- Any speedrun of this game can't be taken too seriously, since it will have lots of randomness with what levels you get and how your opponents play. But I think this is the best format for a fun run of this game- you basically unlock and complete all the levels and you're rewarded with Luigi at the end!

Sparkles, like in Tetris 99, stands out strong players.
In this game is for people who has a low position in average (last 10 games). Not sure if the cutoff is to be in 5th place overall (so, you won't lose it if you get, say 25th and still average 5 or lower).

The fact that Kosmic hit the Star Block in 8-1 out of habit is kinda funny to me
we hit it even before we knew it saved time (thankfully). No way I'm passing up an opportunity to hit a star block!

@@peterg8042 It moves the flagpole one pixel down, which allows you to save a framerule.

In his first 4 games of Mario 35, Kosmic finished 32nd, 13th, 9th, and then 1st. It took him less than 20 minutes to go from not knowing the rules to dominating all 34 opponents.

Luigi won the speedrun by being unlocked. He truly won by doing nothing.
New challenge idea: Play the game but you're not allowed to go past 1-2! Stay in 1-1 or 1-2 for as long as you can! Does this mean that you have to beat 1-2 as often as possible or that you have to survive as long as possible? I don't know, you decide!

i’m level 70 and the furthest along i am is 6-3. so crazy to see someone get all of them in one sitting

I've played for 34 hours, won over 70 times, and still have never even encountered 4 levels, let alone beaten them.
Soo.... How do you get Luigi again? Being serious.
1. You need to beat every single level at least once.
2. You need to hold the L button while the round is loading. You should be able to play as Luigi.

i miss this game so much, even though i wasn’t great at it. it was always so fun. i wish nintendo would bring it back, but obviously they wont.

Now I know why it took so long to unlock the 7-8 levels. My level was too high at the time. I basically had to make final 2 to get them. Oof.
Sparkles are from placing high in last 10 games, but I'm not sure what the average place cutoff is.
In Tetris 99 it's average top 10 that gives you sparkles.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the sparkles are to represent players in star level (past level 99).
In the first match, you shouldn't just immediately give up. You should keep playing levels until you get a repeat, then quit. It would make it harder to track though to not necessarily go strictly in order.
What happens if you try to go to -1 world? Does it work and if so can you have strange enemies show up in areas they shouldn't be able to? Like a bunch of swiming cheep-cheep's in level 1-1.

How the heck do you get your level to show up inside 3 minutes!? I've been averaging top 8 and have been looking for 7-3 for about 6 hours play time now. I've been trying to be strategic with pipes in 1-2 the whole time as well but not once has it been in the warp zone.

where do you go or what do you do to play as him because all the levels are unlocked for me and it only lets me play as mario
if you have a little flag on each level in the top left, start a match while holding L (before selecting a level)

@@GaviWav hold the L button that makes you switch which powerup you have selected (if you don't want to use one, either go to the bottom then hold it so it wraps up to the top, or start holding it immediately after selecting a level)

What do i have to do, to unlock luigi? I know, you gotta unlock all the levels then press l before the match start to start as luigi but for me he, hasnt show up :(
You have to not only unlock them but beat them, so make sure you have a little flag icon on each level

I'm pretty sure sparkles show for someone who joins extremely late, like those who join in at like 73 on the countdown clock.
It's for people with consistently high rankings in the last 10 games similar to Tetris 99. Arika made both so similar engines makes sense.
