Hey, Michael. Vsauce here. How do we learn language? I mean, obviously through exposure, experience, context, and things like that, but how do actually learn words and what they mean? The only way that we can define words is...with other words. So how did we even learn what a word is to begin with?
Your theory is not true, we do not define a word by other words. The fact that we can define words especially when we first learn them is that we unconsciously used to make an image of every word in our mind to help us understand them, and then they transfer from our short-term memory into our long-term memory as we use them often. For example the word "apple" when we first learned this word, we used to put an image of an apple in our mind to recognize it, and we kept using it very often so it transferred into the long-term memory and became a spontaneous thing to define. Dictionaries contain explanations and paraphrases that help us forming that image more clearly not only to understand nouns but also verbs adjectives and adverbs.. Basically words are defined by usage, Hope that answers your question.

There's actually a (pretty creepy) technology that would allow Facebook to continue posting for you after you die. It would create some kind of algorithm that would enable it to take on your "personality" based on all your FB activity, and then when turned on, would basically act like you even after you die.
