BOBF would have worked as a one-off in the style of Werewolf by Night - a ~45 minute story about Boba escaping the Sarlacc, joining the Tusken Raiders and getting back at the Pykes which leads into where we meet him in The Mandalorian
I hated werewolf by night tbh. But yea they could have made bobf so much better. Its clear they had no idea what to do with him and were just capitalizing off nostalgia.
I never liked tfa and I still don’t but i was on that hype train to the last Jedi watching Star Wars theory videos on his theories and than ruin midson released his abomination of a film in 2017…
I agree 100%. After TFA the internet was BOOMING with theory video's about the way it would go. And after the release dissecting scene by scene to find clues. Then TLJ happened....
If I have learned anything over the last ten years with Star Wars, it is to be grateful for great times and forget the disappointing times, and we've had a fair amount of both
I appreciate that. It’s really easy for me because I want to love everything. Sometimes I try to convince myself to like something, but if I don’t like it I’m not gonna lie to myself. If someone truly wants everything to be great, then all criticism must be constructive. That’s my philosophy I guess
@@thegoldman25 No offense, but it’s not close at all. The reason people started disliking the Disney era is the last Jedi. And is still the main reason to this day. Regardless of what people individually think of the movie personally, it’s negative impact on the franchise is something people do agree on The second reason (whatever it may be) is a very distant second
Agreed. The Last Jedi created a divide between fans as large as the Grand Canyon. It remains the source of so much controversy and hatred in the fandom. The Book of Boba upset people or left them apathetic, but didn't turn fans against each other in the same way. When people want to rag on Disney Star Wars, The Last Jedi is the first target while Book of Boba might not even get a brief cameo in the discussion.
Boba Fett is my favorite Disney plus show as of know. I understand the complaints it gets but in character development and plot it’s better than all the show combined other than Andor and it has some goated battles and fight scenes
I probably should have explained my “impact” rating system better. A 10 is really good, a 5 is neutral/no impact, 1 is terrible for the franchise. I hope that helps!
@@thegoldman25 I think you're thinking about the film, much of the time, in isolation. TLJ had some 'potentially interesting' plot threads, that weren't explored. But it largely didn't fit well in the larger arc of the Skywalker saga. And I was literally getting angry at how dumb some of the characters were while I was watching it in theaters on opening night, before any reviews started coming out. It was VERY bad in the larger context of the series. It's impact score should have been 1/10, regardless of your opinion of it. You even acknowledged that it had a "nuclear" negative impact on the series standing. It can't really get much worse than that. TFA was also a fine enough movie, I guess. I enjoyed it well enough when it came out, despite its style being markedly different than what came before it. However, basically acting like the New Republic wasn't a thing, and not setting up a "grander" more compelling 3 movie story arc was a missed opportunity. It didn't really move the needle much.
The big problem with TFA is that its not Star Wars anymore. The scrolling credits were the most Star Wars thing there. And then, suddenly we have an entire different style, a super dark setting with torture, mass murder, blood on screen, but suddenly Marvel jokes, world building is a mess, pacing is a mess, not feeling of anticipation, climax, etc. And everything is because of JJ: so the movie us not a Star Wars movie, is a JJ movie. Is a Disney movie. You can literally SEE the causes of some plot points being totally outside of the movie, and starting in production rooms, while you are watching the movie. Its corporate as f***, is souless, clueless of what a good movie needs (spoiler: a personal espiritual question or drive). They thought people wanted lightsabers, when they only wanted mothers, childs, fathers, friends, bonds. This is probably the worst thing ever created in Disney era, not because of quality (a lot of worse things have been made, i.e. Book of Boba Gett, RoSkywalker, Obi-Wan), but because of cimenting what axes do Star Wars is rooted on: personal axes or Corporate axes. Things made by humans or by I.A. Archetypes, or Cliches. Self-respecting, or self-ironic-referecing. Old 70s Golden age rythm, or Marvel epilectic humour and editting. This movie has every ingridient that will come in later bad productions of Star Wars, just not as evident.
That is probably part of it, but once TLJ came out, I started to analyze it a bit more and didn't like what I found. TFA is good in isolation, but it's not in isolation, its part one of a trilogy. JJ took full advantage of the mind boggling relay writing system, he wrote in a way that makes it easy for himself, but caused problems for future writers. His movie is full of promises for others to keep, full of exiting hooks that others have to provide something satisfying for and he also made the movie "A New Hope" mark II, which is a strategy the future writers can't use and doing so also provides them with less meat than a more original story would have. He even did some sabotage for future writers, like having Rey defeat Kylo Ren was good enough for his movie, but it zeroes out the possibility of portraying him as a threat for Rey in future movies.
I’ll never forget seeing “ The Last Jedi “ in theaters and I went by myself . I remember sitting there and was thinking “ what’s happening “ “Is there a hidden message “ “ is it my fault for being here and being a starwars fans “ . I left the movie more confused about what I just watched rather than trying to recap the whole movie because I was lucky enough to see another starwars film in theatre’s. Since I was a kid , I’ve seen every film since ep 1 going forward . Leaving the theater after watching the last Jedi was a very different experience. Weeks later I found out I wasn’t the only one that felt this way and you’re right , it divided the fan base and all the fans that grew up loving starwars, had starwars themed birthday parties, and collected all The merch and video games , are called bigots now for not liking modern audience starwars
Some fans said what you said about TESB, literally a star wars magazine stopped publishing issues because they couldn't get behind TESB, They said it divided the fan base. Some Star wars fans have just always done this with every movie since Empire. So I kind of think the sequel hate is overblown and just a repeat of what fans said about Empire, Jedi and then the prequels. And as Time goes by most fans end up enjoying and appreciating the films. Like why can't people just like whatever star wars movies and shows they like, and why are some people obsessed on the things they hate more than enjoying the things they like? I'm not saying that's what you do, but I don't understand the people that do that?
