a certain degree because it's clear in other episodes she is not a fan of being by herself (like the episode she doesn't take a bath) and neither she lives for violence.
But because the writers see more of her toughness, they constructed her episodes and punishments to be tough as her (and sometimes make her more violent than she is). It's a shame because they could have explored more her sensible side (like you say) and show that even the rudest persons can have a sensible side in with friends and family can approach and have a legitimate and constructive conversation.

There was a comic issue of the Powerpuff Girls similar to it & it was done better.
The plot was Bubbles loosing her first baby tooth (like in the cartoon), but instead of Buttercup being the bad guy; it was Mojo Jojo.
Mojo disguises himself as the Tooth Fairy to steal Bubbles ' tooth (long story).
And in the end, Bubbles gets a quarter & a note the Tooth Fairy to thank her for believing in her.

For a possible reason, the show's writers must've hate Buttercup. I can't believe they gave her the worse episodes even as the main character. I really hate the episodes that show's writers created for her, especially "Moral Decay", many characters on the episode were really out of character. 😠 She doesn't deserve that kind of treatment (at all), even though she is a fictional character. 😖
Luckily, there are few good episodes about Buttercup and each episode gave her great characterization and true human traits. These are the two episodes that I'm talking about: "Buttercrush" and "Make Zen Of Me", those are my favorite episodes that focused on Buttercup. She is a superhero with great intentions, she cares about the people she loves, especially her family and fight for justice.
Ever since I watched *The Powerpuff Girls* since day one (I was four years old when the show came on air on Cartoon Network), Buttercup became my favorite Powerpuff girl because she is a tough little cookie with a heart of gold. A kind-hearted tomboy similar to Helga from "Hey Arnold" and Ashley Spinelli from "Recess."
    🌷💛
At the age of seven, I used to dressed up as her on Halloween. 😊
If the writers continue the show with Season 7 or TV specials, they could've wrote better and sweet storylines for Buttercup: as the main character.
For an example, under my creative thinking for a story: Professor Utonium's nephew, Kenny, visits Townsville and he is a rambunctious little troublemaker. The girls, even Buttercup did not like their cousin's behavior, so their father sends him to military school. Eventually, Buttercup fell in love with the all-boy military school instead. Until she sees the school is far more challenging due to the school prevent her to use her super powers. During the last day of military school, Buttercup faced the last challenge by crossing a log and avoid her falling to a pit of spoiled tartar sauce and fish heads. Buttercup did not use her superpowers but her strategic skills. The Commandant awards Buttercup a special medal "For Satisfactory Completion of the Gifted Level".
Another Buttercup episode will be another sequel to "Buttercrush" which the episode "Aspirations" served as a true sequel. There were few hints/references to Buttercup's crush on Ace, leader of the GangGreen Gang. I loved the episode. Anyway, getting to my fanmade story for Buttercup. The GangGreen Gang is convicted of armed robbery of the Mayor's private bank. Buttercup convinced that Ace and his gang have been framed, so the Powerpuff Girls investigate the incident and discover that a rival gang (similar to GangGreen Gang) were the culprits due to their hatred on Ace and the others. After beating and sending them to jail, the police released the GangGreen Gang. The Powerpuff Girls told them that they will continue on catching them for any kind of juvenile crimes they committed. Ace calmly agreed with a smile and thanks not only the girls but Buttercup for standing up for the truth and sticking to his and the gang's convictions, and gives Buttercup a kiss on cheek...which made Buttercup blushing yet smiling. Despite being an criminal and almost killing her sisters (from "Buttercrush"), Buttercup forgives Ace.
And that concludes my positive description and understanding on the Emerald Crusader. 💚💚💚

