I may be no game developer but judging by how many bugs get fixed after a game's release this sounds very accurate
I may not be a game dev but i'm kinda good at breaking them and was around for the start of the speedrunning community near the release of Ghostrunner and wow did we find a lot of bugs (a bunch of them got fixed, others didn't, some devs were actually on the speedrunning discord server and actively asking us to report stuff and passing it on to the rest of the team to fix it if needed)

Real developer here: This is not exclusive to games. Any publicly available software ever released gets hit with this. It's just that video game bugs are more funny and memeable.

Did not run at 900 fps consistently, only supported 499hz out of 500hz on my ultra wide monitor, saw frame drops going to as low as 899 fps, extremely disappointed

@@EdKolis even after downloading two 3190TIs and running them in SusLI, the game still wont run consistently at 901.2356fps on my machine when I fry an egg on the power supply, really poorly made game

Took me 3 years of bug fixing for a 6 year project. I’d say 80% overall of the work was big fixing.
If you imagine putting 1000 hours a year into a project, 6000 hours total, 4500 hours were probably bug fixing. 500 hours of level editing, probably 500 more on characters and this is a 2.5D game.

@@Pped it's not. You're just a kid and you don't know anything about game dev. They got rushed by people online and they didn't have enough time to fix a lot of stuff. If people kept their mouths shut, they would've taken some more time to work on the game before releasing it.

I was looking at bug reports from an experimental branch of a game today and I was surprised by how many people were willing to spend hours testing stuff, recording multiple videos, and typing essays about mostly unnoticeable bugs
If you credit them as a developer, you'll get flood of new people who are willing to essentially test your game
I’m one of these people, I like knowing I’ve helped fix something in a game I like to play.
Also I have some sympathy, as a game dev myself.
Don't you love those nerds? This level of dedication and attention to detail is why we _can_ have nice things.
@@CZpersi You can have nice things, but not quickly. I participated in a closed beta recently, and the sheer volume of bugs we found meant the release to early access got delayed. Whoops.

Essentially, any Program/Software/Product
Just the scale of creating the game is really hard, figuring out how to do level design, character models, animations, inventory systems, saving your game, combat systems, mounts, multiplayer, and procedural generation is a crazy amount and that isn't even considering, enemies, weapons, items, abilities, loot. All while having a game that is oprimized. Just a lot of unknowns.
shoot even learning how to do a good sprite or an good code is probably the hardest thing that exsists in the world lol

After playing the game, 0.069 seconds in I realized my character had no left thumb on level 420 while using the special sword that gets unlocked for spending 2000 hours in the game. Game is broken

I call it "client foresight".
theres really only one explaination: a secret gang of time travellers goes and finds every game in existance and bug tests it to the ultimate extreme, then returns immediately after the release and posts all the bugs they found
or he checked on it an hour after launch which meant theses guys found bugs within the first minute after launch thus the exasperation in his voice
Think of it like this: if you playtested a single feature for 100 hours, and 500 people interact with that feature for 1 hour, they have cumulatively done 5x the amount of playtesting you did
cumulatively lmao. That messed me up for a good minute.
And they will find 5x the number of bugs you did.

The "wrong hair colour in a certain level" sounds like a one of this bizarre glitches, you get when writing a dangling paointer. Might be a serious thing. Generally, if software behaves "haunted", you are likely writing memory you shouldn't - or misinterpreting a invalid pointer as something else.
When playing in Wine on a modded nightly build of ObscureLinuxDistro with experimental kernel version 6.1.734pre-alpha, the main menu image is offset to the left by 3 pixels, thereby rendering the game aesthetically unplayable. Have refunded and organised a widespread review bomb on all media via 4chan

there is a bug where if you enter level 13 while using a mod known as "game crashes on level 13", the game will crash.
On level 45 when you open the toilet seat, put a radio in the toilet, look at a tree and switch a sword from slot 2 to slot 6 the toilet will spawn a smoke effect with the effect id of 52, and if you punch a metal rod after breaking a window, it will spawn effect id 502, so it activates god mode wich only gets disabled when you restart the game, so on level 53 when you open the vault door and put a barrel in the middle, close the door, you can jump on the stuck barrel giving you huge height, where you can trigger a loading zone to level 67, where you can activate effect id 67 by jumping on an 83 year old grandpa's wheelchair, pausing, unpausing, wich gives you 20 gold coins, so you can get gold coins before you ate meant to, so you can skip 15 levels and buy an iron pickaxe for 20 gold, wich also activates effect id 163 wich sends you to level 49 and you can use the pickaxe to mine air and make it solid, and with that you can you can you can see big chungus face reveal if you aim at exactly 69.172 on the Y coordinate anywhere, bullets can go through walls, and by jumping 0.23534 seconds before firing the weapon and press e after 0.46282342 after firing the weapon you will ride the bullet wich reveals 12.83% of the bee movie script where you can touch a wheel of fortune before you are meant to unlock it, meaning you can acess a room with a golden toilet and a brown chicken eating grass, so you can do another very simple gltich, wich is done by grabbing the chicken and feeding it cold grass, then firing a bullet with the 0.2mm pistol at the middle of its torso hitbox it will color the golden toilet purple because youre'r'rre ip adress hss more than 5 digits in it so it will reveal dream's face in about 2.789 seconds if press w 3 times in 2.5 seconds, so & aim 35.699869 degrees X, 4.200069 degrees Y and zoom in that glitches the camera into the coordinate 0 0 0 and if you unzoom and jump the game pushes you up to the ground behind the boss activating trigger wich saves you 4.62% of your hp so you can survive sans final attack ₩*hªț ãm ı ďøįńğ* (last lava igloo) zombie attack fire tornado edgeless cube filled with 1 terabyte of nes roms chicken toilet with brown toilet seat explodes giving you 637340 velocity so now you can travel in parrelal universes

The best way to test your game is to hire people who LOVE to break games. My friend is really good at breaking games...he has no skill in making or fixing games, but he is amazing at breaking them. He's also the one that got me into the Spiffing Brit...so he also really likes watching other people break games.
If you enjoy people breaking games kind of content, you should give “Let’s Game it Out” a try! He’s infamous for breaking all the games he plays because he just pushes them to extreme limits
You could also watch Backseat Streams. He has a lot of videos where he just breaks games

The best glitches are ones you have to go out of your way to do and actually provide some extra entertainment, like sequence breaking.

It doesn't matter how hard you work, speedrunners are going to be there ACTIVELY looking for bugs, bumping into every wall and corner, hitting menu while droppings specific items and trying to walk behind cutscenes.
Reading Minecraft Update Notes and seeing Bugfixes like on this video makes me wonder how do people find out about those very niche bugs
Happens to me all the time, release the update and 20 minutes later I get messages saying “Sadjhj, there’s a bug” or “There’s multiple bugs, can you fix them now Sadjhj”. It’s kind of hard to find the bugs that are non obvious while testing.

Game's unoptimized, doesn't run on my raspberry pi.
I remember playing New World when it came out and saw a guy with something like 236 hours played on steam even though the game had been out for about that long.

At least those people provide detailed explanations about how to replicate the bugs. Most people just share screenshots or short clips about how the game glitches out or they just say they got stuck or glitched, but you have no clue how that happened.

as someone who finds a ton of glitches in games with friends we all do it on accident and its a great feeling because we have only found the good ones that benefit us except for one horrifying one that almost crashed the game

This is a good thing because you now have customer feedback and customer interactions telling you how to improve. That is the best thing you can have for software, people who care enough about your product to offer you advice and how to improve, because it's ultimately going to help them, but if they decide to stop using the produc,t then it would at least be helping someone else.
