I rebuilt a 18” set just like this. I bought new tweeters for the horns, bought new goldwood 18” drivers, sanded and painted the cabinets, mounted all the new drivers, had one bad cross over. So bought two new crossovers, installed them and I had a bad ass set of speakers. I had $200 total invested in them. Sold them for $1500.

I've seen many of your previous speaker destruction videos. It's so nice to see you actually repairing a pair of speakers, especially a nice pair of vintage speakers such as these. I would like to see you make more videos like this one.
BTW, as you were testing out these speakers after the repair, I thought it was funny that you briefly played what I call the "speaker death" song that killed off all your other speakers in your speaker destruction videos. Anyway, nice job repairing these speakers. I bet they sound great in person.

I just got a nice pair of 1980's Yamahas, which apparently have the same woofers and horns, for free. They belonged to a church, which 20 years ago had bought a whole new sound system and stored the old one in the basement. They're just a bit unsightly, because they're covered with this white fake fur stuff, which in the basement has come into contact with some rusty tools, which of course have left their marks. Technically the speakers are perfect, the sound is good, but I will be needing a new set of cables to connect them with the Peavey M 4000 amp that came with them. I don't know if the Peavey still works, but it does power up, so I may be getting some sound out of it soon.

For that hole in the woofer, apply clear packing tape to the back and lay the paper over the hole, then apply a small white ("Elmer's") glue to the front, only in the area of the tear in the paper, avoiding getting it anywhere else. The white glue and the clear packing tape will give you a repair that is invisible from the front. Duct tape is too heavy. Be very careful removing the duct tape to peel it off slowly and cleanly - without grabbing too much of the paper from the back. The white Yamaha cones are what actually make these speakers most distinctive.