Okay I’ll be honest. I don’t hate Moral Decay.
I USE to hate Moral Decay, like a LOT. I thought Buttercup’s actions were extremely out of character and were only an excuse to see her get pummeled.
But then… I started watching Ed Edd n Eddy… and that’s when I realized… Greed can takeover anybody.
Like Professor in A Very Special Blossom. He REALLY wanted those golf clubs and was willing to neglect Bubbles’ and Buttercup’s questions as to how Blossom got them. So it’s not just Buttercup.
And it was her first time, this small child, receiving money. Of course it’s a big deal for her. And for some, like Blossom and Bubbles, it’s not as big of a deal. All children are different.
And let’s not forget that Buttercup felt really bad about hurting Bubbles… but then that overtaking greed comes back into play when she realizes that getting more of Bubbles’ teeth will get her more money.
But she’s still in there, her good side. She’s realizes that she can get teeth from bad guys, people she’s actually SUPPOSE to beat up. She flies to hotline, hoping there will be more crimes, so she doesn’t instantly go after anybody. Again, her goodness is still there. But then that greed returns and she grows impatient.
Although, she does ONLY go after bad guys, so at least she was seeing with some form of justice.
Greed makes us do horrible things, but it doesn’t automatically make us a bad person.
And afterward, Buttercup never did anything like this again. She’s clearly sorry for what she’s done, even if she won’t admit it.

  • @DarkEcoMaiden

I personally hate how they have Buttercup knocking out people's teeth thinking "She's knocking out villains' teeth, so the fans won't care." NO YOU STUPID SONS OF BITCHES!!! Just because they're bad guys doesn't mean it's ok for Buttercup to mercilessly knock their teeth out. And of course, it shows Buttercup as the one person in the show who hides behind what comes with her job. Nobody condones cops shooting civilians and then hiding behind the "it comes with the job" excuse. But that's what Buttercup is doing in this episode. Why should Buttercup be able to hide behind her job? And of course, having her get her teeth knocked out for what she did doesn't work either. Why couldn't you have the Professor finding out what Buttercup was doing and talk to her about it and punish her in a parental way? It's cliché, sure, but it's the only way to make something like this work. NOT COOL

The Power Puff Girls have worked with the villains in the past, especially in that episode where that male superhero was faking crimes just to be a glory hound.
Bubbles and Blossom could have worked out with the villains but not to the point where they actually watched their sister get brutally beat. Maybe, the villains and the sisters could have had an intervention for Buttercup, at least they would have been shown to care for her and not so fucking spiteful. Of course, who would want to see that since it's "boring" and over "preachy." I am also surprised that Buttercup didn't call out anyone for their hypocrisy.

    • @Umbra_Magna777
      @Umbra_Magna777  4 года назад +1

Mistakes is one thing, but being physically abusive is another. I didn’t mind some of her other episodes too much. In “Buttercrush”, for example, Buttercup runs away from home and hangs out with Ace, which is a mistake, but at least she never actually hurt anyone. The most she really did was tie sandbags to a cat’s feet, which wasn’t really nice but didn’t actually hurt the cat. Even “Paste Makes Waste” did a good job of this. It showed how Buttercup succumbed to peer pressure and teased Elmer even though she knew it was wrong. But at least she never seriously hurt him, and they actually ended up becoming friends in the end. “Moral Decay” just takes things too far. I mean, who beats up their sisters for money?

@@Umbra_Magna777 Every other tooth fairy plot with a greedy antagonist usually uses an appropriate character, like Eddy from Ed, Edd 'n Eddy or Angelica from Rugrats. You know, re-watching this episode again (reluctantly of course), I think Blossom and Bubbles weren't even trying to teach Buttercup a lesson. They just simply wanted to savor the enjoyment of seeing their sister getting pummeled and her teeth knocked out. If they really wanted to teach her a lesson, they would've had her see the errors of her greedy ways and what it's done to her. I mean Buttercup can be a bit of a bitch at times, but she's able to see what she's become, even if it takes a while for her to admit it. Instead, they just wanted to see her get her teeth knocked out for the enjoyment. Their smug expressions after she took that beating were pretty questionable to say the least. Everyone in this episode is so out-of-character that it may as well could've went that way. That actually makes this episode worse when you think about it.

