It doesn't even feel like the same show if you watch it continously from season 1 all the way through. Eren's character just takes a complete 180 randomly half way through season 4. Ending defenders like the ending because they had to wait so long in between each episode to the point they forgot about the build up entirely.

Bro, Eren knew why he wanted to do the rumbling. "I don't know" was the answer to Armin's question asking him why he wanted to see this sight. And people tried to hide underground. But they got cooked alive when they tried. But it is possible that some people have been hiding in bunkers.
And you are right, Ymir doesn't have Stockholm Syndrome. Ymir was afraid of seeking freedom after she got punished for it after freeing the pigs. She also wanted to connect with people. So she "fell in love" with Fritz because he was giving her attention in her miserable life. Yes, it is fucked up, but Ymir obviously doesn't even know what love is. In her mind this life is better than persuing freedom and getting hurt beacause of it. Basically like an abusive relationship and Ymir was obviously not happy.
And yeah, there is plot armour. But the alliance are basically the strongest soldiers in the whole world. The Yeagerists are amateurs next to them and they didn't shoot at the ship because they didn't know about the alliance's plan btw. Also you give Floch way to much credit. Yeah, maybe you and other people would have destroyed the plane. But this guy is a huge egomaniac who never knew what the fuck he was doing and always needed other people to bail him out. No wonder he got destroyed by the alliance. And the alliance only won the final battle because some of the other past shifters saved them. They would have never won without them.
I didn't make it further. I have heard all of your points a hundred times by now. I also think the ending has some flaws btw. But this sounds like a best of of every shitty point ever made by Titanfolk lmao.

This guy didnt even read or watch the anime, Armin never asked why Eren wanted to see this sight, he asked why when Eren was literally talking about the rumbling snd wanting to flatten the earth, then Eren replied with I don't know why
ymir and king fritz is the dumbest thing ever as she wanted to be free from being a slave of love when she could literally free herself anytime she wanted to, also Mikasa freeing her made 0 sense as they she had nothing in common with Ymir even Eren says "Only ymir knows" 0 explanation and 0 sense
the alliance does have plot armor and you can't justify it by saying they are the strongest lmfao, it was only mikasa who was strong, levi was out of commission, they fought 100 titan shifters at the end with 0 casualties, they should have been taken out from the start then we had an asspull of the titan shifters helping them, how did they help them when controlled by ymir? Only ymir knows ofc and they fought the yeagerists who had prep time and with guns and thunderspears while the alliance had none still lost to the alliance and the alliance had 0 casualties again
You didn't make it further because u know you can't counter those points, you aot ending fangirls will eat up anything and call it a masterpiece 😂

Eren:"I wanted to level everything. I wanted to see this sight."
      Armin:"Why?"
Eren:"I don't know why. I just wanted to do this. So very badly."
Eren thinks of Grisha at the same time who tells him:"Eren, you are free".
So yes, Armin asked Eren why he wanted to see this sight. And Eren could not explain this because he simply had this selfish desire because he has always been this way.
I have already explained why Ymir didn't free herself. Freedom is something she is afraid of. Ymir freed the pigs because at first she pitied them. But because of that the king had her chased by dogs while telling her "you are free". So Ymir thaught that freedom was something not worth chasing after because she will just get hurt doing so. Obeying the king did not make her happy but at least she was safe. Eren showed her that she can at least make her own decisions which is hard for many people to do.
Ymir also wanted to feel love while not knowing what it actually means. So she fell in love with the first guy who gave her attention even though he treated her horribly. But like I said in my previous comment, it's the best outcome in her miserable life (in her own mind at least). What does Eren have to do with love? Mikasa very obviously does. And she kills the guy who she loves for the greater good. I wonder where the connection with Ymir is? And Eren obviously doesn't understand this. The characters don't need to spell everything out. Mikasa even has a talk with Ymir about this right before she vanishes. Man, even I think this part could have been handled better. But screaming RETCON or whatever is just stupid.
What do you mean only Mikasa is strong? Have you forgotten Erwin's words from season 1:"Those of you who survive will turn in to titan killing super soldiers" (or something like that, I'm not going to look this up right now). Yeagerists are amateurs next to them and Floch is an inexperienced leader. They also had help from Shadis. Also the past titan shifters helped them because Armin and Zeke comvinced them and because Ymir let it happen. She wanted to see Mikasa kill Eren, remember? And you are telling me I didn't watch the anime, lmao.
I didn't make it further because this video sucks. But I watched a bit more extra for you and he says that Mikasa got her memories whiped. She didn't because Eren (or maybe Ymir?) pulled her into paths as she was about to kill Eren. So another stupid point. Who would have guessed?

There's a few actual sound and good criticisms here:
Mikasa having memory alteration IS a plothole. It can be somewhat explained, since Ackermans are the product of having the strength of a Titan in a human body, meaning that the idea is that the Founding Titan's power was used to manipulate a number of Eldians to be superhumans; however, this still does not explain why if the Ackerman's immunity to the Founder's influence and memory manipulation couldn't be undone, if these characteristics were given by the Founder's power itself?? This is definitively a big plothole, I agree.
The Alliance plot armor. Definitively, the Allience couldn't have logically survived the battle at the port, they were very outnumbered, Floch was very slow and dumb by not reaching to the conclusion of simply blowing up the flying boat and keeping the engineers quickly. During the battle itself Floch could've ordered everyone to aim their thunder-spears to the flying boat. I can somewhat see Pieck outrunning the rain of thunder-spears, but if they'd aimed at the boat, which is stationary, even with Reiner and Annie acting as shields, they had the superior numbers and ammo, the Jaegerist would've eventually got the boat blown to pieces. Now, for the battle in Eren's back... I actually do not agree as much here: the Alliance didn't put too much of a fight and were on the verge of loosing, Falco save them miraculously, even Connie states this. Next, they were also about to loose again, but their friend's Titans came to help. I wouldn't call it so much plot-armor here, but a collection of conveniences, and I don't mind them, because they are actually explained and are logical.
Zeke's death stopping the Rumbling. I agree on the fact that it is unexplained, and confusing. My only explanation is that Zeke was the jumpstart for the initial Rumbling, so the Rumbling wasn't really stopped, but paused for a few moments. Eren and Ymir would've started another one, plus Gabi also theorizes later that if the hallucigenia and Eren connected again the Rumbing could restart. To me, this is not that big of an issue, but I can see why it is criticized.
These were the only valid criticisms I perceived. Now, for the following is a mixture of you being ignorant, and/or misunderstanding scenes and dialogues.
Eren's motivations. When Eren says "I don't know", doesn't mean he literally had no reasons. Quite the opposite, he means he had a lot of reasons: saving most of his friends, ending the Titan's curse, guarantying a big preriod of peace for his country, his innate pursuit for freedom. He states all of this during the conversation "I wanted to see this view" and "it is as you said. I'm a slave to freedom". Eren had a lot of reasons that made him do the Rumbling, but mainly it was his desire to get a leveled play field, and for that a sacrifice and sin so big as this one had to be made.
Ymir's "love", and intentions. Ymir is a slave from a time where being a slave was common. Ymir had all the power to get out of her abusive and cruel situation, but she didn't. That is the POINT, the fact that she's stuck in that slave mentality, that she cannot aspire to anything better, and her desire to get love back from King Fritz comes from her missing any validation and sense of happiness since she was a child. This is why the show/manga puts the image of her watching a "loving" just married couple sharing a kiss, while she has to carry water. Ymir waiting for Mikasa is simple, is not about Mikasa and her having a similar abusive relationship or slave status, is about Ymir wanting to see whether love can be strong enough to overcome even the person where said love comes from. Mikasa was able to kill Eren despite how much she loved him, something that Ymir could not even when se had all the power in the world. This, is what gives her strength to finally choose death, and stop both the Titans and any will the first King had. This is also why a quick shot of her hugging her children while the King is impaled by a lance on the chest is shown, because it represents her thinking back as if saying "if that day I had the strength not to save him, I would've been free from the start".
The Rumbling not being able to actually be a realistic global scale threat. Yeah, obviously there's not enough Titans in the island to actually do something like that; however, despite the logic assessment, I think this is a nitpick. Suspension of disbelief man, if you can do it for the mere concept of a race of people being spiritually, physically, and mentally interconnected by a different dimension that transcends time, space, life, and death, I think you (and anyone) can do it for the Rumbling. Also, hiding underground? Really?? You know the technology is like 1920s real life technology right? Bomb Bunkers weren't a normality up until the 1960s, and before that, although basements existed, they weren't very deep. Meaning that these basements would either collapse under the weight of the Colossal's footsteps, or act as human size ovens, because they're enclosed and the Colossals are emitting strong heat waves outside.
Historia's baby. Let me tell you something... do you know the term "Red Herring"? It is a narrative tool to make the audience guess incorrectly about something or to distract them for a stronger effect in a revelation/twist. Historia's baby is meant to be a red herring for them potentially being the next inheritor of Eren's titan. This is even more clear in the anime where Historia's labor is shown at the same time Armin blows Eren up in the Colossal's explosion. Also, the baby wasn't only a red herring, it was also the explanation as to why Historia could not inherit the Beast Titan. And, all that was part of Eren's plan, because he needed Zeke alive in Paradis.
Historia's role, while I agree she could've been more active in the story. She still was necessary in Eren's plan by getting herself out of the equation for Paradis politics with her pregnancy. Also, Historia knew everything that would happen, because Eren told her. She specifically being the Queen is what keeps the Jaegar faction at bay, why the returning Alliance can negotiate peace with Paradis, and also (ommited by the anime) the reason Jean's, Connie's, were save, despite them being traitors. Historia had her crucial role as the Queen.
Overall, I would say there are great criticisms about the ending, but many misconceptions. The ending could've got a lot more work for sure, but it isn't a disaster, trash, or bad. It still hits the emotional beats of the story, characters are still great, and the action delivers. The things that do bring the ending down are the plotholes in pre-established rules contradicting, a overuse of conveniences and plot-armor.
Great show, acceptable ending. 9/10 a modern classic (not a masterpiece. Personally I think that term is overused).

