This great opening sums up the whole James Bond spirit: infiltration, stealth, gadgets, sabotage, tuxedo, pretty girl in room, fight with the henchman, creative finisher and black humor
This opening scene of Goldfinger is one of the best examples why Sean Connery has been and still is the best James Bond -actor. He is so cool and tough, like Bond should be.
I was 15 yo when I first saw Dr No and then all the others. I tried to copy his grace and style as I grew up. Naturally I had no chance, But Sean you sure made me better than I was, I nailed some of it. The Vodka Martini was the biggest success:))))))
Once the white dinner jacket is on....mission accomplished. "At least he won't be using HEROIN FLAVOURED BANANAS to finance his revolutions." 🤣 But no, he never saw that assassin reflected in his eyeball. This is why we watch James Bond, so that we might believe *anything can happen*. And...sometimes, it does.
RIP Sean. You started it all and cemented James Bond in the modern world. This was the first James Bond movie I saw as a child and I was immediately captivated by how cool and suave you were on screen. I wanted to grow up to be just like James Bond!!! I fell a little short of the mark, I'm afraid.
A far cry from the Daniel Duckface Craig. Connery had the suave, Moore had the refinement and humour, Lazenby had it all, Dalton had his moments, Broanan had a migraine (or looked like it) - Daniel Craig has nothing at all. A troubled boy in tailored suits, surrounded by mostly unattractive woman and Norman Bates’ mom in the shape of retirement home nurse, Julie Dench.
My brother met Sean Connery and Tojo when they were filming at Southend Airport during the making of this movie. He got their autographs and said that Mr Connery was charming. There is only one Bond and Sean Connery was Bond!
It was so exciting when a new James Bond movie came out in the early days with Sean Connery. I haven't felt that kind of anticipation for a movie ever since.
Great opening sequence. My favorite Bond movie. Proud to say I was born the same year as the first Bond film in 1962. Connery was at his peak as Bond with this movie. Nobody did it better.
One of the most overlooked villains in the whole series starts and ends with this short scene, herion flavoured bananas...to finance revolutions, stopping the problem at the source of supply, only a 007 move...🧠
Connery is just so effortless but iconic. It goes under the radar his Scot’s accent as Bond . But in my opinion, he epitomised the Bond that Fleming created
In many people!’s opinion, the very best of all Bonds. ‘Goldfinger’ was the first James Bond movie I ever saw and that was in 1965 at Graumann’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Iv’ve been a fan ever since. I remember that at the end of the credits it said “James Bond will be back in ‘Thunderball’ “ and the audience started applauding, myself included.
Taking off the wetsuit and.. so cool we get the tux. But the thing that makes him "Bond" is he remembered to bring the flower along and place it in the lapel. :)
I cannot believe you got the entire opening scene here, but left off the song!! The segue from "positively Shocking" to the opening note of the song is incredible.
Goldfinger was the first James Bond movie I ever saw. I was a sophomore in high school, or therabouts.I saw it during a Saturday matinee, and sat through it twice, back in the days when you good do that. The climactic fight with Oddjob is still as thrilling as it was back then. I never was so happy to see a villain get his as when Bond electrocuted him. Anybody ever notice that Bond dispatches both bad guys at the beginning and end by electrocution?
Well, apart from the incredibly successful novels on which the initial films were based. And as an aside, Kennedy watched FRWL the day before he was assassinated.
Metanoia The novels didn’t become widely popular until after the films became popular, and most people at the time didn’t keep up with the president’s reading list.
I think that´s the way it was meant to work. The rope is on the ground, obviously it follows after the heavy arrow, to which it is attached. All that in "movie reality" of course ; ) I am sure you don´t think that rope would come from gun barrell? ; )
At 1:04 when rope pulls up tight against the grappling hook on the rock, it looks like sequence was actually a taught rope being let loose and the film was reversed, probably because it was easier to start with the hook set tight and release the rope than it would be to start with the rope loose and pull it up trying to get the hook to catch tight on the first attempt.
One of the things I like about how he acts here; he's not totally cold and calm. He's on edge and aware when he sets the bomb, and is a bit thrown off when the guy goes for the gun. He only acts cool when he's totally in control of a situation.
He sure could make it work, He gave 'The' James Bond portrayal that 'he' could be Killed at any point in his Movies, and.. 'That' was a Great One to point out.... Loved 007 all my life.. most people my Age had the Early 60's 007 as Our 'Star Wars' for going to the Movies... Of Course I didn't have Star Wars to compare to back then !
I always feel like badass Bond when I look at my steinhart ocean one vintage red watch on a Bond nato strap. It is not Rolex Submariner 6538 but close enough.
I'm going to really miss this guy my favorite bond and goldfinger is my favorite bond movie from him. Rip Sean Connery you are going to be really missed 😥😔 i'm crying a little bit.
The 1st bond I ever saw. It was on ITV when I was a child. Can still remember the excitement of the car, the laser and OddJob's hat. Of course as a teenager it Honor Blackman who provided the excitement
This great opening sums up the whole James Bond spirit: infiltration, stealth, gadgets, sabotage, tuxedo, pretty girl in room, fight with the henchman, creative finisher and black humor
All performed by our dearly departed Sean :'(
The 'boutonnière' is an unforgettable detail as well. Only Bond would regard this as essential to the mission.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
it's the definitive bond film for sure...it has everything
And soundtracks by master composer John Barry.
Such an awesome opening. The best part is after he knocks out the guard and the iconic music kicks in. It really feels like bond at that point.
You’re just angry Denmark is better than Sweden
And then the buttonhole.
The guard cannot see his left.
Classic Bond. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
This opening scene of Goldfinger is one of the best examples why Sean Connery has been and still is the best James Bond -actor. He is so cool and tough, like Bond should be.
Connery was definitely the best... but almost all the others were great in their own right. It’s no insult to say they only came close.
Love how he adjusts his jacket at the bottom before walking out. Only Sean had that catlike grace. None of the other Bonds can match him.
@WHOSE TRUth *warm-weather dinner jacket