I agree with you completely. Buttercup isn't perfect by any means, but at least she acknowledges her flaws and tries to make them right. Blossom and Bubbles, on the other hand, have flaws that are even more frustrating because they won't try to correct them and even go so far as to justify them at times. Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't bring a bag of popcorn to munch on as they watched their sister get beaten.

Umbra Magna I think Buttercup acknowledges her flaws because the characters in the episode (mostly Blossom) force her to do it even when she hasn’t done anything wrong. Makes Zen to Me, Not So Awesome Blossom, etc. just to name a few episodes. Bubbles everyone just forgives her and leaves it at that. Blossom is just too goody two shoes and little miss perfect to be portrayed as in the wrong. I really don’t see what makes Buttercup’s cases so different. Buttercup could be a little moody but she still has a good heart and deeply cares about her home town and her family.

I feel like Buttercup turn into Greed, a sin that love for money. I don't mean to defend this episode, it is so mean-spirited that Bubbles and Blossom were heartless in this one. Kids wanted to have thing which use money and than realise that teeth make money. So, I though why Buttercup wanted money to buy something, though her goal is not defined.
However, better have teeth than money, because you need them for eating and feel your body. It is even worst in Teen Titans Go, that the team, except Raven, rip off teeth to gain money, to the point they will not eat again. (They are supposed to be TEENS!)
I hate the protrayal of others characteres than Buttercup. I feel so bad for her...

Moral Decay didn’t sit well with me either as a child. When I was younger, my elder sister would always say she’s Blossom, I’m Buttercup, and our baby sister was Bubbles. I didn’t want to be Buttercup, not because I didn’t like her, but because 1. Bubbles was my favorite when I was younger and I wanted to be her, and 2. I thought Buttercup was treated pretty unfairly in the series, especially in Moral Decay, so I didn’t want to be her cause there were a lot of moments in the show where she was treated unfairly/was kind of a jerk. However, I don’t think Down n Dirty was a terrible episode. I like the part where Blossom and Bubbles bathe Buttercup and wear gas masks while doing so.

Well actually in the season 6 episode Pee-Pee G's there is sort of a moment like that between Buttercup and the Professor where the Professor basically explains,in his own way, that wetting the bed is a perfectly common thing to do as a child. Sure the moment is meant to be more comedic than Professor's prior talks with the girls, but him saying "Aren’t you glad we had this talk" as well as his inner monolog of him repeating "I can do this"(which I think is basically him trying to explain it in a way that won't embarass his daughter) I feel like It can be considered a sweet moment in it's own way.
Sure the episode is most definitely *not* the best and the moment is more on the comedy side of things, but I think it does show the Professor genuinely does care a lot about Buttercup like he does Blossom and Bubbles.

Now that I’m older, I realize that yes the punishment was too far, even though I hated what Buttercup did to everyone in this episode, I didn’t like how her family didn’t care that she was beaten up, it made so uncomfortable when I first watched it that I never want to watch this episode ever again! 😰😡😢

MAKOTO KAISER I know that really made me mad. She seemed like a happy-go-lucky kid. The professor put some thought into the others names. Just based on the first letter of their names. Buttercup might get her more "aggressive side," just because of a disconnection from a supportive family. When Buttercup moves out of the house, she should make the right decision to move in with sensei. She was much happier with him than with her sisters. In "Cover Up," it just shows how much Blossom unfavors her sister and how Bubbles doesn't understand Buttercup's affection to her blanket, but they both don't understand her affection due to her personality. You know the reacuring "Tough, never cry, not a baby, doesn't sleep with toys," stereotype. Buttercup has been traumatized. #PoorButtecup

  • @HackiePuffs

I agree that the Professor should have been more caring of Buttercup but remember the episode Shut The Pup Up? Or to be exact the part where Bubbles and Buttercup were fighting over who gets the prize? Notice how he intervened after Bubbles called Buttercup a bully not after Buttercup called Bubbles a baby. Also when he was telling both of them to think before they speak notice how he put his hand on Buttercups shoulders almost as if in a comforting way and how he was looking at Bubbles the entire time. He could've been sticking up for her then.

