Some say that tapping was invented by some old-school French guitarist back in the 1930's (there's a RUclips video), however as far as the "rock scene" is concerned in terms of contemporary metal / rock music, the question is, who was the first to commit tapping to tape first? To appear on a vinyl recording. I would argue that with Kiss' Alive 2 with Ace's solo, where he's doing a form of tapping, for me, was the first time this was introduced to the consciousness of the music-consuming public. At least for me, it was the first time I ever heard the technique used "for the record" (pun intended). However, I am not sure when Van Halen 1 was released, was it before Alive 2 or after? I know it was close in time, maybe in 77' or was it 78'? Anyway, the crown of exposing tapping to the rock world might've innocently been presented by Ace for the first time, however Eddie took the style and nailed it to the wall! So I have admiration for both players. Although Eddie was overall the more well-rounded musician and a creative genius when it came to writing and composing riffs and songs. Whereas, Ace was the lead guitarist who added his touch (dare I say, "magic touch") to the songs who also wrote some stand-out songs too! (Rocket Ride, Shock Me, Cold Gin, Parasite, Strange Ways, ALL great, too btw!). But Eddie's catalog is just gi-normous and deep. Ingwie is more of a classically trained musician who happens to be a guitarist, he's more of an instrumentalist. Different category in my book. I personally am not into the Vai, Satriani, Ingwie, scene, but I do dig Di Meola, Holdsworth, Belew and other fusion guitarists, so go figure. That's my 2.5 cents anyway.
They all have their place as guitarist. My favorite is Robin Trower. You hear Robin and you know it's Robin. Eddie, Yngwie, I like them all. I have all Yngwie's albums. He can't sing but he smokes strings!

Alex Lifeson Anyone?? Really?? The first electric solo in "La Villa Strangiato" (Not the classical Intro) has got to take the proverbial "Cake". I think Eddie himself had to step back and say, "Shit"... They did kinda' have a rivalry, Van Halen and Rush back in the day. Rush were the superior musicians, that was blatantly obvious, and that's what pissed Van Halen off the most. They got off on the wrong side of the bed together, from what I can remember... Yngwie' was very musical and melodic when he wasn't rippin 32nd notes. He should check out Yngwie's cover of Spanish Castle Magic from his live album. Epic IMO. I've never met Yngwie myself, but an ex-girlfriend of mine went out with a guy who said he was once a roadie for Yngwie Malmsteen and that Yngwie was an a**hole because he stole his former girlfriend. I totally agree with you. Technically, Eddie and Malmsteen are on a whole other level as guitarists. All of Eddie's solos are memorable and musical. I think poor old Ace is starting to lose it. I read the other day Ace said of Tommy the scab, Tommy, say hello or maybe it was, welcome to the bread line. I shook my head and said, Unlike you Ace, Tommy didn't blow all his money two times like you did and he doesn't need to get in the bread line, he is a multi millionaire. I recall tommy selling one of his houses in LA a couple years ago for millions of dollars. Tommy doesn't have to play for a few hundred people at small clubs and maybe pocketed 500 bucks per show after he pays his band and all the other expenses that come with touring on a shoe string budget like you do. No doubt when Ace is laying in bed and staring up at the ceiling at 5 am in some crappy hotel room says to himself, You fucked up! You blew millions upon millions of dollars, not once! but twice! Look at you! 75 yrs old, practically broke playing for peanuts for a few hundred people at night. That POS tommy and eric are multi millionaires kicking back in their multi million dollar homes with hot young babes. Yeah sure Ace, Tommy is in the bread line now. hahaha
No bleep! What does that have to do with what Ace said about the bread line when he is the one that is broke and forced to play clubs for chump change at 75? haha@@roberthaizlip4057
Eddie himself talked about how he rewrote the backing of beat it to make the solo more interesting and a song within the song . Eddie did they with nearly every song I would suggest and same with Yngwie just you need to want to sing a minor arpeggios….
ACE FREHLEY The Original and Authentic Sound of KISS .... No Hard Rock band & No Heavy Metal band has the SOUND of ACE. His iconic guitar has been imitated but never equaled .....
I'll say what I always say: you can learn to play like Yngwie if you have enough time and dedication but you cannot learn to compose and play solos like Ace. To create solos people would sing alone when you play them... Man, you have to be born with a special talent like that, it cannot be learned. P.S. Anyone can find hundreds of shredders who are famous and respected on RUclips. Has anyone heard one single good song from them? I don't think so. Because shredding is just sport.
The only issue I have with Yngwie Malmsteen at the moment is he's singing his own songs. He should have kept Ripper. That was the perfect singer for him. He had the ability to sing the older songs like "Heaven Tonight" in a totally heavier way and could be just as vicious with songs like Rising Force. Also, "War To End All Wars" is a criminally underrated album even tho the production is "Black Metal" quality.