@@HeirOfBabylon Trust me, had Andor gotten a larger audience, they’d do it!! Sadly, the general audience prefer simple “turn off your brain” type of movies/shows (just look at Marvel). Extra fun fact. Originally, RotJ was gonna have the same style as ESB. But George Lucas wanted a more action roller coaster like Indiana Jones (cuz it worked for RotLA).
Always appreciate your videos Gold Man. Thank you for encouraging others to look at things more objectively and be more descriptive in their opinions. While I may not agree on some of the individual takes you had on some of the shows/movies, I'd say the final scoring is pretty accurate to where I see things currently. Keep up the amazing content man. I wish I had a friend like you to discuss things more in depth like you do ahah.
Disney has a 50% sucess rate. The problem is the ones they fail (sequels, kenobi, bobba) are way more crucial to fans than the ones they got right (Rogue one, andor, mando)
I personally was furious they made ahsoka live action, completely flipped off the rebels fans by making the world and characters feel completely different to rebels.
Really appreciate this take. Star wars as a franchise, was never free of poor material before disney took over, but the takeover has certainly took its fans from being ardent/passionate to apathetic.
Speaking of The Bad Batch, you completely misunderstood the show! This group was introduced to us as mercenaries who accepted dangerous missions. That's how Cody introduced them to us. So it’s perfectly normal that we see them accepting missions in their series! And through their missions, The Bad Batch see how different people adapt to the arrival of the Empire! It's just you who misunderstood the series! We even see them thinking about their future on the series!
Well I "understand" the show I think, but it's obvious that there's a lot of filler. The only interesting and good episodes (really good though) are the ones on the start and towards the end of both seasons imo.
@@cash5512 How can you know which episodes are filler if we don't have enough data or enough details to confirm which episode(s) are filler/cannon? You don't know, maybe these episodes that you say are "filler" could be important later? This is why I find it stupid to say who there are "filler" episodes if we don't have enough information.
@@SuperPlacido1 It's only 1 season that hasn't aired yet and I doubt that they will pick up "plot" points of random irrelevant side mission episode #7.
Force Awakens will probably always be my favorite movie under the Disney banner solely because Force Awakens was the first Star Wars movie I got to see in theaters. You can’t beat that feeling
@@Bobspineable Nah. Star Wars was George Lucas's vision. Its all just corporate money grabbing and fan fiction now. We'll never even have his third trilogy on screen thanks to Disney. Total reckless idiots.
1:22 Yes, it sets up the characters well. Essentially, the Force Awakens was a pretty good pilot episode for the new Disney Star Wars series. Abrams has a track record of making shows that set really compelling mysteries, then leaving before he has to actually answer them. But take away the New Hope plot structure, and what was the story? What was Rey's Story in the Force Awakens? What character driven decisions does she make that affect the story?
It makes me so happy to finally see someone aknowledge the impact the force awakens had at the time, It was the first star wars movie I saw in a cinema and months after it came out me and my friends were still talking about the theories we had and what we thought was gonna happen next
TFA holds a special place to me. I know it has major problems but like prequel fans, I can’t bring myself to dislike it. This was the very first movie event I’ve ever been to. When that theme played and the opening crawl began, everyone in my theater stood up and cheered and I was flabbergasted. I was like “We can do this in the ? We can be loud and obnoxious and no one will bat an eye?”
@@casualfanatic4217 honestly I don't think the Force Awakens has major issues at all, people complain it's a lot similar to a New Hope and it is, but is that a issue depends on the person, the big thing with TFA was to get Star Wars to feel like Star Wars again, to recapture that magic and it really did. I had people cheer in all 3 sequel trilogy films when I saw them in theater.
You are mistaken the hype of the 40+ years fandom and the thirst for a good Star Wars movie with The Forces Awakens being a good Star Wars movie (it failed in so many ways plus it created lots of misery boxes that were never had a payoff! It was the first blow in a trilogy designed to destroy the franchise... Yes, it did make money because we thought we were getting a great return to the former glorious saga (but JJ fooled us all!)
What tips it over the edge into Very Bad territory for me is the fact that this company is supposed to be some of the best storytellers in the world, with the most resources, and they’re handling the biggest IP in the world. How can they not put out successful content? How does the book of boba fett or mando season 3 or even Rise of Skywalker happen?? It’s extreme incompetence
I can see how much work you do in the background to make these banger Star Wars discourse and analysis videos, I'm really excited about this one and will watch the whole thing on my way to work. Kudos to you good sir!
Mando should've ended after season 2. I honestly thought this after the season came out, cause there was no way you were gonna top that. But it was confirmed for me after book of boba fett and mando season 3
Since you didn't bring it up, I want to talk about the high republic. I've only read a few books from the era but I really enjoyed them. The impact of the era is silent but still impactful. It shows the fandom that Disney was not only willing to branch out away from the films, but that they could make their own unique era. While the sub-fanbase for the era is rather niche than the TV shows. With the High Republic being shown in Jedi Survivor and the Acolyte show coming soon, I could see more people becoming huge fans of the High Republic soon.
So did you like the images created by Lucasfilm for the new charecters of the High Republic or the new charecters themselves like Geode, the solid rock co-pilot?
It was nice hearing your thoughts on Disney era Star Wars, to be honest I don’t like much of any of it. Sure I can nitpick the few good things , but if you disagree that’s also fine, at least you enjoy something like this no matter what other’s think. Respect.
that's totally fair. I really appreciate you're attitude about this. It's not for you and that's unfortunate, but you don't try and ruin it for others. Thank you for being a good fan
@@YuhlemanIncorporated”Ruining Luke” consisted of giving him an actual character arc, and doesn’t prop up Rey. It props up the Jedi. Ruining Anakin? So… Anakin sacrificing himself for his son isn’t important anymore? Isn’t impactful? You’re blind.