Good point! I hadn't thought about that one. But that's more left to interpretation than anything else. Most of the time with Blossom and Bubbles, he has shown kindness to them outright.

    Stealing 2,000 dollar golf clubs

Brutally injuring people who either barely did actual crimes or did crimes only worthy of lesser punishments

Just rewatched this episode and thought it was dreadful, so immediately had to look up if anyone saw what I meant, and I'm glad you recognise the poor characterisation. Buttercup is my favourite, and honestly, before this video I hadn't considered the fact that she is often poorly treated. A lot of people would say Blossom gets poor episodes (I can see the argument for this), but yeah, I honestly can't remember many moments of just her with the Professor.
Buttercup was doing a really messed up thing in this episode and deserved punishment, but I completely agree that letting her essentially get jumped was bad. It wouldn't have been so bad if the villains found a way to orchestrate it, but the fact that her sisters were in on it???
Honestly, yeah the tooth fairy aspect isn't explained, and Buttercup doesn't even have much of a reason to like money, it just felt so forced in the start of the episode.

  • @rhondahoward8025

This is maybe 2 years too late, but Buttercup has "middle child syndrome". Even her name wasn't as thought out as her sisters. Professor admitted that it was just a name that also began with a B. Now it's not as overt as Buttercup being the _Meg_ of the series, but she is certainly treated rougher. And why? Is it because she's "the toughest fighter"? A tomboy? If so, that's a horrible reason. It's basically saying her personality causes her to be treated this way. At the end of the day, she's still just a little girl.
Also, you are so right about hypocrisy. Buttercup gets punished for beating up people and knocking their teeth out yet wasn't there an episode where Bubbles did the same thing (including a poor dog) and not only did she NOT get a punishment, she got praise for being "hardcore"?
It's always iffy when they try to make Buttercup the antagonist of the episode. All Chalked Up is even worse with her behavior, making her stomp on Bubbles' chalk for horrendously petty reasons. She even had a smirk on her face as Bubbles cried in a way I've never heard her cry before. Like, realistic crying.
I wasn't okay with her having to give up her blanket either in Cover Up. How come she has to get rid of her blanket, yet Bubbles gets to keep Octi? Once again, SHE'S A FIVE YEAR OLD GIRL. FIVE YEAR OLDS HAVE COMFORT OBJECTS.
And it always seems like they cut out the _talking_ part with Buttercup. How hard would it have been for Blossom to talk some sense into Buttercup for the teeth thing? But no, it was almost like they WANTED to see her get beaten up. Same with the bath. Why not have the Professor talk with her about the importance of hygiene? No? Just kick your own daughter out of the house? Okay then!

There is another reboot of the powerpuff girls with the original voice actors (except for the professor) and Craig McKrackin (unsure of spelling). I have read some of the summary and once again Bubbles is the hero and Buttercup is the villain.
I would want in the first episode of the newest reboot would be Buttercup getting her special powers pretty equal to Blossom and Bubbles. I also want a more Rowdyruff Boys to since they also have some family drama where Boomer gets yelled at by Brick and unlike Bubbles he doesn’t have the same support as Bubbles since Boomer is a villain and he doesn’t have anyone to take care of him, and Butch who is also very aggressive but not talkative and he acts a bit off compared to his brothers. He could possibly be in the same situation as Buttercup since they are both the middle kids.
I feel like their needs to be a movie about Buttercup and how she is treated and once she finally speaks out and proves her worth, the Professor apologizes to her and maybe give an excuse that he thought her sisters needed it more or something and admits to being wrong and they could finally share heart warming moment.
As for the reboot, I don’t know how often I will watch it with Bubbles getting most of the love while Buttercup’s solo moments are about her being an antagonist without giving her something really special.
