Speaking as a very nationalistic American, I've always loved the look of this plane, no U.S. plane compares! It looks like a cross between a gigantic mig 25 and a ginormous mig 27, very aggressive and intimidating in appearance!
Obviously you know NOTHING of the F-15. It can out maneuver, out distance, climb higher, faster and farther with next gen software, hardware and missiles. The SU-22 can NOT fly to 70,000 feet. Nor can it attack ground targets more than 47kms away. It's avionics really did suck.
Personally, the TU-22 looks like a mix of Mig-23 swing wing technology and an over sized A-5C Vigilante The raw power of the afterburners is still impressive.
@@navyhmc8302 I looked up the A-5C and I agree that they look very similar, the mig 27 is based on the mig 23 and the nose cone and the rudder look almost identical to those on the tu-22. The intakes and twin engines greatly resemble the mig 25, I just wanted to keep it Russian. Such a fantastic looking plane! I'm not arguing with you, I'm just pointing out where I'm coming from, I appreciate your reply.
Andrei Tupolev and his team were sure geniuses. They had jet fuel running through their veins. Like all old aircraft designers. They lived for aviation. Today, aircraft designers only live for money.
@Tony Winikerei T-22M is 60s design and B1-A and B1-B late 70s,early 80s. Versions M0, M1 and M2 was strategic bombers this bombers could refuel in flight! Russia had the upper hand in late 70s! CCCP -USA signed the agreement SALT and SALT2,and Russian must dismount refuel-system from TU-22M2 and version M3 was automatic planned without refuel. In 1975 had USA nothing like TU-22M2 Mach2 strategic bomber, only low skilled B-52 after canceled XB-70.
Always wondered about the idea of a version fitted out as a bomber interceptor...it certainly had the speed for it and a LOT more range than a MiG-25...not to mention the payload to carry many, many more AA-6 or AA-9-type missiles. Would be a throwback to days when specialized versions of daytime bombers like the Ju-88 served, at night, as interceptors...because they were the only aircraft fast enough while being large enough to accommodate both the needed armament and radar.
They already had a plane like that. The Tu-128. This thing is way too big. Big is expensive, uses a ton of fuel . It's also slower than a fighter, not even Mach 2, it takes forever to accelerate (and would be even slower with missiles all over it), and has a much lower rate of climb. It also has no maneuverability either. Just hanging and bunch of missiles all over a jet and hanging out in the sky hoping enemies come through isn't really good policy.
On 70s T-22M was long-range strategic bomber. USSR and USA signed treaty SALT1 and the consequence was reduce the status of these aircraft . Russians must remove refueling tube. Versions M0,M1,M2 had this possibility fly around the Globe. This M3 version was produced without this tube. First fly 1977. Range 7000km.

You are very attentive🤣🤣🤣🤣, I didn't even notice how he jumped
It is a tradition, before each takeoff, a technician hits the plane at the wingtip.

1:57 sound of Soloviev D-30KP engines shutting down