@@scarecrow8201 The fact that a character doesn't spell it out for you, doesn't mean there isn't an explanation. How the heck would Eren know Ymir's intentions? He's a separate person from Ymir and she's ultimately the one holding the powers, she's just letting Eren use them. Ymir didn't told Eren why, but Eren knew she wanted to see Mikasa do something.
If Eren, or Ymir explicitly explained word by word every step of their actions and intentions, then this wouldn't be a story with an episodic narrative, it would be literally hearing/reading people's breakdown of their thought process and reflection of their actions as if they were talking to a therapist. I've been trying to understand all the hate towards the ending and I'm very ready to have my opinions changed. I personally have issues with Ymir and the founding titan powers, but other than that found the ending to be thematically consistent with the show and concluded the remaining character arcs. I'd like to give my thoughts on all the points you've made.
    1. The rumbling wasn't pointless, this was to secure the long lives for his friends he has always wanted. The "I don't know" line refers to why he wanted to wipe away the world. His desire for freedom is what has driven him to this point and he doesn't know why he is like that. As for how the rumbling physically is able to trample 80% of the world, I think that's a detail that I and most other people are willing to overlook, and doesn't really affect the story.
    2. Ymir being in love with King Fritz is honestly a weird plot point. How I understood her character was that she was desperate for any type of human connection. We can see her looking from afar at a couple kissing; this tells me she wanted to experience some type of love. When she finally received validation from King Fritz, she conflated her relationship with King Fritz as the type of connection that she wanted and this is what drives her to continue the Titan curse for 2000 years. It is not in character for her to just outright kill King Fritz. In the end, we do see an alternate scenario where she doesn't block the spear. At this point she has realized the human connection that she wanted was with her 3 daughters. Her arc is kinda similar to Eren in that both of them kept looking at the future and what could be, but fail to realize what they already have in the present.
    3. You make valid points here. I personally don't mind the plot armor here. I'd rather have no death than a bad death, but I do understand where you're coming from. As an aside though, You could've made an argument about how the show has time and time again mention a need to let go of something to achieve anything. I've seen people claim that the alliance essentially never sacrificed anything to "win" but I would disagree with this point. I can elaborate further if you'd like.
    4. You're correct that it was previously established Ackermans cannot have their memories changed, but we can clearly see them able to be sent to paths. The cabin scene with Eren and Mikasa wasn't a memory that was erased, it was happening in real time in the paths. After Eren tells her to forget about him, we cut to the real world and Mikasa says "I'm sorry, but I can't". She is clearly replying to Eren here. There is no memory manipulation in play here.
    5. Eren doesn't really free Ymir. All Eren did was give Ymir a choice, whether to continue what she was doing or grant him the powers in destroying the world. She chose to side with Eren at this moment. As for Zeke's death stopping the rumbling, I felt this is actually connected to Ymir's character arc and what she learns listening to Zeke and Armin's conversation. This is where she realizes the beauty in the trivial things in life and that her connection with her daughters were real connections that she should've cherished instead of continuing to please King Fritz.
    6.
    a) Yeah the necro kiss was a bit weird, but not out of character at all. Not sure why this scene is hated so much. I personally was indifferent with it, and it wouldn't change my opinion if it was removed.
    b) The commander Armin was talking to has earlier admitted that Eren is the manifestation of the hatred they had towards the island. He says that if he could do it over again, he would do things differently. When Armin finally says that they aren't titans anymore, the commander doesn't let the opportunity slip to do things differently. This scene is also a call back to s1 when Armin convinces the army that Eren isn't an enemy of humanity, except this time he speaks for the Eldians.
    c) Jean and Connie's titan transformations were just to build tension. To me, it didn't have to have consequences. Again not sure why this point is hated at all, I personally felt indifferent.
    d) It is a shame that Historia was sidelined so hard and I would've liked if she was more involved in s4. In retrospect, we see that her character arc ends when she becomes queen, which is disappointing. However, the point of the whole pregnancy plot point was to deter the military from feeding Zeke to her. There was an entire scene where the military police was frustrated that they couldn't do this. As for Historia, she needed to know Eren's plans beforehand as she needs to spearhead the peace talks between the continent and the island (which I should remind you is very much against peace).
    e) A common theme in AoT is for the characters to be able to let go of something they desire. As Kenny says, everyone is drunk to something no matter what it is. We see several characters like Erwin, Armin, Reiner, and Eren have to come to terms with what they desire. In these examples, Erwin and Armin were able to let go of their dreams, while Reiner and Eren were not. Mikasa's dream just so happens to be love for a certain person, similar to Ymir. I don't think this suddenly makes the story all about love though, it's more about letting go of things that you love that shackles you in the present.
    f) There are so many reasons why he initiates the rumbling and Mikasa is ONE of Eren's concerns, not his primary concern. If it was his primary concern, he would've escaped with Mikasa just like in that paths sequence with both of them. As for Eren's love for Mikasa, I do agree somewhat that it comes out of nowhere, however I wasn't too bothered with it. Eren pre and post timeskip mentions that he cares for his friends and wants them to live long happy lives. It isn't too much of a stretch to think his feelings for Mikasa are more than just plutonic.
    g) The destruction of Paradis is the natural conclusion of the cycle of violence. The series time and time again have Eren say the words "if you don't fight, you can't win" and this mentality's logical conclusion is the destruction of the world. AoT challenges this point and proposes that there are other solutions to fighting. This however requires understanding from both sides (kinda like the prisoner's dilemna), and it looks from the epilogue they were able to achieve this for a time.
I have a feeling that you would've preferred that Eren complete the rumbling and destroy all outside enemies. Even in this alternate ending, Paradis will get destroyed in the end too. We see this happen in the Great Titan War. Willy Tybur mentions when the Eldians ran out of enemies, they shortly started fighting each other. So I really don't think the destruction of Paradis means the efforts of our characters are pointless; the time of peace they were able to achieve is SOMETHING and is not invalidate by the end result.
    h) Eren doesn't turn into a bird, it's supposed to be symbolic.
I'm gonna be honest here. Videos like this make sense if I just take your word for it, but after dissection, your arguments fall apart quite easily. Videos like this just shows a lack of understanding as to what the show is trying to convey. Disappointing really.

      1. Doesn't change the fact that Eren said he doesn't know why he did the rumbling, the physicality of the rumbling is a plot hole and shouldn't be overlooked as its literally the basis for the entire rumbling.
      2. This is literally your own interpretation, doesn't change the fact that ymir being in love with king fritz made no sense and was unexplained.
      3. The plot armor is a fact, how u feel about it is your opinion.
      4. Her memory did get altered, otherwise she wouldn't have asked Armin that question.
      5. You are literally coping here lmfao, Ymir was a slave to the royal blood and obeyed their every command, the moment she disobeyed zeke she was no longer a slave and hence she was freed by Eren, as for zeke dying stopping the rumbling, it is literally a known plot hole since 2021, and your explanation to that is literally your own feelings of what happened and not fact lmfaoo
      6. A) it is disgusting and out of character as no one expected that
      B) a marleyean believing an eldian from paradis, and a comrade of eren who literally wiped out 80% of the world, the same marley that hated eldians for so long, you really expect people to think that makes sense lol?
      C) it was literally pointless shock value
      D) Historia thrown out the plot was a fact. The pregnancy plot doesn't make a whole lot of sense either since she was literally queen with eren on her side.
E,f and g) this is literally your own interpretation and not fact lmao
      H) symbolic or not it's extremely dumb to add that to the plot, if anything one can literally say that Eren turned into a bird and it cannot be disputed lol
The video was all facts besides the 6th part, its not about taking anyones word for it, the video was objective and explains everything perfectly and your counters to every point made in the video is literally your own random interpretation of things, if you enjoyed the ending that's amazing, but remember your "understanding of things" doesn't change facts.

