I think his friend who said yes was nice his mom was a trooper as a parent of a child with autism we all want our kids to be included and when we put in the effort we want our child's friends or classmates to at least come or try. I'm glad the coach helped pull his team there it encourages acceptance. Way to go on the science theme.

What a disgrace and shame on those parents of his classmates. Out of 25 kids only 1 accepted his invitation. Breaks my heart. God bless that football team. They've got it together!!

My child has autism. I think it's great what this team did. I think it's great that Christian feels happy that they showed up. I think it's great that the little girl showed up. But I don't feel any negative emotions towards the kids who didn't show up. Many will disagree and that's fine - we all parent differently. I want kids to come to my child's birthday party because they are friends and not because they feel sorry for my child. If kids show up (for whatever reason) and then ignore my child at school, that will make my child feel worse and definitely more confused. In the same breath, I believe kids can be more kind to one another, no matter how differently they are - I teach my kids (one with autism and one without) that you don't have to be everyone's friend but you should be respectful.
I just don’t understand how or why this is a thing now. Parents really (and I am one )need to re-evaluate what we are teaching and modeling to our children. Even if my child didn’t like a child you would go bc you were invited. The only caveat is the bully/jerk of the class...

this happened to me to when i was in 6th grade. i had to lie to my mom and say that she never gave me they invitations so that i wouldn’t have to tell her the truth