Fun to find a fellow vtuber enjoyer watching Bond!
"Shocking.. .positively shocking. " Even electrical engineers are impressed.
Everything in this movie is just so god damn brilliant.
Sean Connery moved like a cat and is a perfectionist. This is the archetypal James Bond.

Most creative opening. Love the way Connery moves with his cat like grace and agility. Wish the world could go back to these days.
Ex football/soccer player, knew how to move smoothly. ; )
The World can't...but YOU can!
@GregZO6 Sounds like a Bond title from the Brosnan era. Just insert Bond instead of "you" 🤣

John Barry was so on point!!
Connery is just so effortless but iconic. It goes under the radar his Scot’s accent as Bond . But in my opinion, he epitomised the Bond that Fleming created
The funny thing was that Fleming had serios doubts at first about Sean, because he was Scottish.

And you notice he wheels the WOMAN to shield the attack blow! Yes, a gentleman...but ruthless and brutally effective.

Drysuit, not wetsuit. A wetsuit would have made his tux soaking wet.
The man to play bond!!
It's definitely one of the best JB scenes and lines ever.
I don't remember that opening. One of fave Bond movies. Thx 4 showing
As fantastic as Goldfinger IS, I give the slight edge to From Russia with Love. Bond at his BEST...
For me, from Russia with Love is the best Bond film ever made.
@@12348477also chalk that opinion up to Connery, Dalton and Craig themselves. And I’m also in that camp. Easily Connery’s best 007 movie for me.

Well now I know where Indiana Jones got his dinner suit for the opening scene in Temple of Doom.
Maria Fox
Like father, like son. Docta Jones always dressed well.
And all he gave me was this stupid Mao suit! Well, I like the Giants cap...
Casablanca came before all of that
Maria Fox Indiana Jones was inspired by James Bond that's why Sean Connery was Indiana Jones father
Sameer Hafeez I heard about that. It’s also why they have the car chases.
Maria Fox well thanks for replying