Force awakens should have been a solid launch to an amazing trilogy. Instead, it’s a disappointing reminder of lost potential. The biggest issue with Rebels is that it’s a kids show. As a middle aged dude, I can only watch highlights of the best parts. Can’t watch a full episode cause it’s for kids. Season 3 of Mando was so disappointing because they setup a fantastic character arc for Dinn. Instead, they completely backtracked and it felt like a cartoon. Andor is clearly 10/10 and best thing since original trilogy, at least for older fans.
@@thegoldman25 totally agree clone wars season 7 S tier. Ahsoka is such a head scratcher. It tried to be “adult” Rebels, but it kind of was a compromise that didn’t satisfy. Ep 5 is one of the best Star Wars put to film…ever. Baylon was an interesting character, but he didn’t go anywhere. And it still felt cartoony and weightless by the end.
You lost me when you said you were "excited about the Rey movie"!!?? Really!! I was the guy in the theater giving both fingers to the screen yelling "F_ck you Rey"!!!!😈
My problem with Disney Star Wars is that it feels like I am eating garbage, then, every few years, I get handed the most pristine platter of food and I think “oh my god, they finally learned how to properly cook” and I ask for another plate and they hand me garbage again.
I just love the emotional whiplash of “It should come as no surprise that I give Andor a 10/10” *Spongebob narrator voice* 1 minute later “I HATE the Mandalorian S3” I mean I don’t disagree but damn 😂
As ever great to hear your takes even if I don't agree they are well presented, I even find the things you do like in the sequels infectious and it makes me want to watch them again.
It is incredibly disappointing that The Bad Batch is not getting more seasons. As we saw with TCW and Rebels, these animated shows usually don't get good UNTIL the 3rd season. TBB in my opinion, has been more consistently good in its first two seasons than TCW and Rebels were in their first two seasons, and I think if we got 4 or 5 seasons it could be truly great.
The Blunder of Boba Fett was the building of a coffin. Obi-Wan’s Catastrophe was the final nail in that proverbial coffin. And S3 of The Mad Delirium was the dirt dumped on that coffin. Honestly, Mando S3 was so terrible that I’ve not yet (and may never) finish it.
@@thegoldman25 “Andor has the best character development of the entire franchise” Is why people don’t like Andor. Their fanbase is the equivalent to Tool fans

@@thegoldman25 haha, no problem man. The Star Wars ones r pretty dope tho (like you said) and worth a play even if you aren’t a gamer, just if you are a SW fan.
When you mentioned GotG Holiday special and said "i would love if Star Wars had something like that". They do - it is literally called Holiday special :D
I honnestly love Solo and it is my favorite of the disney movies. It honestly does all i wan't a star wars movie to do. Have a fun adventure with entertaining characters. My favorite part of star wars is all the underworld stuff and this movie gave me what I wanted. I can understand why people don't like it as much as i do but after going over every movie it was my favorite.
Interesting analysis. I also think one thing I'll give attention to is some of the books and comics, some of which have honestly been pretty good. I'm currently reading Shadow of the Sith, and that book does a good bit to elaborate on elements from the sequels, in particular Rise of Skywalker, and I suggest checking it out. It doesn't fix the issues and decisions made with the movies, but it does try to remedy them. Rise of Kylo Ren also does a lot of heavy lifting and goes into the relationship between Luke and Ben that quite honestly should've been in the sequels. The new Thrawn books are also great, unsurprising given Timothy Zahn came back to read them. I don't have any real interest in the High Republic, but I actually think it's a cool idea to have a sort of subseries focused on a particular era. Ultimately though, Disney's reign to me has been a mixed bag. The sequels left a lot of people disappointed, and the shows tend to be hit and miss. That said, it's not impossible to fix things. Yeah, there's a lot that's a mess, but this isn't a DCEU situation where the best solution is to hit the reset button. I know there are many people who would find that ideal, but in the case of Star Wars, I honestly think that'll just create more problems in the long run. It's better to find a way to fix what you have, and pave a new path forward.
Pretty good vid overall and while I would personally knock obi wan down a point and bad batch maybe up a point, everything else seemed pretty spot on for how I feel about Disney Star Wars.
a random thing rebels did that permanently impacted star wars lore that i rly dislike: accelerated aging of clones continuing into adulthood and into old age so they die of old age relatively quickly, I feel it really limits the potential of having clone characters in the OT era and beyond and basically adds an unnecessary time limit for when in the time like you can explore certain characters. It also doesn't really make sense as it implies that if the clone wars dragged on for a few more years or decades, the clones would really quickly be past their prime, but the way it limits characters is the biggest problem.
I'm overall really happy for this decade and the biggest problem that I have come from the Disney corporation for imposing deadlines, especially TROS which if it had been better executed the entirety of the Dinsey era would be looked in better eyes. I also will be forever grateful for Andor and the Jedi videogames saga. Really excited for the third.
I am going to disagree with the masses and say that overall the Disney era of Star Wars has been pretty good. I think it has been just as good as when George Lucas had full control. There have been lots of excellent things to come from it like Andor, The Mandalorian, Rebels, The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and Tales of the Jedi. There has been some bad stuff as well in Solo, Resistance, Book of Boba Fett, but besides those three I have positive feelings for every other Disney Star Wars product. Some might be middle of the pack and just barely like, but still pretty good. I give it like a 7.5 overall and while not great, I probably give the George Lucas era a 7.1 based of my same calculations.
Do you still feel the same after Acolyte and after we have learned about declining sales for merchandise, third-party media like books, and increasing audience apathy?
