My father was born in 1933. All throughout this movie I tried to imagine what life was like for my grandparents who would have been around the ages of the main characters. How very different it was then!
They are all gone now, Dad and his parents of course. I was very struck by the passing of time when I read your comment.

Thank you! Love these old movies. I've never been brought closer to how it must feel to lose a baby than Myrna Loy brought me in that scene. Just close enough to know I can't think about it, can't go there. Only women who have been there can know that. She is fantastic, such a pro. I'll watch her in anything.

I love this movie and how it shows how life can really knock us around, but two people continue to honor their vows, never give up on each other, and forgive always.
That is what makes a successful marriage.

Those two came through with the support of one superior friend and one good friend. I hope that people like Bill in real life find a special person to love and appreciate them, to help them form a sweet and faithful life of their own. (Instead of using all their resources and life to keep other peoples’ lives together, being rejected in every way in their own needs and wants.) Myrna Loy is always splendid! … also one of my favorites, Jean Dixon, who played Molly in My Man Godfrey and Martha Pryor in She Married Her Boss. Thank you for sharing this movie!

This match was part of the Sesquicentennial, held at the Municipal Stadium in Philadelphia on September 23, 1926. After ten rounds fought in the pouring rain, Tunney defeated Dempsey to claim the title of world’s heavy-weight champion. Although the match did not end in a knockout, Tunney is said to have been “a complete master, from first bell to last. He out-boxed and he out-fought Dempsey at every turn." And no....I was not there. Great film...thank you so much for archiving and posting!

Love is about the other person, about his or her good, not about how you feel. This becomes a true love story--because it becomes sacrificial, on the husband's part as well as the lawyer's. A portrait of marriage, very well done!

Interesting. Surely, it wasn't easy to stay till the end, because so many matters traveled from bad to worse in assorted attitudes of a variety of different folks. Yes, it was very worthwhile to see the ending climatic change of some attitudes regarding even more than the primary two. As anyone watches this film, try keeping an open mind for what to do and what not to do. Thank GOD for every lesson during our lives for necessary improvements.

Life should be more like the silver screen: Myrna Loy and Warner Baxter had 5 divorces between them.
I knew a real-life couple who couldn't have children, which the husband was fine with at the time they married, but later he decided he did want children of his own, so he left her.

Welcome to Hollywood, Clark Gable played the same role twice, 20 years apart but with younger actresses 2nd time 'round ('30's co-star Myrna Loy thinks he died @ 60 because he insisted on doing his own stunts with wild horses in the desert on Misfits), Cary Grant refused to work with Audrey Hepburn twice before agreeing to Charade & then retired because they wanted him to continue in romantic leads, he, Charlie Chaplin, Gable & Pierre Trudeau all became old fathers with young wives, didn't Pacino & DeNiro just become fathers?
