With manual muscle testing it is more time effective to start with grade 5, if the person can perform a grade 5 test then the testing is complete. It is common when working with patients that observation of their movement, posture and gait prior to testing may give you some indication that they will not be able to complete a grade 5 test, in those cases you may start with a lower level test.