@@scarecrow8201 Let me preface this by saying my, your, or anyone else's interpretation shouldn't be dismissed inherently. Without interpretations of the story, all we can do is look at the plot at face value, and when this happens, it's impossible to explain anything. We should be looking at points in the interpretation and find faults in those before we invalidate an interpretation. With that being said, you have incorrectly conflated your interpretation as facts.
      1. I literally point out that this line doesn't mean Eren doesn't know why he did the rumbling. He knows very well that he did this for his freedom, the scenery, and to secure the long lives of his friends. As for the physicality of the rumbling, this is a fair point. This detail personally does not break my suspension of disbelief, but if it does for you, then fair enough.
      2. The video has mention why this point doesn't make sense and I provide a perspective where it does make sense. You have entirely dismissed my point without attacking it whatsoever, and just say "it just doesn't make sense just cuz".
      3. I'm agreeing with the existence of plot armor here. If this breaks the series for you then fair enough.
      4. This is the only time you actually attacked my point. You should do this for every single point I've made. With that being said, this doesn't invalidate what I said originally. It definitely looks like this is her in the paths in real time and her replying to Eren in real time. Not sure how I would interpret this scene now that you pointed it out.
      5. Ask yourself why was she a slave to royal blood? Why does she choose to stay a slave and continue the titan curse despite having unlimited power? We have come to learn that she was desperate for human connection, and continuing the titan curse is her way of maintaining the connection she had with King Fritz. What exactly does Eren do to "free" her? You mention that this is a plothole since 2021; why is that relevant when I am challenging this right now. Just because an interpretation has existed for a long time means it's automatically correct now? How long this interpretation has existed doesn't mean shit.
      6.
      a) Why was this out of character? We know Mikasa loves Eren from episode 1. She was forced to kill the person she loved the most, so why is this out of character for her. It's a fair point if you found it weird, I personally found it weird, but to say it is out of character is just wrong.
      b) The marleyan commander literally addresses the fact that he has hated the Eldians for many years. He explicitly states that he wants to do things differently if given the chance because he has seen the result of what all this hatred turns into. He doesn't know that Armin is Eren's ally, all he saw was Armin defeating Eren, why would the commander not believe Armin's intentions here? It makes perfect sense to me.
      c) Ok sure. If you think the removal of the scene would make it better, then that's your opinion.
      d) I expressed my disappointment for how much she got sidelined in s4, so I agree with you. I literally explained the relevance of the pregnancy plot line. If my explanation of this plot line doesn't make sense, tell me what aspects of it is wrong. By the way, the reasoning I give here is explicitly stated in the anime.
      e) f) g) The fact that it is my own interpretation shouldn't be inherently invalidated. What about my interpretation is incorrect? The points I mention here are the most central themes of AoT, and all you did was dismiss it by mentioning it isn't in line with your interpretation. Disappointing.
      h) What kind of power allows people to turn into birds, or reincarnated into animals? There is literally no evidence that anyone can do this. How is this indisputable?
It seems you have a certain interpretation of the story and whenever a plot point disagrees with that interpretation, you dismiss it as not making sense and bad writing. Here's a hint; you have probably understood certain details incorrectly if you aren't able to address what I have brought up. If you aren't going to attack my points like you did in #4, I'm not going to bother. I've wasted enough of my time entertaining your sad excuses for a rebuttal.

@@lynesaurus your interpretations can be dismissed entirely specifically because its your own understanding of the plot and not what the plot actually is, i can literally give you 100s of interpretations of mine as to why the ending sucked, that wouldn't lead anywhere as interpretations aren't facts, thats why the video was objective and not based on interpretations, the plot already explains most things and for the parts unexplained you're interpretation of that just becomes theory which is just an assumption, so no one needs your interpretation of it, we can criticize the plot for being unexplained but our explanation isnt fact and the fact of the matter is the ending was terrible objectively, if you enjoyed it, thats good for you, but using your understandings to try and dispute facts is ridiculous lmfao

    • @lynesaurus
      @lynesaurus 10 месяцев назад +14

@@scarecrow8201 Fact is literally what happened in the plot and interpretation is how anyone can understand it. Taking everything at face value is such a bad way to dissect any story. Let me give you a simple example from season 1.
Fact: Jean joins the Survey Corps
Interpretation1: Jean has expressed his desire to live an easy life inside the walls. He has wanted this all his life, yet when given the opportunity, he throws this away for absolutely no reason besides to honor Marco. Him joining the Survey Corps serves no purpose for himself or Marco and is inconsistent with his character.
Interpretation2: Marco's death has affected Jean to the point where he feels a responsibility to do better in the future. Although living an easy life inside the walls is what he truly wants, He reconsiders the duty and responsibility of being a soldier and so joins the Survey Corps. This is consistent with his character.
You can agree/disagree with interpretation 1 or 2 because neither of these are facts, just different interpretations of the outcomes of the story. Now let me give an example given in the video.
Fact: Ymir loves King Fritz despite being abused by him.
Interpretation1: Despite having essentially infinite power, she chooses to obey King Fritz for 2000 years by continuing the Titan Curse even though this is directly causing her suffering the entire time. There is no reason for her to to continue suffering like this, so Ymir loving King Fritz does not make sense.
Interpretation2: Ymir was desperate for a human connection and the connection she found with King Fritz was the connection she thought was looking for. She did not want to let go of this connection despite the suffering because her need for connection pushes her to keep going. Ymir loving King Fritz makes sense.
I've summarized both points, but do you see where the line between facts and interpretation appears? You can attack interpretation2 here by claiming that she WASN'T desperate for human connection. You could claim that something else was pushing her to keep going, then pull up evidence in the plot that supports this. Or you could even claim that the setup to this aspect of her character was not executed well enough, to the point where we can't make that type of conclusion. The video's "facts" that you claim are merely the video maker's interpretations of the facts of the story, which by coincidence, you happen to agree with (and you just so happen to label as "facts"). By your logic, I'm able to discard the points brought up by the video, but that literally leads to no discussion and bad faith arguments.
If you still believe interpretation1 is facts, then we should both just agree to disagree. I have already dissected my own argument for you; I believe you should find faults in what I say instead of entirely dismissing it. I feel you are adamant in your interpretation and anything that goes against this interpretation you would claim as not making sense.

Facts are definitive and interpretations are understandings, understandings can be wrong but facts can't.
      For Jean:
"Interpretation 1" is facts as jean literally does say he wanted an easy life and then decides to join the survey corps in honor of marco and other fallen comrades, it is not inconsistent with his character as he has always shown compassion for marco and his comrades as seen in the battle for trost, so him joining the survey corps makes sense and is facts all of this is shown and said in the manga and the anime so it can't be interpreted in another way
If you want to talk about inconsistencies, one would be Eren and Mikasa's love, throughout the entire series we have seen absolutely 0 signs of love or interest by eren in her despite her even making it so obvious throughout the series, then all of a sudden he loves Mikasa, this is an inconsistency.
      For ymir:
"Interpretation 1" is facts as literally all that happens in the anime and manga and is acknowledged in the anime and the manga.
Interpretation 2 literally makes 0 sense because its inconsistent and the fact is, its completely hypocritical as ymir is a slave or love and wants someone to free her from being a slave of love despite having the ability to free herself, so she wants love yet she wants to be free and even though she can free herself she still wants someone else to free her, rinse and repeat, and finally the person who saves her aka Mikasa, now how mikasa saves her? We r hit with "only ymir knows" yes 100% masterpiece writing right there, 0 answers and 100 inconsistencies
The thing is I'm not adamant, i love aot, season 1 and season 2 in my opinion were probably the best in all of anime, seeing such an amazing show amount to an absolutely garbage ending is sad to see, if you enjoyed the ending thats amazing and i have no issues with that whatsoever.