I am 26 and never watched Star Wars like at all. But 2 weeks ago I started with a new hope and now I’ve watched all their live action media. Am I a Star Wars fan? I’d say so. Would most Star Wars fans consider me a fan? Probably not. That being said here’s my opinion. OT is amazing. Way better than I possibly could have expected. Even knowing most of the plot it was still very enjoyable. PT is my favorite trilogy. Is it better than ot? Nah but it is gorgeous. Absolutely stunning visually, fight choreography was so much better and revenge of the sith is my #1 movie out of the 11 live action films. Now the sequel trilogy? Visually stunning, effects were top tier, sound and score were great, characters could have been dished out better but the characters themselves were not bad. But the story? Terrible. A kid could have done better. What I disliked the most was that TFA takes place after all the interesting stuff already happened. Did the story have to revolve around Luke? No but I’d like to at least be told his story along with han and leia, I was hoping to see more of their actual story. We went from Rotj to Luke already restarted the Jedi order… and had it burned down, han and leia had a kid, Luke and Mara had a whole relationship we NEVER SAW. The republic made a come back andddd it lasted for 10 years. Empire is gone but 10 years later now empire is back??? But it’s not the empire it’s “the first order” 😉 Hans son gets trained in Jedi arts and ends up being a sith apprentice ? Luke didn’t even try to fix things bro just ran away… Han leaves leia. Leia has been doing the exact same thing her ENTIRE life. Except for when she trained as a JEDI. There’s more but all of this is what we would have loved to see. But nah they said fuck showing actual sequels let’s reboot it and claim that everything that is unbelievably stupid happened off screen. And that’s why I think the sequels suck. Mando? 10/10 I love it. Highly recommend. Bobf? Ehh. Obi wan? Very nice. Could’ve been better but it’s the best Disney could do lol. Andor? Amazing. Very good. Would recommend. Ahsoka? Mid but enjoyable. Visually beautiful. Story sucked. Now that said I think Disney buying lucasfilm was a good choice. How can anybody think different? Oh you don’t like it? So im assuming you would rather just have no Star Wars content? Edit. Solo was enjoyable. Probably would have been better as a series where he epidically goes on smuggling adventures. Rogue one?? Amazing. Knowing they were gonna die had me biting my nails.
To this day I still do not understand what people enjoy about Luke's character in The Last Jedi. It completely contradicts his character arc in the original trilogy. Why the hell would Luke even consider killing his own nephew when he tried to get Darth Vadar, the enforcer of the Emperor himself, to come back to the light after knowing full well all the attrocities he has committed. There was a way to write Luke into that situation without him attempting to take away the thing he values most his family and friends. Not to mention the total insanity of Luke not even knowing that Han died in the previous movie. The idea of cutting yourself off from the force is a very contrived concept that Disney Star Wars just loves to throw into their projects and I utterly despise it. Luke should have felt the death of his best friend and THAT is what should have caused him to come out of hiding. In the Force Awakens when Anakin's Lightsaber flew past Kylo Ren towards Rey it should have went to Luke's hand not Reys. The sequel trilogy is a goddamn embarrasement to the franchise, Lucasfilm's legacy, and filmmaking in general. It should be cited as the #1 example of what you shouldn't do to continue a franchise. If you are a fan of the sequels. Good for you im glad someone can enjoy them. However as a fan of the old movies I couldnt feel anymore aliented or betrayed by Disney Star Wars.
I sure do appreciate and enjoy your perspective and passion for Star Wars- thanks for all you do. (Ps I couldn't agree more - Rebels is so good- and yet- so many SW fans that I know- still haven't seen it. I think the Disney XD start / season 1 does have a bit to do with that) Keep up the great work.
Disney held something so wonderful and precious in it's hands. How they managed to dismantle, what the og trilogy managed to build, will be discussed for a long long time by fans and industry insiders.
Your video has a very fascinating viewpoint and I appreciate it. But I honestly think that Rogue one had better story and character development than The Force Awakens. I also think it, along with Andor, are the only projects from Disney Star Wars that had something to say (and somewhat of an artists mark) as opposed to the hollow feeling corporate message of the other Disney Star Wars projects
🙋♂ I am definitely that person that got into Star Wars from watching Mandalorian, and watched/rewatched all the movies/shows. The only thing that I've missed out on from doing that is the appreciation for the cameos that happened in Season 2 of Mandalorian... :(
It's insane to think about how far we've come since the contract was signed, and I only get more and more exhausted every time someone says things that're only gonna be repeated for years to come. Me personally, I simply love everything Star Wars, even if the project I'm consuming is one I would consider bad. But I understand that just saying that is enough for the fandom to consider me a criminal. But those are also the same people who never wash their hands after using the bathroom. Despite all the flaws that Disney Star Wars has, I still really like a lot of what we were given. I still remember all the emotions I felt while watching Rise of Skywalker opening weekend and having the most satisfied feeling I felt in a long time, and even almost 4 years later I still love that movie regardless of all the problems it has. It's generally heartbreaking seeing what the fandom has turned into now. It's impossible to go anywhere without someone scolding you for liking x because of y. It's just exhausting to be a Star Wars fan, and even calling myself a Star Wars fan fills me with shame nowadays.
I’m definitely subscribed, no worries. I also disagree with a lot of your points generally so take that as a compliment of me still tuning in; I still appreciate your opinions. Echo chambers are bad! :)
The low box office revenue of Solo is mainly because it came out after The Last jedi. People were soooo furious (and many still are) with that movie and in order to get disney to listen people boycotted Solo because the only thing disney cares about is money. I think if Rouge One hade been released after The last jedi it would have gotten very similar box office revenue.
As a black geek fan since 1979.... that people LOVE The Last Jedi inspite of what it did to Finn and John Boyega is why I barely even want to be a Star Wars fan anymore. Star Wars was never this blatant about disregarding characters of color... outside of their portrayal of Lando in SOLO. Any love close to what they did to Finn will always get a thumbs down and the person saying it kept at arms length. :/ I'm glad you spared a moment at all tho for how Finn was treated... but in Rise of Skywalker they at least tried to give him something to actively do.
