Thank you for posting, I just recently had this issue. I was so excited as I had some great trade routes set up. Finances were above $700K, but then someone, Beryl, whom I was already at war with started attacking me in both the Old World & New World. I was already at war with her and the game is very hard, despite that not being my settings I have. She actually controls the majority of the Old World map and I have to go by all her islands to get to the New World so setting up a trade route is pointless to send weapons to the New World to help support ship production. Just left me in a very vulnerable position so it's comforting to see that I'm not alone.
I tried making a video for HOI4 about a month ago, but when I opened the game and started playing, I didn't know what I was doing anymore. I need to put some time into it if I were to make HOI4 videos.

I thought so too! And yeah wanting to go to war with them made me build those ships, which really did save me. Glad I don't have to start over hahaha