    @annett5 11 месяцев назад +63

I'd like to talk about 1 individual who had a major role in the story but was full of contradictions in the final episode
Just think about it: Isayama managed to create a silent character, with ZERO dialogue and ZERO monologue but still explore her backstory, struggles, suffering, mystery around her motivation, set such amazing parallels between her, the mc, historia, freckled Ymir, zeke and frieda only through her emotions and actions, symbolism and visuals, he connected it with aot's themes and its lore. He managed to write THIS... so she, ymir fritz, got to be destroyed by 3 gd lines ("only Ymir knows...", "ymir loved the king fritz" and "she was waiting for mikasa")
    Just... why? WTH? FOR WHAT?
Where do I begin? Well, her love for the king... Firstly, no way it's Stockholm syndrome cuz this shit works differently. So, no. Secondly, WHEN did she start to develop feelings for him? Before freeing the pigs? After their marriage? After getting pregnant? When? Thirdly, WHY does she have affection for her husband? He ruined her life in every way, he abused her physically and mentally, he did the same thing to their children but she... Uh, ok, let's see (as if we can). If she loves him, why does she disobey him by freeing the pigs and not regenerating? Why doesn't she smile or isn't happy when he's around? Why does she want him dead instead of her and regrets not letting fritz die? If she regretted this whole time, doesn't it mean she already put herself and her daughters above her husband so the titan curse could end sooner?
Now, ymir and mikasa... Their connection has NO buildup. It's never hinted at something common between these two throughout the entire show. The Ackerman's headaches had no allusion to the goddess. So why mikasa? What about this woman made fritz choose her? The fact she was an Ackerman? Or the person who was able to kill the love of her life? Um, couldn't ymir find someone else, like, sooner, 282 years ago for example, among millions of people, within 2000 years? Or it's because mika killed the founder when it separated from the hallucigenia? How does mikasa know her headaches are caused by ymir messing with her head if eren didn't tell her about that? Who knows, who cares...
Why even show so many well-written parallels between ymir fritz, eren, historia and freckled ymir if they have no payoff? Why does Ymir find herself in mikasa but not historia whom she has much more in common with? Historia is a better version of her, so why not wait for reiss? For what reason does she pick a girl with no dignity, self-respect and ability to move on or grow up? How are her relationship with fritz and eremika bond even similar? Eren didn't treat mikasa the way fritz treated his wife. Eren saved and freed mikasa, that tyrant enslaved and turned his woman's life into a nightmare. The mc and the king are complete OPPOSITES just like mika and ymir. What would she do if mikasa suddenly changed her mind and didn't kill eren? Wait for 2000 years for someone again? How can mikasa help her move on from the king if ackerman didn't move on from eren herself?
Next, if Ymir was the one to make titans in paths, who made her titan? Was the hallucigenia a separate organism or was it connected to fritz after giving her titan powers? If it wasn't connected to her, then why did it disappear instead of trying to find a new holder? Why was it trying to find one at first but vanished after Eren's death? So the founder's death affects it? Then the hallucigenia should have died when Ymir died. But they're not connected, are they? Or the opposite? Ugh... Why did the founder split into 9 titans? Why not 6 or 27 or 3 if she had 3 daughters? If maria, rosa and shina were able to get their mom's power at the same time, does that mean both erwin and armin could eat berthold and become shifters together? And if these 3 ate the founder, shouldn't every descendant of the royal family possess it? Whose child inherited the founder? Rosa's? Maria's? Shina's? Or all simultaneously but after that it split into 9 titans? How did fritz know about the way of passing titan powers to new holders? Was Ymir dead when he fed her to their daughters? If she wasn't, then her power should have been given to a newborn eldian. If she was, then she allowed the king chip her into pieces and saw her daughters eat her? Is that even possible to stay alive after getting cut into so many pieces? If she can rewrite her people's dna, that means she can lengthen their lifetime or make them invulnerable or immortal? Can she provide them with armor appearing out of their bodies or weapons out of the air? Or just stop them from turning into titans? About paths... I refuse to talk about how they work. I would take one more paragraph
Additionally, whose side is Ymir throughout the story on? On fritz's, who planned to build Eldian empire? Or on Zeke's and Karl's who wished to end this empire's existence and wanted her descendants to die? Or on Eren's who tried to save some of them? Is she with mikasa who stopped eren from doing it? Or is she with the alliance who did everything in their power to save the rest of humanity on the continent? Or is she on the royal family's side? WHOM does she obey? Or is it just going with the flow of events? If that's the case, then how can she wait for mikasa? But if it's still for witnessing mikasa murdering eren, then why does she listen to zeke when eren enters paths? By this logic, she should join the mc immediately to see him get killed as soon as possible. Why does she join eren at first and starts the rumbling with yeager but then helps the alliance to defeat him? Why would she do that to someone who made her moved to tears for the first time after 2000 years of suffering, who healed her by his words of kindness, who told her she's just a person, not a slave or a god, that she get to decide and choose? Why are we told in the final mikasa saved her if eren already did that? Did she need help two times? If the mc wasn't the one to free her, how could she disobey zeke? Is eren her liberator or pawn? If a liberator, why didn't she tell him what she wanted or write shit on sand, anything? If a pawn, why make a show "at your service, mr zeke" and weep after Eren's speech? Did eren and she even need zeke's royal blood after Ymir joined the mc?
Also, what exactly made titans disappear? Eren's death, his refusal to live, mikasa's choice, the fact the hallucigenia separated from the mc, fritz seeing the kiss? What? Ymir's desire to stop? So you mean to tell me she wanted them to exist? She could refuse making them anytime? Are you kidding me?
Why did she smile at the end of ch 138? Because eren got killed or because the goddess saw the kiss? What were those scenes with her watching everyone during the rumbling all about?
To think that for more than 100000+- years (if we take into account time in paths moves slower) she created MILLIONS of titans when shifters transformed and when eldians turned into them (dozens times a day), healed her descendants (once again, dozens times a day), changed or erased their memories, rewrote their dna, made shit from crystals, walked millions of kilometers to build titans, carried many-many pails with water and sand, climbed high to make enormous arms, heads, necks etc... for TWO THOUSAND YEARS she made her children and their children suffer, made the world endure, helped the mc start GENOCIDE, watched millions of people die and kill each other, witnessed her people eat one another and so on just because she COULDN'T MOVE ON FROM HER ABUSER! Do you realize how absurd and unrealistic it sounds?
What else should I say... Either she is the stupidest human being or the most despicable person ever. Either her plotline is retconned at the last moment or the author just didn't think it out properly (which is so unlikely). Or after all, maybe, just maybe, she was the true villain of the story all along, not a victim as we thought. We were just ignorant to see it or didn't want to notice.
Tmm, Ymir's character gained the worst conclusion in aot, even worse than eren because we didn't even get to know about her motivation, it remained a mystery because "only she knows...". Her arc was so unresolved and so underdeveloped. What was isayama even thinking?

Ever since her story was show to us, i was thinking exactly that. She simply had no will of herself because she was not really taught about that.
When Eren hugged her and said she was free, i thought this was what she wanted because he was finally treated like a normal human girl.
Then the last chapter came and we discover she was actually in love. It made 0 sense. That was the worst part of the end for me.

She DID "get rid" of the king. When the king originally had an assassination attempt taken on his life, Ymir jumped in front of him to block the spear. When it happened a second time, she was fed up and protected her daughters instead. That was a choice she made. No, she didn't kill him herself, but her actions ultimately led to his death.

Ymir jumped in front of that spear and DIED. She died there and after that the king fed her remains to her daughters and that was how they acquired the power to turn into a titan. This scene was show multiple times...how the hell you didn't see that?
Then, when her daughters died, their flesh was also consumed by their descendants, which also gave them Titan powers.
That's the whole plot of how the titan powers were passed along to the new generation.
That final scene with Ymir just looking at the King dead with a spear in his heart didn't really happen in reality, instead was something she imagined should have done. This was the conclusion she achieved after seeing Mikasa killing Eren.

Eren said the rumbling was the only way because he was a garden variety idiot, also he knew it would put a stop to the titan curse
Ymir being in love with king Fritz is at best underdeveloped, overall its ok, i think you kinda missed the point of the show by deciding to judge a persons motives
Ofc the aliance had plot armor, but they also were very close to death on alot of occasions
(also i believe this is a very bad point to make as all main characters have plot armor)
I agree on the Ackerman point.
Zeke dying made it so that Eren did not have a way to reach the paths and couldnt cotrol the titans. And since Ymir gave him the power maybe Zeke was kept alive only to bring back Grisha Bertolt etc...
If Mikasa kissing a decapitated head was disgusting for you i guess you forgot the bloodshed that is season 1
Personally i didnt enjoy it but its not awful
What more could Armin argue? legit question.

    @srious_gamer1717 9 месяцев назад +1

I decided to try my best to give insight into my views on this topic
“Eren doesn’t know why he did it”
Yeah kind of a dumb manga line. It was better in the anime where he actually realized that all that happened was because he was a “slave” to freedom, and who’s only options were violence
“There’s no way the titans could have walked straight across Marley”
They could have walked in line across the continent before realigning and walking back to the other side, like how someone would mow their lawn
“They could have built bunkers to avoid the rumbling”
No, they couldn’t. Not only would the roof probably collapse on them when the Titan steps on it, but the titans radiate immense heat (see armin and hanges deaths) and anyone under them would have simply been burnt to a crisp like they were in an oven.
“Ymir hd all the power, she could have killed Fritz”
She still had years of manipulation from Fritz before she got the power of titans, plus the fact she had nowhere left to go, she probably returned not only because of her feelings, but because she didn’t know what else to do
“Ymir continued the rumbling after Eren freed her, but then why was Mikasa able to free her again”
Eren freed her from her slavery, but she still went through with it because she needed to see Mikasa kill Eren
    “Eren is nothing like Fritz”
True (violent nature aside), but it wasn’t about Eren being Fritz, it was about Mikasa being another girl hopelessly infatuated with a man to the point it enslaves her. Essentially Ymir needed to see Mikasa kill Eren because she saw Mikasas love and thought “just like me frfr”
“Alliance had too much plot armor”
Fair tbh, Connie, Jean, and at least one warrior should have died. Maybe even Levi
    “Eren erased Mikasas memories”
He didn’t though, we see the memory happen in real time right before Mikasa kills Eren. We know it isn’t a flashback and Mikasa remembers because immediately after, she responds to Erens “throw the scarf away” with “no”
“Why did Zeke dying stop the rumbling”
Yeah this is a weird one, I’m assuming Ymir played along to bring about Mikasa murdering Eren, but that’s kinda shaky and they could have explained it better
“Why didn’t Zeke kill himself if he didn’t want 80% of the world to die”
He had a moment in paths with armin about it, he’s an anti-Natalist and thinks that death is a gift and life is pain. As soon as armin changes his mind and shows him life DOESNT completely suck, he does kill himself (via Levi) to save the rest of humanity
“Mikasa kissing Erens head was gross”
I mean yeah I guess, but it was a heartfelt goodbye from two people who loved eachother, it’s hardly necrphilia, which is just “being sexually attracted to dead bodies”
“We aren’t titans source trust me bro”
Yes. Not only does that make sense considering the people themselves decided earlier before the alliance arrived that fighting is what got them into this mess and they should stop, but the “we would turn into titans to defend ourselves” is a valid enough point
“Historia was just yeeted out of the story”
Yeah she had her arc, her existence is a background to help push more important peices (although I wouldn’t have been opposed to more historia stuff)
“What was the point of the baby”
    It’s Ymir reincarnated.
    “Mikasas Hizuru shit leads nowhere”
It gives us background for the Ackerman clan, where they came from, and why they have their powers while also giving the alliance a way to get to Eren. They were a means to an end, not every character or faction needs to be vitally important
“Eren killed 80% of the world and he only cares about Mikasa finding another man”
No, he had other reasons for ending the world, he just ALSO hated the fact he wouldn’t get to fuck Mikasa
    “When did Eren love Mikasa”
He showed signs of it all the way back in season 1 where he pushed her to join the military police to stay safe, telling her multiple times “don’t follow me into my death”. One of Erens biggest concerns (besides freedom) is keeping his friends safe, and that shows how much he valued Mikasa
    “Paradis got destroyed anyway”
Yeah decades and generations later. Eren never cared about his nation, only his freedom and his friends safety, both of which he got considering the destruction of Paradis (and probably the world) happened long after all his friends died
Anyway yeah ending isn’t perfect and you definitley had a few decent points, but it didn’t SUCK, I’d give it an 8/10 ending, the small plot holes didn’t ruin the ending for me