Coming from someone who was excited by Lucas selling Lucasfilm so others would have the chance to tell Star Wars stories (since Lucas seemed content to sit on the property, which, as owner, is his right), my interest in Star Wars has never been lower. It started out with some promise, had some definite high points (I did like parts of the sequel trilogy--though not entirely as a whole--and I'm one of the few who really loves Solo), but now I feel like I'm watching the shows out of brand loyalty, hoping for something great again. It's just been a downward slide of quality since the first season of The Mandolorian, and it just seems like nobody working for Lucasfilm nowadays cares enough about the property to put out a quality product. Book of Boba Fett took a cool character loaded with mystery and made him painfully uninteresting, Obi-Wan looked cheap and wasted the potential behind Ewan returning to the role, Andor took the dullest character from Rogue One and stretched that dullness out over 12 episodes, and now I'm slogging through Ahsoka. Every character is flat, has no personality, and I just don't care. There's just no passion being put into the series, and it shows.
Get rid of Kathleen, and select good authors to write better stories.. it WILL be better.. but the disappointing sequels are a mess.. and killed any hype.
I didn’t get into Star Wars until 2015, but I’ve been loving it so far. I don’t think I’d be as into it as I am now if there wasn’t new content. And we all know George wasn’t gonna make anything else after TCW finished.
I feel like the sequels are the perfect representation of Star Wars under disneys reign, it started out well and it never got better, I’m not gonna say what happens next but it’s the same thing with like the mandoverse it started out great but now we are where we are, even though Ashoka was good in my opinion, of course the only thing that has stayed wonderful is the animated series such as clone wars 7 tales of Jedi and bad batch
I think the franchise is currently in a good place because there is something for every fan or every era’s fan to look forward to. Fans who wanna explore a completely new era have the James Mangold film and Acolyte to look forward to. Sequel triology fans have the Rey movie (plus the upcoming Dave filoni film is leading up to first order. Plus the mandoverse fans have Skeleton crew and new seasons of Mando and possibly Ahsoka. Like I’m more excited for Ahsoka s2 than season 1. Plus tbb s3 and Andor s2 is coming so fans have that to look forward too. I agree that tales of the Jedi has a lot of potential if it uses it. Honestly I’m more excited for the future of franchise and I think it’s because of all good things which have come before
These reviews seem extremely biased in sequel preference and negligent in the negative impact they have had on Star Wars. Usually dig your content but had to cut this off.
For me the Mandalorian biggest mistake was not being it’s own thing. I could have totally seen it being about a Mandalorian just making his way through the galaxy. Bounty hunting, gunslinging etc. idk I’m just tired of everything having to be connected and tied into one another

The people who love Luke’s portrayal don’t understand the reason why we hate it. The problem is that RJ got Luke completely wrong. We’re expected to believe that after episodes 4-6 Luke learned absolutely from the failures of his predecessors. Luke rebuilds the Jedi order and instills his students with the same flawed dogmatic teachings that brought about the fall of the Republic, the Jedi and Anakin. All this, even though it was dogmatic masters who urged Luke to act against his beliefs and instincts. In TLJ Luke rants about these flawed teachings, making fans think “oh, wow he’s so right!” missing the fact that 1: we’re retreading grounds already explored in the prequels and 2: it was up to LUKE to correct them. RJ portrayed Luke to be an idiot incapable of learning from mistakes. He literally had to be told you could learn from failures. Completely maddening.
I just wish you could see how most us fans see Disney Starwars, we ALL wanted to love the SEQUEL TRILOGY!!! Understand that guys!! those of us you call the "Fandom Menace" we never set out hating on the sequels movies! WHY do you even think TFA was so well received, but you have to also understand that a HUGE part of WHY that movie was so well received and loved in the beginning was because many of us fans had the expectation something of substance was going to be done with the Legacy Characters and they would be handled properly. We expected there would be some level of *World Building* and to be given a understanding and insight into whats happened with the older characters, and the Galaxy in general over all those years. The Mandalorian was purely a breath of fresh air for those of us fans who had literally checked out after TLJ and TROS, and so when Luke showed up in all his glory at the end of Season 2 Mando, this took so many of us older fans back to much happier times; all they could have done was give Jon Favreau his own spin-off, focusing on Luke & Grogu's adventures just for a while, coming off of when he rescued Grogu at the end of Mando Season 2. JEDI ACADEMY, and just let us hang out with this young Luke and his first student Grogu for alittle bit. don't even hint at anything that will be to come, no showing Ben turn up at the Academy, we all know the FAUILURE will happen down the line, but just give us some insight into Luke his first early time as a actual teacher of the force himself; this is what so many fans had dreamed of from his tales in the EU. But nope, Disney just had to get Grogu back to Din ASAP, and when you say it almost felt like Disney forced Favreau to do this, dude! That is literally what happened!! Don't believe me!? Just wait and see in a few more years, once Kathleen Kennedy has left Lucasfilm, i'll bet you any money Jon Favreau will reveal this Fact. Adam Driver has eventually spilled the beans on his character Kylo, was ALWAYS originally meant to go full on DARKSIDE, and descend further and further into the Dark throughout the Sequel Trilogy. These actors, they have to wait some years until there's no risk to their careers, and a certain movie is done and the studio has moved completely on. Anyway, lastly i'm gonna give you ALL here a hard pill to swallow but i gotta tell it as i see it, if you think im wrong on this one please tell me and give me your argument but i dont think i am. Okay so i believe DEEP DOWN, on a subconscious level, ALL you Sequels fans (especially the younger ones) you defend these movies because deep down you badly feel away, at the fact all us Fans on the other side hate the Sequels. You have been given something you've gotten into for the first time, that you can say is YOURS, that represents YOUR *Generation* and now others, older generations, who have their *Star Wars* are hating on your stuff; this is