    So basically edging the cylinder on every cycle

    It also works on 2 stroke GM's

    You explained 1 stroke out of four. But now since we have no compressed air to push the cylinder down we've created a vacuun on stroke 2, the firing stroke which is just reverse compression, etc, etc. All 4 strokes become compression strokes.
    A lot of people think because they are called compression release valves, that means no compression. Not so. It only releases after it has been compressed so that the intake, which is now closed becomes a vacuum or compression, then stroke 3 which is normally exhaust stroke becomes a compression stroke because the exhaust valve is shut.
    Then the intake valve is shut on intake strake, creating vacuum again. All 4 strokes are turned into compression strokes with no firing. Only compressed air being released after compression, hence the popping sound.

      So is it pushing unburnt fuel out, or is it only intanking air during this.

      @@bobbyholland8160 it doesnt supply fuel into the engine when the gas pedal isnt pressed and the engine is above idle rpm

      @@bobbyholland8160Even modern cars turn off injectors when 0 throttle input and above idle. I have a standard so pretty simple, but some autos use the trans to slow the engine if just the brake lights are on. On auto muscle cars, there was even kickdown linkage to kick down a gear while costing for engine braking.

    This kind of seems similar to diesel locomotive dynamic breaking. The only difference is that diesel engines inside diesel locomotives produce electricity. What dynamic breaking does is it somehow causes the electricity to create friction, slowing the locomotive down. I would have to talk to a railroad professional to give you more detail, but that’s all I know about dynamic breaking.

    On all the cummins 6bt 6.7 liter engines I've ever worked on uses a sliding ring inside the turbocharger to restrict exhaust outlet. Nothing changes the exhaust valve lift internally.

      That's an exhuast brake; they build pressure within the exhuast itself.
      Real jake brakes build pressure within the cylinder itself

    Ok I've worked on vehicles my whole life.
    Exhaust brake, Jake brake. Does nothing inside the motor to change. It's closes off the exhaust to snuff the motor out. Causing the motor to brake on itself.
    Nothing in the motor. Unless I've missed something since 2015.

    • @motorcycledoorsforsale4155
      @motorcycledoorsforsale4155 Год назад +11

      Yes you have definitely missed something. It’s brake, not break.

    • @vhateverlie
      @vhateverlie Год назад +2

      Yeah, it's just an Exhaust restrictor which forces the piston to use it's energy to force the exhaust gas out instead of it moving more freely out of the cylinder.
      Zero idea what this guy is talking about.

      @@mitchellandrew3318 an exhaust brake is usually used on a pickup truck and is a restriction in the exhaust to slow the engine down. A Jake brake is used on heavy duty diesel engines in semis and actuates the exhaust value during the end of the compression stroke to slow the engine down, no fuel is injected when a Jake brake is on so the cylinder makes no power and the truck slows down

      A real jake brake has everything to with inside the motor 💀 It literally changes the timing of the exhaust valve to prevent compression. Don’t know that you’ve been working on your whole life but it sure as hell isn’t rigs with Jake brakes.