  • @Boolan999

    Eren made his choice:
so his friends could live long lives
protect paradis so historia doesnt have to inherit the founder & continue passing it to her children
get rid of all the titans (no longer necessary for paradis protection)
for his idea of "freedom" which he couldn't help ever since he was born
he doesn't know why he couldn't help it and value the rest of humanity over these few reasons

I do agree with some of your points but at the end of the day Attack on Titan is a work of fiction, it is very hard for one person to keep up with all of that. It also seems like you just wanted most of the characters to die, all stories have some plot armor to tell a full story. Didn't you watched the video? He didn't want everyone to die, his point was that the plot armor doesn't make sense anymore because none of the main character died in the last few battles.
In the previous season, some of the main characters actually dies like Marco, Erwin, even Sasha died in Season 4 (I could also add Porco too). But after that, all of the main cast miraculously survived every single time. It's so weird because the alliances are literally fighting a whole army of Yeagerist and then hundreds of reanimated titan user (and those titans aren't even normal titans, THEIR TITAN SHIFTERS).
Like are you telling me in season 3 almost all of the scouting corps died because of 4 titan shifters and few mindless ones but then in season 4 literally a group of people survived a dozen of titan shifters? It's ridiculous!

I have a point (or more than one point) proving all of these reasons wrong, and I don't necessarily care enought to say them all, but some of these were, in fact, just opinions unlike what was said in the beginning of the video. But one thing I've got to ask ending haters is how would YOU write an ending for a story like this? Ending haters always talk a bunch of crap, but they often don't say what they'd do to IMPROVE parts of the ending. All of the greatness written before the end can lead to a very, very difficult ending to perfect. While I too believe the ending isn't great, I think it's just right to be the ending. I don't know myself what I'd do to make it better, but this is the ending that was good enough. Writing a great ending that gets little hate for a story as good as this is one of the most difficult things a mins can get too. Not to mention that both Isayama and the anime dudes didn't have all of the time in the world to make a perfect ending (unless if they just wanted to, but they didn't). If I went into my points proving this video wrong, it would be quite long, and I just don't want to argue about that at the moment.
But one thing I'd like to mention is that people also don't realize that Eren could basically manipulate everything, so he obviously had reasons behind everything he did. If he for some reason didn't have a reason for something, it obviously can be explained by how much is happening in his head and with his actions. It's too much for him to handle. He picked the path of events we saw for a reason, and i saw that somebody had the perfect list lf reasons for the timeline we saw and that he picked.
This video just seemed more like nitpicking and slight hating to me. You just gotta realize that possibly nobody could come up with something better than this, even if it's not the best ending. I'm not a huge defender of the ending, but this just felt appropriate and valid to say.

While Ymir was also a cause in the starting of the Rumbling, Zeke was also a cause/a use as well. When the Rumbling starts, we see the spinal worm thingy take Zeke when he's laying on the ground catching Eren's head. Eren or the worm wouldn't do that if they didn't need or use Zeke. I also think that Zeke was so depressed that he just resulted in doing nothing at all. You can see no emotion in that man in the Paths. Not sure if he could unalive himself in the Paths too. The ending sucked.
It was definitely supposed to end with a full 100% Rumbling, the entire Alliance getting killed, and Eren returning Paradis to greet Historia and their daugher, the reborn Ymir, telling her that she is free because she will not be burdened with what came before her thanks to all sacrifices her father had to make to give her a free life.
But instead, AOT went full Shonen and gave us a shitty ass Code Geass, rom-com, and Disney ass ending.
There are plot holes, characters assassination, character regression, and plot holes all over the place.
Eren, in chapter 12, has a conversation with Commander Pyxis where he shits on the 80% plan b4 he even knew of the outside world. He says verbatim: "It's too naive and rosey." Eren right there, shouldn't be stopping for anything.
Ymir's "Stockholm Syndrome" is bullshit. What King Fritz did was take away her ability to speak, burn down her home, and killed her parents, all of which ruined her life. Stockholm Syndrome requires some compassion from the abuser which did not happen.
Eren gave Ymir the CHOICE to decide. EREN freed Ymir. Mikasa DID NOT free Ymir. Mikasa had NOTHING to do with founder Ymir. Founder Ymir yearned for FREEDOM from being oppressed by the will of the king, and EREN broke her away from that. Mikasa didn't let Eren go at all the credits show that. She took the next three generations to Eren's grave. That's NOT moving on.
Eren was not trying to end all human conflict. He was trying to break the cycle of hatred towards Eldians, that's it. Paradis fighting amongst themselves wasn't Eren's concern.
The ending ruined the themes of the show. Eren sticking to his motivations doesn't make him a "edgelord". It's called conviction.
Eren's view of freedom isn't corrupted. It's the literal definition.
Eren primary goal was not protecting his friends. If they needed to be sacrificed to save his home, then so be it. Attack Titans users sought freedom, no matter the cost. Just like Kruger did when he said how he sacrificed the Eldians on the outside for the betterment of Paradis.
Grisha's "stop Eren" changed because of the outside world ruining his past life with Dina and Zeke.
Eren wasn't even happy staying with Mikasa. He was NOT okay with letting Paradis get destroyed.
Eren DID NOT want to burden the future generations with the TERRIBLE cycles of children eating their parents, which is what King Fritz wanted.
There was NEVER going to be an alternative option. It was kill or be killing to the core. If anyone outside side the walls were spared, Paradis was going to get destroyed because peace talks dont persevere anything. They came back and wiped out the island just like Floch said they would.
Zeke being magically Talk no Jutsu'd by Armin makes no sense because Zeke is nihilistic. If he didn't get his plan, Eren's was the next best thing because then there would be no reason to fight.
How did Mikasa get her memories manipulated if she's an Ackerman AND oriental?? PLOT HOLE.
Killing Zeke SHOULDN'T have stopped the rumbling. Eren broke Ymir away from the will of the royal blood, and she WILLINGLY and CLEARLY sided with Eren because HE gave her what she sought. Now, since the Founder IS NOT bounded by the blood of royals, killing Zeke SHOULDN'T have stopped rumbling.
Eren and Historia are the true endgame. It's deeper than just a romantic ship like EM was.
Freckled, Ymir told Historia to start being selfish and live for herself and stop living for others regardless of anything. Eren, in the uprising arc, Eren felt nihilistic after he found out what his dad did and wanted to die and told Historia to eat him and said, "I never needed to happen." Historia resonated with Eren right there because her mother told her the same thing b4 she died. Historia then freed Eren and saved him and gave him his motivation back. Eren then told Founder Ymir those same words, which FREED her. Mikasa is NOWHERE to be found in this. She is NOT what Ymir was looking for at all. The connections between Eren, Historia, Freckled Ymir, and Founder Ymir are abundant.
The ending is far, far, far, from "amazing." It was objectively terrible.
But if you liked it, then God bless you.