hurtful, because you want to show this is YOUR STARWARS!! That is for your generation, and have it become part of this whole Fandom as a whole. But because it's widely rejected and hated even, you cannot take this, and so you defend it to the last. That's what all this is really about. Some of you can see the disjoint, the inconsistencies, how it even undoes things from the OT how that all concluded. Most of you (i suspect) cant and Wont see those things, you defiantly love it regardless because ITS YOURS and NOTHING is going to take that away from you!! It's part of growing up i guess, you have things that are made in your time, of your specific generation, that's how they were made and they were made for YOU so this is it. We are ALWAYS gonna be divided on this one i'm afraid. All i can say is i just really wish Disney had not made Luke and his Jedi School ALL about FAILURE. Not made him walk into ben's hutt and contemplate killing him, but handled that whole backstory differently and made it where Luke actively senses who and what is behind corrupting his nephew, poisoning his mind, and playing heavily on his insecurities and just angst. And then that Luke discovers the person responsible - SNOKE!!! and Luke goes after him, but fails to defeat him. Now IF they had done that, and the sequels become about Luke joining with the new, younger generations of heroes, Finn & Rey, and he's actually ALLOWED TO TRAIN them!! And then they all work together to eventually take down Snoke, and ofcourse then make the focus more of Rey and Finn defeating him. Then this Fandom would not be *Divided* the way it is. Nobody is threatened by a female character kicking ass, and at the sametime i ask this, is it even "regressive" to have Luke "train" Rey?? And don't tell me he did because that what we got in TLJ was NOT "training". This is all about being consistent to what came before, and respecting your characters. IF you're the kind of Fan who thinks being Subversive and Deconstructing tropes that have always run through starwars is NEW and Original, then you don't understand *Star Wars*. And if all you want is for STAR WARS to be as DIFFERENT as possible to where it out right undoes, contradicts and subverts EVERYTHING in the Saga that came before, and the very *Lore* that George Lucas established; then i'm sorry but you also don't know *Star Wars*. There are ways to inject NEW IDEAS and Elements while still staying faithful to *Star Wars*. One e.g. is Filoni creating the Purgill and them being able to natural hyperspace travel from even different Galaxies; that in of itself is a wholely NEW and very Original idea that's never really been fully explored in star wars lore before. It also expands the lore alot and it doesn't contradict anything. Even the idea of the Nightsisters, force users different to the Jedi & Sith, they may not be everyone's cup of tea, yet they're still new ideas that add to the lore.
Completely agreed, overall there has been great stuff from Disney Star Wars, but there has been a lot of not as great/poor stuff they have released. Stuff like Andor and Rebels was fantastic, but theres also stuff like Book of Boba Fett, 6.45/10 is a fair score
Here is my opinion on the Disney star wars movies and tv shows (excluding games sience i haven't play them) The Force Awakens 8.5/10 The last Jedi 6/10 The rise of Skywalker 4.3/10 Rouge one 9.1/10 (the whole movie not just Scarif and the Vader hallway) Solo 8.8/10 Rebels 9.7/10 Resistance 4.1/10 (not made for me and most of us) Clone Wars season 7 9/10 The Bad Batch 8.3/10 Tales of the Jedi 9.1/10 The Mandalorian 8.2/10 Kenobi 7.5/10 Andor 10/10 The Book of Boba Fett 4/10 Ahsoka 7.9/10 (it was good but it had some problems)
Except for the Mandalorian, Andor and Rogue One the rest is a shame for the Star Wars Universe. High expectations with Obi Wan proved to be a huge frustration.
The Disney era for my money has been a mixed bag: There have been some good ones like R1, TFA, Mando S1&2, Bad Batch S2, and Rebels. Heck there have been some GREAT ones like TLJ, Visions, TCW S7 (particularly The Siege of Mandalore), and especially Andor. But there has also been a lot of mediocrity like Solo, Resistance, Bad Batch S1, Ahsoka, Book of Boba Fett, and Mando S3. And then there’s TROS which is tied with AOTC for the worst SW movie ever created. I think this era has demonstrated that it can be great when they let trust their creatives to tell their stories and take bold and exciting directions like with TLJ & Andor. Where they get it wrong is when they do projects only for the sake of fan appeasement and just play it safe like with TROS or Kenobi. If I could change one thing from this era, I would have kept the episode IX “Duel of the Fates” script and have Rian Johnson direct that film as opposed to JJ Abrams or Colin Trevorrow. Even if it wasn’t great, I would have preferred it for the sake of having an actual complete trilogy as opposed to TROS which was nothing but nonsensical nostalgia and a hollow end to what was a pretty solid trilogy before then. That and I think people would have still had a mostly positive opinion on this era of SW as opposed to the mixed to negative with the occasional positive response it seems to get nowadays. (The fact that they did let episode IX down as badly as they did is like if you were playing in the Super Bowl and you lost 70-20. Not only did you fail badly in front of billions of people, but you also failed in the most crucial game of the season. You could have won a championship and instead you became the biggest punching bag and the prime example of choking in the moment when it mattered most.) Still tho, there’s been a lot of good (some great even) and a lot of mid with an extremely bad movie that was supposed to close out a 9-movie-saga. Could be better. Could be worse. Not the best era of SW, but not the worst either. Rating for the Disney era of SW: 6/10 (Trust your creatives like with Andor & TLJ. Let them cook. Listen to fan criticism, but not at the expense of the story your creatives are telling like with TROS. Do all this and we will see a golden age of SW yet again.)
Idk why people hate on Solo. Yea we didn’t “need” it, and it’s not really an important movie that ties into anything larger, but It’s a fun and cool Star Wars movie, that doesn’t leave me scratching my head or pulling out my hair like with some of the sequel movies. I enjoyed Solo, visually it was great, had amazing action, the humour in it was also pretty good, and it told a simple yet effective story. Easily imo at least an 8/10
As just one person, I don’t hate it, personally. But I don’t love it. Like, it’s fine. Music and visuals are really good. I think my biggest things against it are…1) I’m not a fan of Han or scoundrel/thief stories; 2) it felt like everything we associate with Han came from 1 adventure. Tatooine was mentioned and I look at it like “You know, all he’s missing before ANH is failing Jabba on a shipment.”
