  • Time to replace my XC90 II D5 Brake Rotors and Pads. Decided to upgrade to T8 size rotors at the same time, so front was upgraded from 345mm to 366mm, while the rear was upgraded from 320mm to 340mm.
    Here are the parts I used (This is not a sponsored video, I paid for everything):
    FCP Euro KIT-31400569CKT5 kit which includes Rotors, Pads and Clips
    Volvo 36012672, left front caliper bracket for 366mm rotor
    Volvo 36012673, right front caliper bracket for 366mm rotor
    Volvo 36010239, rear front caliper bracket for 340mm rotor, 2 required

    Bleeding brakes solo, I hook the vacuum up to the bleeder on the caliper and pull the old fluid that direction. Still in short bursts and checking to keep the reservoir topped up. Start the whole process by vacuuming all the old dirty brake fluid out of the reservoir and filling with fresh.
    Vacuum at the reservoir is probably ideal for pulling out any possible air in the system, but it also can introduce air at the caliper if you have any leaks in the attached hoses.

      @@vica153 I just use the old method. Seems to be ok. Have driven about a few hundred kms since the brake change. No issues so far.

    Looks great! Did you noticed braking difference between smaller rotors to larger rotors? I'm thinking of doing the same thing, beside FCP Euro is 30 drives for me...

    • @eyhpoon
      @eyhpoon  2 месяца назад

      It is not a lot of difference, but the bigger rotors give a big more progressive braking. Shipping from the States from us unfortunately is very expensive.

      @@rontan8954 Nothing wrong with the standard size rotors and pads for normal driving in my opinion. Just need regular replacements. I used to have Volvo dealer service my car and if I am not mistaken, the rotors would got replaced around 25000 to 40000kms. I will see how the Zimmermann goes this time.

      @@eyhpoon I'm at 73,000 km and the rotors look fine. That's crazy that they would replace rotors 40,000kms! Volvo charges way too much to replace both rotors/pads.

    Did you have to 'manually' fully retract the parking brake to fit thicker new pads?

    • @eyhpoon
      @eyhpoon  3 месяца назад

      @@vica153 Yes, for the rear calipers, first need to retract the parking brake by taking the motor off and use a socket to turn the shaft (clockwise) at the back of the caliper, then use a caliper tool to push the piston back all the way.

    I have the same car as yours. I want to replace the rocker cover gasket. Would you please show me some tips, where did you order the genuine Volvo parts in Down Under?

    • @eyhpoon
      @eyhpoon  2 месяца назад

      I have never tried replacing the valve cover myself. I remember around 50000km, the dealer replaced the entire cover. It depends on what I need, I do quite a bit of research around for what I need and pricing. For example, I bought the oil kit/fluid kit/Brake kit from FCP in USA (although not genuine), shipping is very expensive but I think its important to get the right spec of products in these cases. The genuine Volvo tie rods however (plus a set of genuine rim, used but very new), genuine cabin filters and wiper blades, I bought them from auto supplies in China because that gives me a best price including shipping cost (because there is sea freight available, but buying from Europe/USA I have to used expensive services like UPS/Fedex/DHL). You can also try local Volvo dealer to order parts, but normally not the cheapest option. Brake fluid and Coolant, I just use the local product which meet the specs.

      Are you referring the bolts to secure the caliper brackets to the hub? I cannot remember the size now, but I do use a socket with a long bar. I think to tighten it, the spec was 200Nm which requires quite a bit of force.
