So refreshing to revisit this wonderful corner of RUclips and discover yet more delightful features developed for one of my favourite packages - beautifully and intelligently presented. Many thanks.
FYI, looks like they are adding this into the timeline too! "Support for changing audio format for timeline clips from the inspector." coming in the latest beta
Indeed... However at the moment it seems that as of Public Beta 6 this just refers to being able to access the Clip Attributes directly from the Inspector. You still can't directly change a stereo clip to mono without doing this. Still a useful addition though.
Hey Chris, I just watched like 5 or 6 of your tutorials in a row and they are so clear and insightful… thank you so much. It’s really interesting because I of course remember you from the official Blackmagic training videos but I find these tutorials on your personal channel somehow better, and more efficient. Subscribed with the bell :)
I did use the SRT method by exporting the SRT I had done, bringing it into Word, and correcting the errors. Saved the SRT with the corrections and brought it into an empty SRT track. Had to be careful to ensure that it started with the start of speaking. It is much easier for me to correct in Word. It would be quite handy , for a really long clip, to be able to actually correct withing the transcript with its handy search and replace tool. I am probably missing a bunch of simpler ways to do this and am hoping you and other smart people can help. again, thank you.
Glad to hear it worked... sorta. I think the workflow needs a little more consideration. We do need a way to work with timeline subtitles much more efficiently - search and replace of commonly mis-transcribed words would be wonderful, kinda like we have in FCP's search/replace for title text. Maybe the timeline mode in the transcription window is the beginning of this with more to come.... after all, we're still very much in the early beta cycle for Resolve 19. Don't forget the DaVinci Resolve 19 Beta Forum: forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewforum.php?f=38
I would say that you are, reassuringly, much more wryly funny than you first appeared in those BMD training videos. (Maybe it was just those sets. So . . . sanitary.) Because of all the stuff that can (and does) go sideways, I believe you really can't properly be editing video without a sense of humor - which, to me, says more about your experience than any resume could. Anyway, I so appreciate your calm and thorough walks through, and I will continue to imagine you cracking a smile off-camera.
Indeed! Yes, I am he and he is me (here we are together, goo goo g'joob). A little older than in the BMD videos and probably none the wiser... but glad you found me! Actually, I've always worked freelance, but I'm lucky Blackmagic Design is still one of my clients 😉
hey @@Chris.Roberts quick question, wht did you not have the chance to do a cut page training video? Ok is has more features now so perhaps more relevant, but I just wondered. And nice to see you still doing your thing lad. Good work.
You mean for the BMD training pages??? No secret, we just didn't get around to it 😉 FWIW I did make a couple of Cut page videos for this channel: ruclips.net/video/iqrHMq1EpL0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/SSxpBOH1MY8/видео.html Thanks for the support 👍🏻
Hahaha! Yes. Funny what excites us as editors! I actually gave up my full sized keyboard a few years back (easier access to the fn key during Zoom classes was the reason). Maybe I should dust it off again.... 🤔
Hi Chris, please correct me if I am wrong, but acc. to BMD DR19 New Features Guide you can use bus to trigure the ducking process on the target path (althought I haven't tested yet), so basically you could have multiple voice tracks in one bus, but only one sound truck that could be affected.
Beautifully and expertly done, Chris. And the humour! (Actually went downstairs after the "Ducker" bit to tell my wife about it…!) That deadpan tone is spot on. (Looking forward to your sharing your findings. I'm already on the beta and about to edit a 2-person Zoom call using the transcription enhancements.) P.S. Suggestion: add a "Super Thanks" button above. :-)
Hahaha! I hope your wife appreciated the humour too! Hope the edit goes smoothly... It's always a bit of an unknown with beta software, particularly early betas... I had a couple of issues editing this episode but nothing that caused a huge problem with transcription. Cheers!
The new features PDF from Blackmagic Design says that you can but I’ve not discovered a way to achieve this. It may be that it’s not fully implemented yet in these early public beta versions. Targeting busses would make the Ducker so much more flexible.
Hi. It's only in Resolve 19 and it's a track effect... In the Edit page, click the track header in the timeline first and it'll be listed in the Inspector. Or you can access it directly in the Mixer in the Fairlight page. It's available in both the free and Studio versions. HTH.
Really appreciate the My Projects warning and advice to duplicate, thank you. Having decided to follow you into the Cut page for editing per your videos, but not actually experimented with it yet, I wonder if the new features in 19 will lessen your reliance on the Cut page. Eg, the Trim Edit and other functions being added to the Edit page? In your experience with Blackmagic Design and Resolve do you see the Cut page as a lasting component in Resolve, or does the direction seem to be to continue boosting the Edit page until the Cut page becomes redundant and dropped in version 21±?
The cut page is the newer one. With the new beta it seems to be developing further and further as an alternative (replacement) for the MulticamClip. Point of Interest is also an interesting tool for delivering multi camera live setups from the cut page as quickly as possible.
@@jensgeumann7564 Exactly what I needed to know! Very kind of you to reply and it gives me confidence to go ahead and and get involved with the Cut page. Good tip on the multicam "angle" too. 🤣 Thank you!
I agree with @jensgeumann7564 - the Cut page seems to be developing in new and unforeseen ways. 🤔 I'm not sure I'd use the new Replay features but, honestly, what do I know? 🤣
What a FANTASTIC question! I never thought of doing this, but YES! You can use the transcript in timeline mode to get the edited transcript, together with the timeline's timecode... Export subtitle and import that SRT into the timeline. Genius! Thank you! 🙏🏻
It would be quite useful to have a tutorial on how to edit your transcript and use that as a basis for a subtitle. Other variations would be good if possible. You do a great job!
what have they done to video clips audio track? When I move the clip the audio just stays there and it doesn't delete or cut if I perform those actions on the video, now I feel that I am doing twice the cuts and drags and deletes that I was doing on 18?
As far as I'm aware, nothing has changed about this. Have you got Linked Selection turned off for the timeline? (Chain button next to the Snapping button in the timeline toolbar.) HTH!
@@Chris.Roberts Ah not sure. I just installed the upgrade to 19 and jumped straight into a new edit, and now it's like they unhinged an audio track from it's parent video clip. I'll check out what you said though. Thanks for the reply!
Why doesn't it automaticly change project files like all other majorversions. You can't run to versions of Davinci at the same time on the same computer.
True. But as you may be working on shared project libraries - either on a network or in the Cloud - it’s important to remember others might be working on older versions.
Nice intro to new features but a question: Does this apply to Resolve or Studio? They are not the same and I wish creators would recognize that. I have watched so many only to get half way through and figure out the video was specific to functions in Studio and not found in Resolve. What a waste of time!

Features features features… more experimental integrated. Hope the learning Departement is doing major changes. Such desaster, what happens last time special in yours teaching lessons does never happen again. Davinci Resolve is no more compatible to European laws and it makes no sense to censor concerns. Check in front please that you have space and time enough to teach basics of use. In audio the Blackmagic certificate is since yours training no more accepted because there is no time to care education where the previous training does have a failure.