It's refreshing to hear the perspective of someone who genuinely enjoyed the sequels to a significant extent, especially since I've mostly encountered negative feedback about them. While I may not share the same enthusiasm for the sequel trilogy, I can appreciate the sentiments and rationale behind your viewpoint. Personally, I don't have much interest in anything related to or associated with the sequel trilogy, and I hope that Star Wars can move beyond it, choosing to explore new and uncharted time periods like the High Republic.
I actually don’t mind the sequels nearly as much as others. I actually think they’re pretty cool. If you watch all the vids explaining why they’re bad it kind of takes the fun out of it. Glad to see someone finally acknowledge TFA was pretty good. I am more of a visual guy. And the animations and visuals were really good in the sequels. Say what you want comment section, but I like all of Star Wars. And this is coming from a guy who grew up with the Prequels. So don’t think I’m like 8 years old. I understand why lots of people think the sequels are bad. But I personally kind of like them.
Yes The Gold Man, Favreau was forced by KK to put Grogu back which caused a lot of tension between the two and season 3 of the Mandalorian was being tampered by KK so much Favreau almost quit.
BOBF would have worked as a one-off in the style of Werewolf by Night - a ~45 minute story about Boba escaping the Sarlacc, joining the Tusken Raiders and getting back at the Pykes which leads into where we meet him in The Mandalorian
Yes!!!
I hated werewolf by night tbh. But yea they could have made bobf so much better. Its clear they had no idea what to do with him and were just capitalizing off nostalgia.
That's a really good idea! Unfortunately good ideas are clearly in short-supply at Lucasfilm right now.
The lead up to TFA and TLJ was the golden era of Star Wars on the internet
Those were fun times
Oh man TLJ specifically for me. What a letdown. I still think TFA was a good start. it's everything after that ruined it.
It was but also I think all the hype in fans theory also hurt, because much backlash came when just about everyones fan theory was wrong.
If I have learned anything over the last ten years with Star Wars, it is to be grateful for great times and forget the disappointing times, and we've had a fair amount of both
What i love about this channel is that he gives constructive criticism without hating on the piece of media he’s reviewing
I appreciate that. It’s really easy for me because I want to love everything. Sometimes I try to convince myself to like something, but if I don’t like it I’m not gonna lie to myself. If someone truly wants everything to be great, then all criticism must be constructive. That’s my philosophy I guess

I’m pretty sure the last Jedi has had a worse impact on Star Wars than the book of Boba
It's close, but I'd argue the latter
@@thegoldman25 No offense, but it’s not close at all. The reason people started disliking the Disney era is the last Jedi. And is still the main reason to this day. Regardless of what people individually think of the movie personally, it’s negative impact on the franchise is something people do agree on
The second reason (whatever it may be) is a very distant second
This. 100%.
Could’ve just used a -5 to 5 scale for impact. If something has negative impact, makes sense to give it a negative modifier.
Thx
force awakens was really solid but i think people don’t like it is because they know how it ends
Agreed
If you mean that after all the positive hype for TFA, get in the cinema and realise that they just made an expensive reboot of ANH, then yep…
He even did some sabotage for future writers, like having Rey defeat Kylo Ren was good enough for his movie, but it zeroes out the possibility of portraying him as a threat for Rey in future movies.
rogue one was the best movie in the disney era

I’ll never forget seeing “ The Last Jedi “ in theaters and I went by myself . I remember sitting there and was thinking “ what’s happening “ “Is there a hidden message “ “ is it my fault for being here and being a starwars fans “ . I left the movie more confused about what I just watched rather than trying to recap the whole movie because I was lucky enough to see another starwars film in theatre’s. Since I was a kid ,
I’ve seen every film since ep 1 going forward . Leaving the theater after watching the last Jedi was a very different experience. Weeks later I found out I wasn’t the only one that felt this way and you’re right , it divided the fan base and all the fans that grew up loving starwars, had starwars themed birthday parties, and collected all
The merch and video games , are called bigots now for not liking modern audience starwars
Some fans said what you said about TESB, literally a star wars magazine stopped publishing issues because they couldn't get behind TESB,
They said it divided the fan base.

Disney has a 50% sucess rate. The problem is the ones they fail (sequels, kenobi, bobba) are way more crucial to fans than the ones they got right (Rogue one, andor, mando)
yeah most people agree with you
I personally was furious they made ahsoka live action, completely flipped off the rebels fans by making the world and characters feel completely different to rebels.
Really appreciate this take. Star wars as a franchise, was never free of poor material before disney took over, but the takeover has certainly took its fans from being ardent/passionate to apathetic.
It’s unfortunate but it is what it is
It depends on the fan as a whole it's split, but make no mistake their will always be passionate fans who love what they love.
I get that, I just don’t like that direction
@@thegoldman25 So, what would you change if you could modify this series?

Yes, it sets up the characters well.
It makes me so happy to finally see someone aknowledge the impact the force awakens had at the time, It was the first star wars movie I saw in a cinema and months after it came out me and my friends were still talking about the theories we had and what we thought was gonna happen next
i don't fall victim to revisionist history like others do
Anyone that tries to act like TFA wasn't a massive impact when it came out, is only blinded by the hate train the sequel trilogy has been getting.

While the sub-fanbase for the era is rather niche than the TV shows. With the High Republic being shown in Jedi Survivor and the Acolyte show coming soon, I could see more people becoming huge fans of the High Republic soon.

*So were the Jedi.*
I respect this dudes opinions hard. I enjoy Disney Star Wars, and I’m happy that this guy doesn’t instantly shit on it
Also dude, talk about video games more.
I'm just not much of a gamer, sorry ):
I wish someone kept track of exactly how many times the "true fans" declared Star Wars "dead"and KK "fired" over these past ten years, lol.
