- One of the first times I heard Emmett perform was in a small house concert with maybe 15 people in attendance. He sang "I Want It That Way" and we were blown away with his awesome arrangement and style. We can't sing this man's praises enough and are so thankful he's part of the band (and basically family).

Emmett took a pop song that only young teenage girls would claim and made it his. His unique voice coupled with the superb harmonies prove that the Petersens are bound by no particular genre. I for one long for the songs that have built you but regarding this song....well done.

To the Petersen's and all of their fans and followers. Every time they post a video, we are witnessing the making of a great group. In my opinion, they are much better then many of the "Big Stars". They have the love of God and the wonderful gift that God gave them each. I pray for them that they will continue to grow and flourish. Gods ways are mysterious at times, back in January, who would have ever thought that during this pandemic, the Petersen family would rise up and become such a huge part of so many lives, giving us the hope and peace of great music presented to us by the most wonderful loving family. Perfect beauty! Beautiful people, faces, personalities, and talent and musicality. What a package!

Emmett has something money can't buy. Like all the really big stars he has a unique voice and knows how to impress himself on a song. In other words to own it. Beautiful but generic voices aren't necessarily star power. You would never confuse Elvis, Dylan, Merle Haggard, George Jones for example with anyone else. They are also people who don't just cover a song but can own it. Willy and Merrell took Pancho and Lefty from Emmy Lou's record and owned it in one take. Emmett Franz can do that. Thanks for featuring him.

Agreed!!! Emmett is for sure one of the most talented musicians in the bluegrass world (if not in the music industry as a whole), and we are so honored to have him with our family. He's also a stellar person which makes it even more special. :)

@MP 81,16,18 CATS I'm sure it was properly licensed since it was released by major record companies so he was well compensated. Merle Haggard's story is that they were one song short for the album he was doing with Willie. He had knocked off for the night and went to sleep/passed out in his RV there at Willie's place. I believe it was the recording engineer who brought Emmylou's record to Willie and played him the song which he had never heard but decided on the spot to record it. So he went out and woke Merle up and he staggered in and they recorded it. By the time he woke up the next day the finished album had already been sent to NY. So in their case no they don't ask first. It's all in a somewhere in You-Tube interview Merle gave. Amazing the things you come across here. I believe Emmy Lou was an actual friend of Towns and they may have talked about it.
I didn't know what to think when I first saw what song you were covering, but I love it! Y'all cannot miss. Emmett is the man! Petersens, you really know how to properly grass the heck out of a song and make it as cool as the other side of the pillow.
I can only imagine what you learn deconstructing, reimagining and playing so many songs. And we get to enjoy the results 💛