There's 10yo kids today playing EVH and Ace licks ...its alll what you like Ace threw his Vibrato bar in the trash because its not his style Edward REINVENTED the Whammy slammy lol
Sour grapes. I can't speak for his axe to grind with Yngwie Malmsteen, but with Edward Van Halen? Easy. "Christine Sixteen." End of story and that simple. Gene Simmons asked Edward to come up with a guitar rendition for this song.... INCLUDING... the solo. Gene Simmons who, as well all know, already knew Edward was a guitar God before he even became a "guitar God" wanted to hear what he could come up with. He asked Edward for a favor and Edward kindly obliged. Why wouldn't he? Gene Simmons fronted their first demo album. DUH. No brainer. You scratch my back? I scratch yours. Ultimately after Edward got done doing what he felt was right for the song, Gene loved it so much that he decided to keep it. In doing so though, Ace Frehley was under orders to play the entire solo the exact same way, note for note. This did not sit well with "The Spaceace." and he has harbored ill will toward Gene Simmons and for some reason, Edward Van Halen too, since then. Anyone who is intellectually honest knows Ace Frehley can't hold a candle to King Edward.... back then, or now. No one could. Again, sour grapes.
Ace is a guitar legend with 50+ years of experience as a professional rock guitarist. He has earned the right to express whatever opinion he has about guitar playing.
This is Ace Frehley's gross assessment of Eddie and Yngwie we're talking about, Right? (God Bless Him) Ace Is still great. ain't takin' nothin' away from him...
Yngwie Malmsteen has always been a great player but he's never created anything that gets in your head. Eddie Van Halen was in a league of his own. Even the Van Gina years he was incredible. Just because Sammy ruined it for me, doesn't mean Eddie wasn't creating killer solo's. Ace Frehley is my favorite for Kiss. There's never been any other guitar player for the Kiss sound. Even as great as Bruce Kulick is, he's doesn't create those memorable guitar solo's. But Eddie Van Halen not only created the riffs, but he created legendary guitar solo's. I loved Randy Rhoads too. Even though he's not mentioned, but I have to say "Eddie" was better than him IMO for creating guitar solo's. But only Randy Rhoads is good enough to be in the same league with Eddie. Neither Eddie nor Randy would have worked in Kiss, But they had a quality that's above and beyond Ace's solo career, and way more complex than anything that he's even done. Again, I love Ace Frehley, I agree on Malmsteen, but I totally disagree about Eddie.
This is exactly yhe reason people think Ace is on the sauce again... Of all the players to cast shade at... Eddie frickin Van Halen... Ace needs a psych evaluation...
Is Ace hitting the sauce again? He's taking non sense. While Edward does play fast and shreds, there are solos that you can hum to,you can sing to. Solos from stuff like Finish what ya started,Dance the night away,I'll Wait,Panama,Little Dreamer,Cant stop loving you,Secrets,I can go on and on...but theyre melodic as hell. Here's one for example right here. ruclips.net/video/_CIE041T954/видео.html I dont think Ace knows VanHalen's catalog very well to make such a crazy statement. I'd always like Ace for his different style of playing but I dunno if he should even be commenting on Edward considering I doubt he could even play Eruption without looking bad doing so. The thing is Edward also was great on keys, very melodic on those as well. Meh,stick to just making music Ace,leave the weird ass comments to Gene and Paul. Anyways Feb. 23rd,Ace's new record hits the streets, Love the guy,he keeps early Kiss alive for me(pun intended.) The solo for 10,000 volts sounds like something from Oldschool Kiss, that familiar style, that melodic playing. His new band sound great,Gene did good recommending them to Ace,they sound wicked on the new single.
Ace has learned how to say things to keep his name ‘in the news’. I guarantee you his new record will be good and it will be MAINLY because Steve Brown wrote most of it and produced it. Ace’s genuine creativity dried up long ago.
Hot take I agree ace has more melody in his playing Eddie and malmsteen over load the solos with notes and finger tapping sometimes to the point of over loading the melodic context they’re working in sure top notch shredding but shredding also comes with a dip in musicality I said I said
If you like something enough to listen to it frequently, you'll commit the shit to memory. i love the blues, but to some people all blues based solos sound the same. I guess Charlie Parker, Chopin, John Coltrane, and Bach produced "nonsense" because they used alot of notes. Gene needs to shut the fuck up sometimes.
Honestly, I do agree with Ace. As a musician without putting any ego into it Ace's solos are more coherent serve the music as a whole. Eddie Van Halen is almost an entire sideshow within Van Halen in itself. He's an attraction within the attraction which goes to show how amazing he is. And Gene Simmons' take on Yngwie is absolutely dumb. Personally I believe if anyone thinks Yngwie is a mindless shredder simply doesn't have a mature sense of those musical stylings.
