Tracey Helton: I hope that did not sound rude. Those are strong words, that I can relate to easily. The dope had me homeless in Van DTES during the late 90s. Much love from Canada.
Thanks for the updates Tracey. I recall seeing the documentary you were in years ago when I was a active user myself. Its nice to see you pulled yourself out of that situation and stayed clean. I'm proud of you
Hi Tracey, The black tar heroin documentary was one of the most influential documentaries that I have ever seen. I have watched it more than once and all the characters and their stories had a profound impact. I just wanted to say that I am sad to hear that a couple of people did not make it but I am so happy to see you are doing so well and that you are a true inspiration. I hope to be able to find your book in Holland.
I have no idea how people manage to get their lives on track again after long periods of drug use. Well done to Tracey for being able to turn it absolutely 180 and not only get clean, but do so well. It's so hard.
I just watched the black tar heroin documentary.I am not an addict and i dont do any drugs. But in my life if I am ever offered to do heroin, it will be you and that documentary to stop me from doing it. Thank you mam and hope you have a good life ahead.
Oh Tracey... thank you for being you and everything you have done! I first heard about you 4 days ago on the podcast Dopey and immediately looked up the documentary you were in. Turns out, I had already watched it. Twice. I couldn't believe it was you! This July I celebrated 4 years clean off heroin and opiates, among many other drugs, and had been looking for a new book to read. Since I heard you on Dopey, I have watched everything I can find about you, followed you on Instagram and ordered a copy of your book. Thanks for your story and for writing about your recovery!!! Much Love, Amanda in Washington State
marcus flippen I haven’t seen Lenny for years. Jennifer Oreos girlfriend died a long time ago. It’s a sad story and was potentially preventable if she would have received care for her asthma in time
i remember watching the HBO doc years ago and figured you were all dead. i didnt know many ppl who got and stayed clean. your message is reaching so many people you dont even know about.
Its great to know that there is hope of getting off this drug and fixing your life. I've known of a couple of stories of people that weren't so lucky. Tho, there was this one guy I knew who got off it and like you went back to school and now works on computers, makes good money too. I wonder what ever happened to Jake and Jessica. They both seemed to me the most out of control but, I can understand why when you learn of their background.
ugh i hate that feeling when all those emotions come back to you... its so sad. you think about your family and stuff. i cant wait to get the book tho :)
I saw you're documentory of 1996 or something. you know as a 15 year old teen with no addition in his geenes . I have done alot of drugs. but that doesent mean I'm a bad person. like the steongest shit i did was cocaine. I quit because my mom caught me and started crying. I have a heart and I quit for her. and although back in the day you might have been a heroine user I'm sure you were still a good person at heart. much love
watched the documentary just yesterday, its crazy how you can see the lives back then, being the same today, just small differences.. Its freaky. People do much worse shit to get that slam, i know i do.... Disgusting what we become...
I can't wait to get your book, just that piece was beautiful. I was hoping it was a recovery book as opposed to your time using drugs. I'm sure it will be amazing.
I'm not surprised Tracey made it out the other side. She was too introspective and intelligent for a substance no matter how addictive to win. Given the obvious deleterious consequences.
Hey Tracey, fellow addict here, you have been a big inspiration for me, after watching black tar I was convinced that I would never kick the habit but then I seen your video updates and it gave me hope, so thank you :).. I've only been off the gear for under 2 months, and I keep going through cycles of using then staying clean. I am worried that this clean period is false like all the others and that I will end up back on the needle again. Can you give me some advice on how to stay clean and replace the cravings? my doctor tells me I shouldn't be getting cravings due to the suboxone I'm on but I still get them everyday and I know from experience that this clean period may be completely false.. Also what is your opinion on smoking weed as a replacement for the cravings?
I think cannabis can be useful from a harm reduction perspective. I think heroin leaves a huge hole in your life. It takes awhile to figure out what to fill it with.
Tracy I just can't explain how much I care, and how much I apriciate your strong will. Love from Morocco.
هججور هجرة thank you!
I lost yrs to my addiction while the world had moved on - gulp, it feels to real. THANX
Mike D that is really how it felt and still kinda feels

@traceyh415 do you discuss the documentary in the book? I am going to start reading it in the next few days!
A little. I mostly talk about my recovery
