    But what if I do want to file taxes even if I don’t get a W2 form

      If you do not have any income and report taxes you would have to mail them in. The systems do not take returns with zeroes. Unless you will be reproting the income as contract work on Schedule C.

    I don't recall whether I filled out form 2298. I am a live-in provider for my daughter but received a W-2. If I fill out the form now, can I avoid paying taxes on my 2023 IHSS income or is it too late? Thank you in advance.

      If you complete form 2298 it will not reflect your W2. The W2 would be entered in teh return, there is a seciton in the software where it allows you to remvoe the income. Ask your tax professional to help you with that.

    So if I’m a ihss live in provider and that’s my only source of income do I do my taxes at all?

    • @ProntoTaxSchool
      @ProntoTaxSchool  3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the question. If you qualify for your IHSS income to be non-taxable and have no other income, then *generally speaking,* you wouldn't need to file since filing requirements are based on having a certain level of income. There are some narrow exceptions to this rule; for example, if you receive "Premium Tax Credit" (to help pay your health insurance), then you'd need to file even with no income. You could connect with a tax pro and have that person review your case, here are some pros from our network who perhaps could review your personal situation and confirm your best approach, hope that helps: experts.prontotaxschool.com/

    If i have a live in care recipient do i have to pay taxes or report my earnings? Do i do anything? Because if i don't that is good enough for me.

    • @ProntoTaxSchool

      If you do not have earned income then you would not have to pay taxes, such as W2, 1099, K1 or rental property.

      No you don’t have to report anything if your LIVE IN. Your not clocking in or out so your good.

      I am a Parent Live in IHSS and I understand my income is exempt from FIT & SIT, so I do not report it. As a “parent” provider, I am NOT allowed to take out for FICA, so it is not deducted from my payments. So how does my IHSS income affect my Social Security & Medicare Taxes, if I receive a SSA benefit? Is my benefit taxed? I have read various info online regarding the 2014-7 AND Publication 926…my daughter is on the Medicaid Waiver. I believe it is exempt, but am not certain. Appreciate any info you may have!

      @@tammyraecarlson Hi Tammy! I think you'd want to speak with the Social Security office or a Social Security consultant for that. We don't do any consulting on Social Security or Medicare.

      Hi Herminia! We don't advise on SSDI benefits stuff since we're not experts on that, only on taxes. I would consider contacting SSDI and asking them how they take IHSS income into account or how that could affect you or your mom's situation...