"somehow ben solo returned"
Pretty good vid overall and while I would personally knock obi wan down a point and bad batch maybe up a point, everything else seemed pretty spot on for how I feel about Disney Star Wars.
thank you for watching!
a random thing rebels did that permanently impacted star wars lore that i rly dislike: accelerated aging of clones continuing into adulthood and into old age so they die of old age relatively quickly, I feel it really limits the potential of having clone characters in the OT era and beyond and basically adds an unnecessary time limit for when in the time like you can explore certain characters. It also doesn't really make sense as it implies that if the clone wars dragged on for a few more years or decades, the clones would really quickly be past their prime, but the way it limits characters is the biggest problem.
interesting
I'm overall really happy for this decade and the biggest problem that I have come from the Disney corporation for imposing deadlines, especially TROS which if it had been better executed the entirety of the Dinsey era would be looked in better eyes.
I also will be forever grateful for Andor and the Jedi videogames saga. Really excited for the third.
There’s been a lot of good!
I wanna see a video like this but for Batman Forever
Tbh, i started loving Star Wars with the sequels so Disney Star Wars will always have a positive place on my heart.
most of my favorite SW projects are the ones under disney
I hate that Kathleen Kennedy has become a new scapegoat for everything certain fans hate about modern Star Wars.
I hope Star Wars Theory reaches out to have you on his Monday stream! Would be so good to hear you both talking about Star Wars
Tbh I don't think Gold Man would want to associate with SWT 😂
I think the Disney XD start / season 1 does have a bit to do with that)
Keep up the great work.
Disney held something so wonderful and precious in it's hands. How they managed to dismantle, what the og trilogy managed to build, will be discussed for a long long time by fans and industry insiders.
I disagree!
It's just exhausting to be a Star Wars fan, and even calling myself a Star Wars fan fills me with shame nowadays.
the more time you spend on the internet, the worse you will feel about liking new Star Wars unfortunately
The sequel liking I could understand
But the bad batch slander was truly shocking
TROS while controversial, ended the trilogy nicely and seems like it was enjoyed more than TLJ and Solo at least.
I’m definitely subscribed, no worries. I also disagree with a lot of your points generally so take that as a compliment of me still tuning in; I still appreciate your opinions. Echo chambers are bad! :)
Thanks for the sub!
Star Wars Canon died with the purchase of Star Wars by Disney.
Especially the expanded universe.
I'm glad you spared a moment at all tho for how Finn was treated... but in Rise of Skywalker they at least tried to give him something to actively do.
I’m fairly certain that I am a bigger fan of Rebels than you are. Thanks for the video!
Impossible, check your source!
To this day, I CANNOT believe I watched the whole 1st season and half of the second season of resistance 🤦♂️
Andor, Mando s1-2, Tales of the Jedi, Bad Batch, Clone Wars s7 and Rogue One
are the best disney star wars titles
Get rid of Kathleen, and select good authors to write better stories.. it WILL be better.. but the disappointing sequels are a mess.. and killed any hype.
I didn’t get into Star Wars until 2015, but I’ve been loving it so far. I don’t think I’d be as into it as I am now if there wasn’t new content. And we all know George wasn’t gonna make anything else after TCW finished.
I love to hear it!
I loved JFO and JS. Kestis is such an amazing character and the stories are amazing too. Love Cere & Greez too and can’t forget Merrin‼️❤️
At least there are some things for you to enjoy!
Using a Star Trek font for a Star Wars video wrecked my brain for a second.
Honestly I’m more excited for the future of franchise and I think it’s because of all good things which have come before
I couldn't agree more
Bros waffling💀💀💀 (Clinically insane)
EP 8 was good? You're excited for more Rey? WTF am I watching? Oh OK, you're a fan of Rebels, that explains everything.
told you!
These reviews seem extremely biased in sequel preference and negligent in the negative impact they have had on Star Wars. Usually dig your content but had to cut this off.
I gave TLJ a 4 and TROS a 2. You think both deserve a 1?
10 years and still going on strong 💪
Here’s to another 10 years!
im surprised to see a rwby fan here'
For me the Mandalorian biggest mistake was not being it’s own thing.

The Last Jedi is truly the most underrated SW movie, also it show how stupid some people truly are.
Facts
I'm sorry but TLJ was an absolute trainwreck. The character assassination of Luke is nothing short of tragic.
Here is my opinion on the Disney star wars movies and tv shows (excluding games sience i haven't play them)
The Force Awakens 8.5/10
The last Jedi 6/10
The rise of Skywalker 4.3/10
Rouge one 9.1/10 (the whole movie not just Scarif and the Vader hallway)
Solo 8.8/10
Rebels 9.7/10
Resistance 4.1/10 (not made for me and most of us)
Clone Wars season 7 9/10
The Bad Batch 8.3/10
Tales of the Jedi 9.1/10
The Mandalorian 8.2/10
Kenobi 7.5/10
Andor 10/10
The Book of Boba Fett 4/10
Ahsoka 7.9/10 (it was good but it had some problems)
Thank you for sharing all your ratings!
I disagree with you on a couple of points, but it’s nice to see that you can separate your own personal opinion from the popular opinion
This man loves the movie The Last Jedi. He is no fan. Ignore all of his mad ramblings
So toxic ):
Keep quiet, tourist.
Except for the Mandalorian, Andor and Rogue One the rest is a shame for the Star Wars Universe. High expectations with Obi Wan proved to be a huge frustration.
The Disney era for my money has been a mixed bag:
There have been some good ones like R1, TFA, Mando S1&2, Bad Batch S2, and Rebels.
You could have won a championship and instead you became the biggest punching bag and the prime example of choking in the moment when it mattered most.)
Still tho, there’s been a lot of good (some great even) and a lot of mid with an extremely bad movie that was supposed to close out a 9-movie-saga.
Why don't petition it then?
You’ll come to see my rating is similar
Awful take holy
The thing with the prequel was, it was hated by the 80s & 70s kids, but loved by the 90s & 2000s.
I don’t think kids today really liked the sequels.
8/10 for the force awakens is unforgivably high.
Yes The Gold Man, Favreau was forced by KK to put Grogu back which caused a lot of tension between the two and season 3 of the Mandalorian was being tampered by KK so much Favreau almost quit.
Kk is not only incompetent but also greedy