"I don't know" well eren may not know why he believed he had to do it but he knew what would happen if he did and what would happen if he didn't and found that despite desiring freedom above all else, doing exactly what he felt like on even the slightest whim turned out to be the only thing that could ever had happened due to the deterministic nature of time in AOT. Furthermore, it makes total sense why Eren would do the rumbling and it is consistent with his character. He has always wanted to kill anything that threatened him since he was a child murdering two men and convincing another child to murder a third (he seems to convince people to murder others often huh) plus he saw that it was either he did it or they got invaded (no ifs or buts due to foresight) and the only thing that really matters to him is those he loves and when one option is have them die and then die in a couple years anyway, or sacrifice himself and suddenly they get to live long lives past their terms in exchange for killing everyone else. he said he didn't know why that was other than it was something that Mikasa showed to Ymir, beyond that he didn't know anything, he did not know that he paralleled king fritz' one sided apathy toward ymir with Mikasa and that her finally killing what she so irrationally loved was what proved to Ymir that she could do the same. Eren even says he went to far in trying to make them hate him as he didn't really know what he was doing, just trying to fulfil the prophesy that he saw after he touched historia.ps eren does not 'stop' half way, when they kill zeke who wanted to stop him, he lost the royal blood needed to command the kings wall titans, he said he would be fine killing everyone if he wasn't stopped.
The ymir argument only makes sense when you view it from a mindset which discounts how REAL PEOPLE ACT, like have you heard about mental illness, PTSD, stockholm syndrome you could give someone with stockholm syndrome a gun and tie up their abuser and they would still shoot you and rescue them because it's a MENTAL illness. pretty basic to intuit that Ymir an abused illiterate, tourtured, turned into an immortal monster child who was then raped by the person who essentially acted as the god of her life since an early age would try to form an attachment to him given that he was giving her the slightest validation. i mean hell we have no evidence of Ymir who had her tounge ripped out ever having a single friend even after becoming the kings wife/mistress. Do some research Dumbass.
Plot armour- the jeagerists were mainly trainees fighting against only the most skilled fighters in the world at that time, many of which haveing titan powers making them near invincible to small arms, it's explained that gun odm can only shoot where it's anchored and if you've fired a gun you would know they are not the easiest to shoot while swinging at speed against people also swinging at speed who are masters of odm gear.
Plane plothole - build another plane, with what factories dumbass, why not blow it up anyway? they were going to, the explosives were already on it but the azumabito were not exacly being cooperative, they were likely going to have to reverse engeneer it anyway if the engineers were going to die for pride.
no, they didnt expect anything to be able to actually stop him
Gabi aimbot- she is a trained soldier, best of her class, has already killed loads of people, trained for years with a rifle, generally characters with rifles in AOT are pretty accurate
The titans on Eren's back are all controlled by one person, Ymir, until zeke and armin convince the original souls to fight through them in the paths, i cant imagine that Ymir had ever fought another titan in combat before, all her battles were A: 2000 years ago, B: untrained, C: against regular people with no technology. everyone on the alliance were the most proficient titan killers on earth.
Ackermans - not exactly sure how race science works exactly in AOT but unless there was no intermingling between the Hizuru peoples in the walls, or the Ackermans in the walls, by the time Mikasa's parents met they would both have eldian blood in them but tbh, the more i think about the specifics of blood relations and the powers they confer the weaker this element of the story's consistency gets, you might be right on this one idk,
Jean/Connie titan- necessary for making the erasure of titans immediately understandable and right there to be addressed without need for a scene change, plus can wrap up the conflict between humans titans and their fear, btw it was Armin saying he killed eren jeager and the marleans you know seeing that shit themselves that convinced them, he saved their lives and is now the new 'helos' makes sense they would celebrate him
Historia baby- the babies the one at the edge of the world and Historia's both represented hope for the future, her having a child also put the euthanisation plan on more personal stakes as then the child would have been aborted since it was born after zeke and eren's contact, There is a bright future on paradis at leas compared to the last light of hope a single crying child being passed around, not a single person below believing in a future for themselves or the child but not wanting to be the one to end it, wanting so desperately to pass on the history that Eren was destroying.
ErenxMikasa- Eren was too young to really LOVE Mikasa before the walls fell and after they did he became so single minded in his desire for revenge that i doubt he cared for romance, however, keeping in mind that from training to basement only took 4 months in which most of the show took place was incredibly dense and trauma heavy for everyone, especially Eren so understandable no romance, but once he learns he only has a few years to live and the titans are gone it's clear how much he repressed his feelings for Mikasa, it's why he was so depressed besides knowing that the rumbling was inevitable was that no matter what, he could never be with Mikasa as he would soon die. I mean all it would have taken was Mikasa saying to Eren that she did in fact love him in order for him to betray everything else just to live a few years with her, with the island burning behind them. so yeah, Eren did love Mikasa but that moment in marley was the last chance for history to be re-written and Mikasa did not re-write it.
And no. Eren is not a bird... thats a heron.
Goodnight. hope you understand the ending a bit better.

It's really weird how much some people struggle with endings that are not "pretty" and aren't spelled out to the audience, so the audience has to actually think about it.
Eren did this for 2 main reasons:
    1. This was the only way, or at least the only way he 100% knew was going work, to get rid of the Titans.
He knew that if he did this, Misaka will do something that would make Yimir content, and therefore the Titans would disappear.
    2. Eren became fatalistic and insane. First, he saw the horrifying visions of the Rumbling when he touched Historia's hand at the ceremony of the retake of Shiganshina, which is why he looks so terrified at that moment.
He says in multiple times in the story after this, in a very sad and concerned way, that "everything is just like in my Dad's memories", referring also to his memories of the future that he was able to see looking at his dad's memories.
He TRIED, and you can see it in the time before the start of the Marley arc, to do things a different way, but it didn't matter what he did, everything just ended up happening as he saw it in his memories, in other words, the future he saw was deterministic. He becomes fatalistic, and decides to just give up to his destiny after every single thing he attempted failed, and then he just became focused on at the very least assure that the things that weren't part of his memories wouldn't end up bad.
After he got the power of the founding titan, he became completely insane, as the past, the present and the future, all just exists in a continuous in which he isn't able to distinguish the differences between them.
And in this insanity, the rumbling in the end was a reflection of the deepest feelings that Eren had in his heart. He believed he was doing everything to help his friends, but deep inside he always dreamed of a world beyond the walls in which everything was a blank canvas for him to explore, and he wanted to recreate that dream he had.

No... I'm so confused as to why people don't know why he did the rumbling when it was outright stated. The world was going to eventually hit Paradis Island. It was implied early on in s4 that weaponry and technology was advancing to the point that Titans weren't going to be as dominant as they always were. Eren set off the rumbling and wiped out 80% of the worlds population to give Paradis Island a more equal playing field. The outside territories could not attack Paradis Island for decades after suffering such a huge blow. This gives Paradis Island a chance for diplomacy. What Eren wanted was for his friends to be able to live long fulfilling lives.

I dont think I have ever heard more bullshit and miscomprehension in one video before.
Eren did know why he did the rumbling, he just doesn't know why he feels such a strong desire to flatten the world. He even said it to Ramzi. "I wanted to do it, I wanted to wipe everything away. When I found out humanity existed beyond the walls, I was so disappointed."
And Ymir was in love with King Fritz because SHES FUCKING 12 YEARS OLD and doesn't understand what the fuck is going on. Ymir yearned for love and it is shown when she sees the wedding. She thought that what she got from Fritz was love, and she held on to it. 90 percent of the people I see trying to think in terms of what they would do if they were in Ymir's position are grown men. I've been in a position similar to Ymir's, I know what its like to feel the way she does about Fritz. She's a 12 year old girl.
And no, Eren did not free Ymir. All Eren did was give Ymir the same false and broken sense of freedom that Eren had, this is shown during the freedom scene when Eren is a little child above the clouds while he is murdering 80 percent of the population.
When Ymir brought Armin into the paths and he had his conversation with Zeke, this made Ymir realize the value in human life, the life she previously thought was meaningless just like Zeke. People often glaze over this part for no reason. Why would Ymir bring Armin into paths for no reason at all? After, she then releases Zeke from the titan and she allows the alliance to stop the rumbling, and then she made some of the previous titans help Armin. (No this wasnt some bullshit spirits of their fallen comrades coming to the rescue)
And the alliance literally almost died several fucking times during the final battle, and I dont know why you guys act like this is the only time the show uses plot armor.
And for the killing Zeke stopping the rumbling and Mikasas memories, those are the only plotholes I can actually agree with.

