- Removing this toxic #asbestos tile was not bad at all! Very few tiles broke, and most of the floor peeled up in sheets!
we disposed of it at our local transfer station and it's out of the house forever! Normally we would have just gone right over the asbestos as that is the safest way to do it, but there are potentially salvageable hardwoods underneath!
#diy floor removal #asbestos floor tile
i removed most of mine, but wet them all down first before bagging them-cuts down on dust.
Yes we started with wetting them down too, but they were coming up so easy- in big sheets- so we stopped watering it down until we got to the underlayment.
You’ve got more balls than me. In Aus only licensed removalists can carry out these works
Haha it really wasn’t bad at all.
Unfortunately only time can tell if they were safe "enough" 🫣
We’ll let you know in 20-50 years.
There should really be more awareness on vermiculite insulation. That stuff is dusty and I’m much more concerned with that. Why there is so much awareness on tiles but barely anything on insulation is troubling.
they looked so cool and are probably near impossible to replace. I would just seal them
They were definitely in a rougher shape than they looked in the video! But we do agree they did look pretty cool!
Hello thanks for video! I’m doing a similar job at a house, where would I dispose of asbestos containing tiles?? Landfill?
Yes, but not all landfills will take it. We had to go to a bigger one that will take asbestos.
Do you have a video showing your precaution steps for this?
Hi Noelle, yes we do. If you click on the icon in the bottom right corner of the short, it will take you to the full video. I hope that helps!
Is this an example of non-friable floor tiling?
I’m looking for examples of friable vs non-friable tiling.
Hi, so this asbestos tile “could” break under hand pressure, but it didn’t crumble or fray during removal. I would say it was still friable, but we were lucky that it was coming up so easily.
I think friable vs non friable is really determined on a case by case basis.
Because the boxing was done in the room, the asbestos dust generated during the demo will be both inside and outside the box.
There wasn’t any dust created removing the tile…… there was however plenty of dust created from the vermiculite (which is way worse than what’s in this video)
😊🌲❤️
No black mastic underneath nice
Nothing was done right in this house- we were glad there was no mastic underneath. It was a breeze to take up.
Great job! I think I'd be too scared to do this!
Did you have to scrape up the paper part that was underneath?
Oh goodness that is a whole other story! We scraped it, we wet it down, we sanded it, we used a wallpaper steamer… nothing really worked.
As soon as we’re done with the sheetrock- we’re moving back to the kitchen floor! Stay tuned! 😉
@@TheLiFeInPines OH WOW! OK! I'm sorry it's been so hard! I watched "LexiDIY" rip her old stuff up (her's didn't have asbestos, thankfully), but she had to REALLY wet it using dishwashing liquid and water and something else. Look her up here on RUclips if you wanna see how her's went and maybe use something she did!
I'm REALLY SO SORRY it's been so hard! Y'all are doing great though!
@@rebekah3483 I will do that! Thank you for mentioning her channel! 🥰
@@rebekah3483 and thank you! We make a good team and are usually able to lift each other up when one is having a hard time! We appreciate your kind words!
@@TheLiFeInPines of course! You can really tell that from your videos!
What kind of respirators required?
Here is the link to the one we used.
Provides protection against lead asbestos exposure. Hope this helps!

Oh that’s a dream come true when the tiles come up that easily! 😅 Good job!
They really did come up perfectly!
Is it really that serious?
Evidently it is!
No black adhesive ?
It was weird. More like a paper that was stuck down.
If you're removing asbestos tile in a basement and you have wood paneling throughout. Should that be removed as well?
I wouldn’t think that it would need to be removed. The walls could probably use a good clean/wipe down after the job was done.
Our process of removing the tile didn’t create any dust at all though. Hope this helps! 👍🏼
Double bag always
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I wish you could come and remove my asbestos floors 😢
Is going over them an option for you? We did that at our home, and would’ve done that here, except there were beautiful maple hardwoods under the asbestos here.
@@TheLiFeInPines It’s concrete floor under my asbestos tiles. Most of my asbestos tiles are broken so I’m very nervous about how I can get them removed.
Do you want to get down to the concrete or what kind of floor do you want to put down?
I think going over them with wood, tile or laminate, etc. is the best option, if you can.
Waste of money if they were not disturbed, you wont die from them
There were beautiful hardwoods underneath that we saved. ☺️
That’s easy tile
Try hard one and let me know 😂😂😂😂
It WAS so easy…… 😂 we still hope to never have to do it again though! 😆
Have a great day!🌲
There is so much dangerously wrong in this video 😢
We followed the MDH’s guidelines to a T. Please let us know what is wrong and/or dangerous! 😊
Those masks don't look ffp3, full face covering required, head not covered, also the adhesive often contains asbestos..braver than me folks :)

Maybe take a few more precautions. I think it's fair to say you can't take enough steps to be safe.
We followed the MDH guidelines, which I’m now seeing they’ve since removed from their website. They now recommend to have asbestos removed professionally. Go figure.
@@TheLiFeInPines that's scary. I live in Ireland and for as long as I can remember asbestos is only allowed to be removed professionally given that it only takes a minute exposure to it's fibres to trigger problems down the line. I think its a common rule across Europe as we have seen the consequences of it not being done correctly cause so many deaths.