Nothing against Ace, I love Ace! But in my opinion the solo should compliment the song witch all three of these players do. But after Dressed to Kill did Ace play all these solos? Or was it Bob Kulick? Something to think about. Anyway love all three of these guys but Angus Young is my favorite guitarist
So He's really comparing guitarists that basically groove within the song against guitarist who use more pyrotechnics within the song. Mick Mars, Ace and Mick Ralphs of Bad Co are examples of more rythym playing
Ace is full of himself, par the course for a original member of Kiss. He was a influence, yet not the way he thinks. The cartoon got people into the music and once they got in their teenage years, they branched out to real players. He was good for the music he played, along the likes of CC Deville and Mick Mars, good players who played to the song. Yet he was/is average at best.

Hang em High solo is cool to me. And Sickie Wife beater is a underrated guitar player.
MY FAVORITE GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME IS ACE FREHLEY💀💀
I hum EVH and Yngwie licks all the time.... Love Ace though
My favorite top 10 guitar players...1) Eddie Van Halen...2) Jimi Hendrix...3) Yngwie Malmsteen...4) Ace Frehley...5) Al Di Meola...6) Michael Schenker...7) Paul Gilbert...8) Jake E. Lee...9) Uli Jon Roth...10) Jimmy Page...other honorable mentions...Allan Holdsworth Joe Satriani...Steve Vai...Randy Rhoads...Gary Moore...Akira Takasaki...David Gilmour...Ronni Le Tekro...Warren DeMartini...George Lynch...Angus Young...Slash...The list goes on and on.
Where are Blackmore, Petrucci, Kotzen, SRV, Bettencourt, Friedman and Sykes?
@@martinkasper197 The players you listed are part of my list goes on and on list 😊 Those top 10 I named, are just my top 10 rock and jazz players that had the most direct influence on guitar for me...but I'm influenced by all different styles of guitar players and all different genre's of music...From A to Z...Arch Enemy to Zanfir pan flute music. 😊
Just like Rush, and The Police. Although Stewart Copeland thought the world of Neil Peart...😁
@@leddygee1896 Me being a Canadian myself...I would never forget my fellow Canadian guitar playing brothers and sisters that are part of my on and on influences list...Alex Lifeson...Rik Emmett...Frank Marino...Randy Bachman...Pat Travers...Jeff Healy...Liona Boyd...Joni Mitchell...Aldo Nova...Kim Mitchell...and Phil X, even though I wouldn't consider him (Phil X) an influence on me guitar wise...he's a great player (I use to gig with him back in the Toronto club scene back in the day) Great guy.
Hot for Teacher solo isn’t only flash. It is blues based and not basic. Clever and original.
Yngwie' was very musical and melodic when he wasn't rippin 32nd notes. He should check out Yngwie's cover of Spanish Castle Magic from his live album. Epic IMO. I wonder what he thought of Rhoads being that he was similar to those guys - flashy, soulful, classical etc. Paul Stanley has said some great things about RR which most people on here likely already know.
ACE is East Coast....EVH West Coast.
When I was young in the 80ties the Rock kids came either from camp kiss or camp AC/DC. I always gravitated to Angus and co more. No BS - just pure R’n’R .
I became a KISS Fan back then because of ACE & his Solo‘s ! Every Solo from Ace was my personal Highpoint of every Track ! He was the right & perfect Guy for KISS ! Every other Band is Different!
I love Ace for his Work in the 70‘s & 80‘s 👍
I don't think Ace was intending to be negative. He just likes simple, "feel" based playing. Sometimes he over explains his opinions and says things that people could easily take the wrong way. He's just Ace. I love 'im.
EVH=Edward the King!
I've never met Yngwie myself, but an ex-girlfriend of mine went out with a guy who said he was once a roadie for Yngwie Malmsteen and that Yngwie was an a**hole because he stole his former girlfriend. Anyway, they are all great guitar players with their own styles and sound, but Ace Frehley is my favorite guitar player. I agree, his solos are like songs within songs. Schmakemagob.
Ace is right about Malmsteen. Eddie played all types of solos. Some you could sing. Some you can’t. Music isn’t just playing singable solos.
@@roberthaizlip4057Exactly
Ace Frehley is trolling us.
Always loved Ace, but..... Eddie and yngwie are in a class all by themselves.
Eddie himself talked about how he rewrote the backing of beat it to make the solo more interesting and a song within the song . Eddie did they with nearly every song I would suggest and same with Yngwie just you need to want to sing a minor arpeggios….
