      I honestly think it depends what you are cooking. Simple meals are cheaper to make at home such as pasta, stew, soups, etc but when it comes to more exotic dishes from restaurants that require uncommon spices and ingredients it can be more expensive to make at home. My friend thought he was saving money making Thai cuisine and ended up spending money on spices he won’t use all the time when cooking.

    • @jon6309
      @jon6309 3 года назад +1

      @Curtis Steele for your case maybe but I live in Hawaii where everything is overpriced. My friend ended up wasting food because he didn’t use all the ingredients. Storage and spoilage is something to consider. Also he is not the type of person who likes to eat the same thing for one or two weeks straight so you are sacrificing variety in the process too. Sure I save a few bucks but am I really enjoying the next two weeks?? That’s something to consider too!

    The problem with home cooking is that you buy groceries that get thrown away. You’d have to make sure that you are using the extra ingredients to make additional meals. I’m not very good at that.

Both are over brown rice for lunch for the week and I still have some left for dinners. I also made Mac and cheese. I have leftover pork taco meat and fried cabbage from last week, as well as frozen and fresh veggies to add where needed. I rarely eat at sit down restaurants and I’m trying to hit the drive thru less than 2x a week. I’m trying to be healthier and save money.

      In Louisiana we have fast casual places that are under $10. There’s a formal (I mean you’re waited on but not “fancy”) taqueria with really good 3 taco plates with a dish for $15. If not in a pricey city formal dining with quality food runs average $15 & nearly always under $20/person. Imo a $10 taco better come with truffle Gouda & f2t arugula

  • @terri639

    This whole video is entirely bs. It's obvious it's created to make a story where there is none. If you eat out at 90% of places you won't pay $30 for three tacos. I can go to my local Mexican casual dining resturant and get 3 tacos, rice and beans all for $8.00. So with tip that would be $10. This video is completely outrageous.

      It isn’t the $30 that bothered me bc there’s some ingredients that could actually elevate tacos to that tier and even higher, those just aren’t the norm. $5 each is more sensible for average formal dining. ~$3 on a promo day. Makes the savings more like 1/3 or half instead of 1/6 they calculated

      Jonas Kuo My guess is it's a slight exaggeration. At a casual restaurant a "gourmet" burger, fries and a drink could easily cost about $10 but it's a full meal. Surely these $10 tacos came with more than just tacos.
      Edit: I forgot that she was saying $30 per person rather than the whole bill. If she is so smart, you'd think she would know to pick something a lot cheaper on the menu or go to a more reasonably priced restaurant.

    • @terri639
      @terri639 4 года назад +2

      It's really going to depend on what people put on them. In my family it would be more because we do a lot more veggies and also cheese. It would cost us probably around $25. If all four of us go to our Mexican restaurant it's only $50 total with tip and that's usually if we order an appetizer. Sure...it saves some, but this isn't always the case.

    What I do is I buy fresh ingredients and cook most of it into a larger meal (maybe double a recipe, or make two or three different meals) and then freeze the leftovers in smallish containers so that 1) the fresh produce gets used instead of thrown out, and 2) so that I have things to eat throughout the week. All I do is let it thaw on the counter overnight and stick it in the fridge before work. Having a day or two off helps because I usually have the time to do this and it saves me the time and multiple commutes to the grocery store through the week and I only have to cook on the one day for there to be meals already made. I still do eat out occasionally, but mostly fast food rather than a restaurant.
