I found the other side handles don't leave enough room for the hdmi cable and hang gets caught up. This new handle seems like it sits wider so that's cool! Might be a nice alternative to rocking a top handle all day.
I like this. I keep the audio adapter on with the top handle, deity s mic 2s and I mount my phone to it with monitor+ app on it. No cage or anything. I dont think it gets more compact than that lol. LOVE the fx3!!
Sadly my left handle kinda broke on my last shoot ...😔I bought mine November 2021 and now it doesn't lock anymore when rotated clockwise. Counter-clockwise still works though. Really sad thing, because I loved that handle😭
Is this handle better than the wooden one which can be fixed on either side ? Asking because I don’t know if I’m more comfortable with a handle on the left or the right… Right seems more intuitive
@chrisbrockhurst great video thanks for sharing this great knowledge. As a newbie to videographer information you are sharing really helps. May I ask what mic you have mounted to the rig.
Funny how we filmmakers who have cameras and rigs… still watch through every rigging video recommended… 🤣 nice simple rig do woman do the same with makeup videos?
Love this setup, do you think the rotating side handle would fit on the tilta cage for the FX3? Was the same as you loving the side handle on the FX6 so this looks amazing but also really like my Tilta Cage😂
Cool video! Though I never understand in what situations do you guys use such rigs without microphones? I would 99% times take my mic over the monitor.
@@chrisbrockhurst Oh wow, thats interesting. Weddings with handheld but no audio from it, is this a music video style of editing or more like a documentary? I am curious to get inspired as I shoot a lot of weddings myself and cant imagine without a microphone.
@@dathofilms generally it's for reels. So he'll had music to it and there may be some sounds from the camera but the majority of the sound will be led by the soundtrack.
I ALWAYS have a mic on my rig. Have the a7Siii with the full Smallrig cage with my Sennheiser directional shotgun mike in the hotshoe on the right of the monitor solidly attached right over the right-side dials with a Smallrig rubberized universal clamp. No rubbing of the microphone as in Chris’s video where noise is inevitable
Question: Is there any issues on having your shotgun microphone rotated 90 degrees if it's set on stereo? Like the right direction now would be on the top and the Left on the bottom? Or am I overthinking this? Thanks!
Man… I was about to pick up fx3, but now the a74 with the xlr module seems like it would make more sense. I don’t really need high frame rates or extreme low light. Do you plan to do any image quality comparisons between a74?
Trigger warning @ 03:52
You’re a brave brave man 😂
My trigger was at 0:00 when the shots wasn't in focus 😭
Chris why not use the XLR & shotgun mic and attach the monitor to the handle?
I've seen many horror movies, but that spinning was the scariest 😱 😂
All jokes aside, it just shows how confident Chris is in his gears👌
Really appreciate the share, Chris! I’m definitely grabbing some of these accessories

See why I like this guy and definitely want to meet him some day?
Clear explanations of interesting (new) gear.
Thank you very much, Chris.
You and dunna did it planning trip with let's travel
🌾🌾👀🌾🌾 That handle thoooo
Sooo pleasant to watch it being built up, I'm a huge fan of run 'n' gun setups 😍
Sadly my left handle kinda broke on my last shoot ...😔I bought mine November 2021 and now it doesn't lock anymore when rotated clockwise. Counter-clockwise still works though. Really sad thing, because I loved that handle😭
thanks! it is not easy to find easy rigs, most cover massive rigs
I need that multi tool. I need a multi tool with the correct hex or allen wrench sizes for those bolts.
Chris: Spins a $3800 camera and $2000 lens on a $100 handle.
Me: 😱
That should tell you all you need to know 😛
Actually using the exact same rig for a few months now and am loving it
Does using an external monitor disable face detection like with my A7iii?
@@danielkeane1225 no it doesn't
@@LARENT amazing thank you 😁
Does the side handle get in the way of the flip screen if you open it?
@@nicktsonis7102 Yes it will but not in a unusable way
omg my stomach dropped when you spun it hahaha
😅
Great video. Thank you. Please share the information for the monitor. Thx.
is there a handle that is also a Bluetooth controller. where you can start and stop recording?
Portkeys p6 is no longer available. Do you have any other suggestions on a run and gun monitor?
Chris you got another suggestion for a monitor???
Is it possible to add a monitor right next to the normal screen so I have a fully articulating screen instead of just a vertical tilting screen?
Is this handle better than the wooden one which can be fixed on either side ?