Again another dumb point, she lived for 2000 years, she even grew into an adult while with king fritz, she was not 12 forever, any average 12 yr old knows when they are being abused lmfao and would avoid their abuser at all costs, you actually trying to relate to ymir is hilarious
Yes he did free ymir, she was a slave to the royal, the moment she disobeyed zeke she was free from being a slave, literally what was shown in the series and what had happened lmfao
Almost died is literally what plot armor does u dumbo, prior to the ending, the show handled plot armor well, they did not make them fight 100 titan shifters and win like they did at the end or defeat 100s of yeagerists with prep time, guns, thunderspears while the alliance only had swords

It is a FITTING ending for Attack on Titan because it is CONSISTENT with the original premise of the show = "To Get Rid Of All Titans From This World" = That is AoT's origin story.
The 2000 years history of Attack on Titan can be viewed as Founder's Ymir personal struggle to overcome her Stockholm Syndrome (A real mental struggle where the captors fell in love with the kidnappers). She knows she is supposed to hate King Fritz who burned down her village, killed her family, enslaved and torture her. But being born and living the life she had, she still yearned for love and unfortunately fell for the worst man possible. OVERSIMPLICATION yes but you get the main gist. She is struggling and wants to be free from her obsession.
About Eren, Ymir is the only one with the power to decide what happens with the Titan's power. Even in the episode "From you, 2000 years ago" Eren only prompted Ymir's to decide. However, like Eren said, he is powerless from this, as the Attack Titan he can see and experience the past, present and future all at the same time, he had tried to look for alternative solutions but the vision of the future just WOULD NOT change. (See Eren's convo with Armin) He didn't wanna go through with the Rumbling (His personal struggle and monologue in the previous movie) but he had very little choice, his only way is to move forward, he is A SLAVE OF FREEDOM.
Re: Eren blaming himself for directing Dina towards mom. What people need to understand is AoT's story is a fixed single timeline and cannot have TIME PARADOX. What happened has happened, THE PAST CANNOT CHANGE. Actually in that moment in time (mom gets eaten), Eren was neither the Attack Titan (Dad) nor Founding Titan(Freya). Future Eren can only speak to previous inheritors of Attack Titan (Dad) who was busy stealing Founding's power (He HAD to make his dad do it because that already happened, that is the only way he get founding powers and the only way he could see into the past). Future Eren couldn't do anything in a larger scale of things because it is a paradox. (If Eren asked dad to save his mom, mom didn't get eaten, Eren wouldn't become the Attack/Founding Titan and wouldn't see this memory and couldn't ask dad to save mom; It's a PARADOX; if he sees this memory then his mom has already been eaten), he is just watching it happen, powerless and can only blames himself. As Historia said: this is not Eren's choice, it's the consequence of everybody's action that caused the Rumbling. If the wall was never broken, mom never eaten, Eren never got Founding Power, Rumbling wouldn't happen. Imagine being Eren, you get to see all past, present and future at the same time but everything is set in stone, he can't change anything, he can only move forwards and see how the story plays out
About Mikasa, she is the real person Ymir was waiting for all these while because Ymir sees herself in Mikasa. The "Runaway story" is like Infinite Tsukiyomi, it is only a VISION/DREAM of a possible future, the viewer experience it fully but it never happened in reality nor there is another timeline. Mikasa was presented with 2 scenarios 1) Give up on saving humanity and runaway with Eren, but this way Ymir continue to be a slave to King Fritz, Titan power remains and continue to terrorize humanity 2) Refuse to give up on humanity and sacrifice her love (she can still love Eren nonetheless), and Ymir can finally be free of Fritz command and choose to remove Titan Power from this world. Mikasa was able to influence Ymir to make the decision to be free from King Fritz. Hence in Ymir's vision she chose not to protect King Fritz (this is only symbolism, the past didn't change, only showing the change of Ymir's heart, once again, THE PAST CANNOT CHANGE)
The whole conversation between Armin and Zeke is basically a discussion about nihilism thinking that basically says "what's the point of living if all things eventually die, why does anything matter if everything comes to an end/dies" To the fans who think "AoT's ending is meaningless because war and conflict continues anyway" -Your thinking is very much like Zeke - "what's the point of living if everyone dies? what's the point of peace if conflict perpetuate?" try to think of it this way - Zeke asked Armin "Why do you wanna go back to fight so much if everything's gonna die anyway? " and Armin/Isayama said to him "Every small moment and happiness in life is worth living, even though all good things come to an end" This is also why AoT and Isayama didn't choose to go with the EUTHANIZATION plan, because all lives born is free, there will be good things that happen to them, and we shouldn't take this away from them. MANY people missed this but THIS is also a BRILLIANT 4th wall break homage saying THANK YOU to the readers - "Even if AoT is about to end, every moment that we (Isayama and fans) shared together was WORTH IT"
The Ending/Conclusion of Attack on Titan is spoke through Levi's monologue = the sacrifice of the hearts of the scout regimen was to reach this place - "A WORLD WITHOUT TITAN". This brings the whole AoT story to a FULL CIRCLE. It might not feel satisfying for some but it is a SUITABLE Ending consistent and come back to its origin - "Getting Rid of Titans from this world". Isayama didn't set out to provide a solution for human conflict, what he did was only pointing out through Pixis and Erwin that "human conflict will never end until there's only 1 man remain." He emphasized it once again through the end credits shots - nor matter what happens, human conflict never ends. Even if the Rumbling was complete, Paradis will still fight a civil war, even if Paradis was wiped out, the human remain will continue fighting".
However to say this ending is MEANINGLESS was a misinterpretation, the whole discussion on the boat with Historia's letter is designed to specifically answer this - the scouts shall continue to fight in a world without titan, and they shall always fight for peace - Armin: "they will want to hear our story, how we used to fight as enemies have now come together to advocate for peace" This can be viewed as another 4th wall break talking about Attack On Titan, a story about conflict, about human cruelty, about war, about racism, despite EVERYTHING that happened, the ending comes down to both sides reconciling, advocating for peace and working for a better future.
Now for the end credits where we see paradis getting destryed eventually and people mistake it as it was all for nothing but its wrong, eren always knew that the cycle of hate, war and conflict would never end but his actions did bought a peace of atleast 500-1000 years (the buildings looks so futuristic) eren his achieve his goal that was so at least his friends and people on paradis that he knew get to live a long peacefull life and die a natural death by growing older. After a 1000 years modern war happened and paradis was destroyed. It shows that the conflict and war is a never ending cycle, even if eren killed all 100% of humanity except for eldians, conflict would arise between eldians. it is a never ending cycle, we also saw a person in the end who went inside the tree as in a theory that teh cycle is reapeating again just like how ymir went in the tree. So long as humans exist in this world, there will always be war and hate. conflict will only end untill we're down to one or less human. That is the reality of out world.

Many people want things and are physically able to achieve them but don't for whatever reason. Millions of people want to be pro athletes or doctors or whatever but only a select few actually do. Your response to that is basically just "But they can so them not doing it doesn't make sense." Unless you are everything you have ever dreamed up your argument is basically invalid becuase whatever explanation to why you’re not exactly what you want to be I could just say "well you should have tried harder." We both know that’s idiotic and ignores all the nuances of your life.
People stay in abusive relationships becuase they feel trapped and physical dominance does not inherently make it impossible for someone to feel that way. People that are stronger than their partners can still receive abuse and feel stuck even though they are full capable of freeing themselves. Reiner is literally the armored titan but couldn’t stand up to his frail mother that hated him because he just wanted a normal mom that loved him. Like I said, the ability and power to do something does not inherently mean that that will automatically happen. You cannot say it "doesn't make sense" becuase this show is about humans and it is a fact that this behavior is found in humans irl. If you want to say it doesn't make sense you have to find a fact in the story which proves that this behavior is out of character.
I agree to some extent with what lyne said about how erin didn't free ymir but it feels a little semantic to say he didn't free her on a technicality. What both of you ignored is how even though you can say she is freed from the royal bloodline, she is literally a slave to Erin as she is giving her powers to erin to take over the world just like she did she did with king fritz. So to say erin freed her makes no sense because she is basically in the exact same position as before except with something else. You can make points about how that makes a plot hole becuase then the kings curse is broken but we both know that there is not enough source material to actually talk on that. One of the largest themes in AOT is cycles of hate and that is only reinforced by the end credits showing how the hate and war continues long past titans being erased so I think it is pretty clear that the reason erin didn't free her is to build on this theme.
The reason that mikasa frees ymir is becuase she was brave enough to kill the person she loved for the good of the world. Literally what you are describing in the second interpretation of ymir that you say makes no sense is a coward and that is what ymir is. This cowardice is introduced to us with her plot with the pigs so it clearly is a part of her character. So much emphasis is also put on how mikasa doesn't want to kill Erin and how ackermans are slaves to people just like Ymir which paints her in a very similar light to ymir. Erin essentially is the modern day king Fritz since he is clearly wielding Ymirs powers in a similar way so Mikasa killing erin breaks the cycle becuase she has the courage to do what Ymir could never do. And I get that the kiss was weird and I was a little taken aback by it as well, but I think makes sense thematically becuase it really drives home this narrative of killing the person you love for the good of the world becuase she is literally kissing the head of the person she decapitated.
Like we both agree, Ymir clearly has the power to kill Fritz and free herself but she is too much of a coward to do it because as it is stated she is in love with him for some messed up reason and becuase of her cowardice, the entire world suffers. 2000 years go by and she is still the same person she was before and is a slave to the king until erin comes around and basically restarts the cycle all over again by once again wielding the full power of Ymir to destroy the world. However, this time, Mikasa has the courage to do what is right and kills Erin and thus breaks the curse becuase there is no person the wield her power, and she finally saw someone do what she never could.

we clearly saw even before she actually killed eren that if someone tells her to do something shes doing it reiner grabs hallucegenia and fight ends in less then a chapter then we have ending which in all is fine except ymir wont be free titans will exist a more wow what a good ending yall so fun?? see how the alliance how a normal amount of plot armor that every show has if you just think instead of blindly hate
hell i can make this scenario even more aot annie says fuck the alliance she infiltrates the base the yeagerist are at because i mean its annie whos gonna stop her? she shifts kills everyone probelm solved crisis averted(wait i just remeber the engineers are sitll in their so that doesnt work) wait actually no annie infiltrates the base she walks up to the room falco andeveyrone is in then shifts using what eren did in s1 to protect the engineers while she kills everyone in the building then if some survive cause this is a half transformation their obviously gonna fight reiner comes in kills the remainder

Since you can only start the rumbling through the founding titan and eren can't use the founding titan without having a royal blooded human. this is why he doesn't transform back into a founding titan when his head gets cut off.. he transforms into a colossal it is because in the paths he can transform into this being but he cannot transform into a founding titan or start the rumbling again.

