- One of the most expected returns in European HillClimb Racing, here is Manuel Michalko and his completely rebuilt and revolutionary Citroen Saxo RP5 at St. Agatha Bergrennen, in its completely new 1150cc Turbocharged version.
Leaving the 1600cc Class and going straight into E1-2000, they chose a very different route, using a very low displacement engine in Turbocharged form, with around 350Hp at over 8.000Rpm, all this moving a 790Kg FWD machine. It is a quite experimental package, with a lot of bespoke solutions from its engine, gearbox, ALS and eletronics management. So much so that it is still a suffering from "youth" issues and it was possible to see them here, as Manuel and the Saxo were not able to complete the event, retiring on the first Sunday run.
But the most important thing was how quick the duo was able to be straight away. On the pratice runs they were able to post impressively quick times, among the Top 5 fastest within their Class. With more development and time behind the wheel and we coud very well be seeing one of the big dominators of the 2000 Class next year...
Sure it goes with 2 bars of pressure. To get 350hp out of a 1200cc .. is something .. RESPECT from Romania
A lot of work went into this engine. And on this case there is not even any motorbike engine parts. Lots of bespoke parts ;)

@@johnsmith-nl3js it is a PSA engine but very hard to pinpoint which exactly, as even the Team doesn´t disclose the info. It is not a TU5, although it uses some of its parts, and there´s a whole host of fully bespoke parts built for this engine unit. Wow,very,very impressive car.Remember it back when it competed in 1600cc and it was crazy fast.
Now with turbocharged engine to go in 2000cc class.Clearly this was a test run.
Next year he'll go full throttle against Marko's A4.Manuel Michalko vs. Andreas Marko in their crazy machines-what a treat for 2020. season.
350 bhp for 790 kg. That is a pretty good power to weight ratio. 😀

The Turbo makes a nice Predator Sound
Huggin the road like a Fiesta RS turbo but better obviously. Proper little monster.
Had two saxo’s and as soon asi done a full lowering job with spax adjustable suspension the put so nice poly bushes on as well it handled like a dream and the James full exhaust system helped as it sounded deep but ok power isn’t Brest but round local streets it was awesome little car with great road grip you could through them into...
Pretty cool.

This is not based on a motorbike engine as others say. This is a PSA engine originally, although by now modified beyond recognition as plenty of bespoke stuff like crankshaft is being used, with the rest being an amalgamation of PSA parts. There´s a lot of secrecy behind the project, but there´s a lot of trick stuff made to make this power unit have only 1150cc.
We don't need big CCs to have reliable power, good parts and good turbo does the trick...
Fror the people who know Euro cars... like the Renault 5 Turbo, there are builders achiving like 500hp out of a 1.4 liter cleon fonte engine, a engine design that has about 50 years!
PS (kinda off topic too): Since I put my r19 16v to repair, I got my self a 90´s clio with a 1.1L cleon engine (same design as the 1.4 turbo but with no turbo), it has not a lot of power but for a 1.1 it has good torque for what it is... Oh and it's so freaking economical for a carborated engine.
@@HillClimbMonsters psa block has been produced for decades. About time someone did something with a 1.2 as the 1.6 block is the same thing...just a rebore to 1.1/1.2/1.4/1.6/.18 shocking how making an engine building works. Bit like Subaru....doesn't make its own block like the china made bmw block now.