How is the rotating handle doing. Is it still functioning properly? seen some video showing it got loose after minimal use :( Thx!
Hello, does the handle block camera monitor?
can u use the side handle while u have fx3's screen open on the left side? or the screen almost block ur fingers to grab the handle? thanks
@chrisbrockhurst great video thanks for sharing this great knowledge. As a newbie to videographer information you are sharing really helps. May I ask what mic you have mounted to the rig.
this nato rail, can it be bought separetely?
Will the rotating side handle interfere with the articulating screen if it's open to the side?
Open the flip screen and can you tap to focus from your left thumb?
Can I use the tilt monitor mount for my Tilta cage ?
have u tried mounting the monitor on the handle? .. so when u articule handle the monitor follows.
Chris what’s the name of the monitor? And the battery 🔋 please?
Funny how we filmmakers who have cameras and rigs… still watch through every rigging video recommended… 🤣 nice simple rig
do woman do the same with makeup videos?
Haha 😂
Can you tab to focus port key?
Nice video Chris. Can the XLR handle work on the rig? I need professional audio for my run and gun filming. Thanks,
Can you rig that handle to be on the Tilta Cage?
Nice hat… is the podcast coming back?
Can you use the flip screen while using the side handle?
And if we want vertical mode on rs3?
Love this setup, do you think the rotating side handle would fit on the tilta cage for the FX3? Was the same as you loving the side handle on the FX6 so this looks amazing but also really like my Tilta Cage😂
just checked and yep it works flawlessly, with the Tilta Cage.
@@chrisbrockhurst Amazing thank you! Just purchased🙏🏾
Can’t decide if I want the handle on the left or the right!
Cool video! Though I never understand in what situations do you guys use such rigs without microphones? I would 99% times take my mic over the monitor.
I actually shoot a lot of things that don’t require audio or audio is recorded externally. Weddings is a great example.

@@Pfagnan thank you Pierre. Do you connect the mic via xlr adapter or 3.5 mm jack?
Question.. how's the stabilization with the Small Rig and FX3? Do you have any footage of that?
What monitor did u use??
will u come to LA?
cage + handle and some screen... where is the rig?
You ever fix your audio issue chris?
One last question ist the handle really smooth? xD
Nahhhh it’s horrible 😅

Shotgun mics are all mono. Your camera might give you a stereo file but it’s double mono.
Not sure if it does a big difference rotating it, if shotgun mics repel noise on all sides equally. Thanks
What can you possibly make with no audio attachment
Broll
@@IJohnSmith broll = boring
So you prefer the fx3 to the a7siii
the handle can work with the hdmi clamp?
Nice video! Quick question: can this rig fit for the fx30?? That setup is beautiful
late reply but the fx30 and fx3 have the same body!
Man… I was about to pick up fx3, but now the a74 with the xlr module seems like it would make more sense. I don’t really need high frame rates or extreme low light. Do you plan to do any image quality comparisons between a74?
once I get my hands on it yep!
i would personally have regretted not having 4k120 in full frame
Come to Jamaica 🇯🇲 I’d love if you could shoot my mind six video plz
Would this work for a Sony A6000?
If you get the A6000 cage absolutely
But what about audio?
Dose this fully work with the a7siii ?
100% !! Different cage but yep
the way you placed your mic, you are going to touch it with your hand and have unwanted sounds on your audio
So frustrating it’s left handed. What about us who focus with our left? They don’t seem to do a right handed version. Which monitor are you on?
✌....
First!

can i use that as a top handle too?