@@scarecrow8201 That Ymir was never set free. She only became a slave to Eren, her new "owner", and it was Mikasa who actually set her free by killing Eren. At the same time, Mikasa set also herself free from Eren. As for the "Ymir Stockholm syndrome", there was never such a thing. Just like Ackerman's are getting attached to another individual, in the same way the "primordial worm" got Ymir attached to king Fritz. And without "the king Fritz" bloodline, even the "primordial worm" could not control the Rumbling. This is the reason Zeke was important and why the Rumbling stopped when he was killed. This specific "primordial worm" could not reach it's full potential without the Fritz bloodline. Moreover, it is never said that Mikasa's memories were deleted. Her saying "Armin, your memories came back too?" could be a reference to the other Alliance Members who had their memories temporarily erased, not to herself. Also, Eren for sure DOES KNOW why he killed 80% of humanity: "to flatten the odds"...And Paradis might indeed got destroyed eventually, but this happened thousands of years after Eren's time. He achieved his goal, which had been, from the very beginning, a long and happy life for his friends and Historia not have to be eaten by her child. This was the reason her child and her happy life were included in the final scenes. Finally, Eren reacting so immaturely when talking about his true feelings for Mikasa was something absolutely realistic and for sure something we could expect from someone as hotheaded as Eren has been demonstrated to be. I feel like people who don't like the ending are just trying to be highly critical misinterpreting contrarians. For example how do people say the rumbling was "for nothing" or that "he didn't know why he did it". He says that he's always wanted to outside world to be empty and free to explore, this doesn't mean he pulled off the rumbling just because. like no he had the clear intent of NOT stopping war but letting his friends live peaceful lives. Like that's what that whole conversation between armin and eren and even with zeke. about living in the moment appreciating what's in front of you. Eren had clear intent, and warrant for the rumbling, was it right? doesn't matter, it's subjective. when tribalism comes into the conversation the conversation becomes pointless. Also what Ymir had was stockholm syndrome, this happens plenty in the real world you can look up real cases. And I'd also like to point out the fact that nothing about the ackermans not being affected by the founding titans power wasn’t actually confirmed, that just what kennys grandfather/father (I forget) said, that doesn't make it true. Also why is the plot armor so unbelievable? when watching not only shows but anime, there is a level of imagination acceptance of fake concepts within them. Like Armin got burnt and fell 60 meter? So?????? there's massive giants running around with people using grapple hooks like spiderman, and super soldiers that have the battle experience of their past ancestors, oh and did I mention the intelligent 9 titans that have to hurt themselves to make a massive giant spawn from thin air?? Stop being a baby, these criticism are so half assed. which is sad because there are SOME GENUINE good pieces of feedback and criticism to this anime. It's okay if things aren't perfect, or realistic, it's fiction, it's suppose to allow us to step away from the world, from reality. It's art, enjoy or it don't but stop hating some much. :/

Ymir having stockholm syndrome is kinda stupid I agree on that point, but she possibly suffered the same fate eren did. Mikasa had ackerman blood which can bound them somehow to a shared fate with royal blood. And i have an explanation for all the plot armor and bulls.hito that happens, eren made it that way. His power is really god like and he dies only because he wants to , he hates himself with all his might as he was his biggest enemy trhought the entire series, there were so many other posibilities for him to use founding titan, but he wanted to die just like ymir .WE SEE EREN BEING A SUICIDAL MANIAC SINCE SEASON 1, his mind was also in shambles as he experienced past future and present at the same time, i think i would kill myself too , espiecially seeing him struggle to change anything like where he saved that little boy for no reason that gets trampled by him later .

I finished the whole anime from zero in 8 days a week ago. Now, are you making this for views? Attack On Titan has one of the most powerful philosophical life and dead meanings in all the art ever released on screen. You can even say that "Life without love, has no value." For this is the ultimate inner deep reason for Ymir. Mikasa's kiss changes her, because she sees herself in her. In the end Mikasa does what Ymir could never do even tho she knew she had to do it and more importantly had the power to do it, and i mean nothing else, but kill her most true love in order to stop the madness. When Mikasa makes this choice and kisses with the sensation of a true, pure, unconditional love, Ymir surrenders. So i make this ultimate conclusion that "Life without love, has no value in it."
Are you joking? Everything in the anime is predetermined! The Attack Titan's HIDDEN ABILITIES are to see the future, it is stated clear in the anime series. Eren has no power over to stop it! Right in the end he says it all. that whatever they do, 80% of the population die. God, Eren WANTS to be stopped and he knows he will be stopped! So he leaves his friends free to chase him even tho he can control them, because in the end when he becomes the founding titan, Ymir has no control whatsoever over him. In the end the rumbling was run by Eren and Zeke, tho Zeke could operate if Eren's lets him and so he does. This is why in the end Zeke is helping them, ofc Armin plays a big role convincing him to do so. I have watched the final episode over 3 hours for i had many pauses, thinking, feeling, connecting. I say it again in 8 days i finished it all from scratch so my story connecton what uncut by a period of time. Anyway, i do not state my understanding in details for a reason. Waatch it again from scratch without interuption every day until you finish it, and you will get it. Just a small detail to think about is "Why Eren did not killed them in the end even tho he could at any point? :) But rather choose to restrain them in order to continue the slaughter. THE BABY SCENE WHERE THEY ALL FALL FROM THE CLIFF SLOWLY AS EREN'S ARMY APRROACHES HAD ME IN TEARS TO MY KNEES, BECAUSE IT ONLY SHOWS HOW INNOCENT LIFE IS AND HOW IT IS NOT FAIR INNOCENT LIFE'S TO PAY THE PRICE OF PEOPLE'S WRONG DOING IN THE PAST. IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL THINGS I HAVE EVER WITNESSED.
p.s. The scene where Armin is speaking to his body is very, very, very risky. If someone with suicide thoughts watches it, well, stop it immediately and call your most trusty person :) Anyway, re-watch it again with no interuptions, pay attention to everything and you will feel why in the beginning of my comment i stated that this is one of the most powerful philosophical life and dead meanings ever presented on screen.
Anyway, chest tattoo coming along, ty, come again

You watched It in 8 days, I watched it in 8 years and more. Never would I have thought that the ending theme of the story was about love. Love, really?
Also, eren wanting to be stopped seems like a last chapter twist. And even if it was predetermined, because something is planned from the beginning, doesn't mean the execution is good. Eren's story was just a lame man's lelouch.
You seem to write so much about love in your paragraph, it seems like you mostly watch Disney love shows, better stick to that.
Eren did not even manage to stop the hatred between the races, he only inflamed the hatred. The leftover 20% hate the eldians for destroying the world, the eldians hate the 20% for being alive. In the end, eldia became a fascist country and also managed to live in peace, which implies that a nation was in peace and development for years to come under a fascist government.

Eren is a slave to his nature sums it up pretty well. Eren hase always been a character who acted on impulse. "I'm a slave to freedom"

@@scarecrow8201 "I don't know why but" and "I wanted to do that" are in separate speech bubbles if he didn't want a pause he could have easily just wrote them in the same speech bubble. The anime also supports me in this claim because he does pause in it.

AOT is great. Everything happened in the ending has meaning, problem is that you cant accept it as a masterpiece. I Accept that it has some imperfections. But its way more better compared to other anime. Eren says he's a slave of freedom, there's a lot for him to support rumbling. Even it was a bad decision to do rumbling but he had to do it.. for his peolpe, for a world without titans. and the plot armor you talked about are part of eren's planning. Everything happened in the series happened in a loop controlled by adult eren. its a tragic story , what you were expecting for the end of such story. isayama did his best to write a good story. I kow it could be better but it is also not bad as you say. Every argument you gave were exaturated. if you dont like the series, don't spread misinformation.

The ending definitely had it's flaws and I was hoping you would actually make some sense, but your points just kind of prove you clearly didn't comprehend the series, and just lacked thinking overall.
The reason why you think the rumbling amounted to nothing is cause you didn't understand it. Again, he wanted his friends to live long lives. The world was eventually going to attack the Paradis Island. Taking out 80% of the population would equal out the playing field, and they would not be able to simply attack Paradis Island for decades after suffering such a huge blow. This gives Paradis Island the chance to have diplomacy and have their own territory.
You understand having Stockholm Syndrome isn't simply having no way to escape, it's NOT WANTING to escape because they developed feelings for their capturers. Your other terrible points have been refuted by many here already (who actually understood the series).
What happens centuries after they've died isn't what's important to him.
You say everything in the video is 100% facts when in reality, it's just a compilation of false assertions made by someone who has a lack of comprehension abilities.

If it was Stockholm syndrome, why did she die from the spear when she clearly could have healed herself?
Plus, Stockholm syndrome is still not a proven disorder.