Look, I prefer Ace's solos over Eddie's & Yngwie's (and Johnny Thunders over all them) but c'mon. Ace HAD to be high as fuck when he said that.
ACE FREHLEY The Original and Authentic Sound of KISS ....
No Hard Rock band & No Heavy Metal band has the SOUND of ACE. His iconic guitar has been imitated but never equaled .....
Ace Is cashing in on coolness. And going Bankrupt😊
I am a fan of Ace, however I disagree with his assessment of Yngwie and Eddie…
Agree
ACE is senile enough he could be President of the United States of America.
Love those Yngwie and Ritchie pictures. Ace had some great stuff but he could only wish he was half the Rhythm guitarist that Eddie was
Ace, Eddie, Malmsteen..... Gary Moore beats them all. He has the technical proficiency and the "feeling" as well
I think it's fucked up at ace could say anything about Edie
There is Richie Blackmore.....and everyone else.
love em all but my fave is tony macalpine, my fave van halen album is diver down
Ace is going the Scottie Pippen route. Bitter old star making himself talked about by bashing his betters.
Ace is a funny guy, gotta love it.
Ace never hung out with Eddie?🥨
Ace claims he’s is a genius, with a 183 IQ. He disguises it very well!!! Bless his heart!!!
Ace copped his idols licks. Eddie copped classical composers licks. I think Lemmy said everyone steals from everyone else ..true.
Ace is a guitar legend with 50+ years of experience as a professional rock guitarist. He has earned the right to express whatever opinion he has about guitar playing.
Who?
As we have the right to say...Go away Lil ace
He only remembers about 5 of those 50 years though.
Rock legend (to kisstards)...not a guitar legend
This is Ace Frehley's gross assessment of Eddie and Yngwie we're talking about, Right? (God Bless Him) Ace Is still great. ain't takin' nothin' away from him...
Eddie plays the blues alot too, by the way.
And Evh didn’t think much of Hendrix and Keith Richard didn’t like Jimmy Page..and I don’t care..ha ha..
If Ace could play like Eddie of Yngwie, then he would. But he can’t. Poor Ace.
At least Ace's music is better than his opinions.
Who is that playing a blistering guitar in the background??
Eddie Van Halen is the best ever!!!
push comes to shove my favourite van halen song. i like yngwie. ace frehley great guitarist. eddie van halen awesome guitarist.
Eddie was a Frank Zappa fan , So was Jimmy Hendrix. All roads lead to Inca.

I dont think Ace knows VanHalen's catalog very well to make such a crazy statement.
Yiewie rules 🤘
Ace is secretly hanging out with gene too much. His age is showing, delusional.
Ace has learned how to say things to keep his name ‘in the news’. I guarantee you his new record will be good and it will be MAINLY because Steve Brown wrote most of it and produced it. Ace’s genuine creativity dried up long ago.
Ace be crazy.
Yngwie he definitely don’t like doughnuts 🍩
Hot take I agree ace has more melody in his playing Eddie and malmsteen over load the solos with notes and finger tapping sometimes to the point of over loading the melodic context they’re working in sure top notch shredding but shredding also comes with a dip in musicality I said I said
Jesus Ace I love you man but what the fuck got nothing better to do?
If you like something enough to listen to it frequently, you'll commit the shit to memory. i love the blues, but to some people all blues based solos sound the same. I guess Charlie Parker, Chopin, John Coltrane, and Bach produced "nonsense" because they used alot of notes. Gene needs to shut the fuck up sometimes.
Those Kiss blokes always seem to come off as insecure children... and Ace cant touch either of those fellas..
Blues Based Huh? We couldn't tell from the pentatonic scale box that firmly locks you in place. Funny... Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Ace has lost his f'ing mind. With love. His ego seems to be comprable to Genes'. And I like ace. 🤪
In his prime Ace was a mediocre player, his leads were basic and even amateurish, he could never understand, much less criticize either player.
Jesus ace...
Got 1/2 right...& well you know who that one is!! Beleave me his name NOT Evh??
Oh please lol….Ace couldn’t even carry those guys guitar cases.
So He's really comparing guitarists that basically groove within the song against guitarist who use more pyrotechnics within the song. Mick Mars, Ace and Mick Ralphs of Bad Co are examples of more rythym playing
I love Ace’s playing, but he isn’t worthy to carry Eddie’s guitar case.
Oh Ace Ace…… I love him but really?? He might have somewhat a point with Yngwie but not King Edward
Ace is awesome but he never got better witch is fine he rocks
IF YOU HEAR ONE SOLO FROM ACE YOU HEAR THAT SAME ONE IN EVERY SONG
And you do the same with Yngwie.
Ace, Eddie and Yngwie are all awesome in their own right but Randy Rhoads smokes them all, LOL!
