Hey everyone, I know I left you on a cliff hanger last week by not finishing the fuel tank compartment, but the videos are so long as they are , I feel I need to add the important elements in detail and thus more episodes. As I time lapse a lot of my videos to speed up the process please, watch the entire video as fast forwarding the content is not looked on favorably by RUclips and seems to reduce our recommendation to other interested viewers. If you need to skip a bit , go and have a cup of tea or take a pee break to help me get the viewing percentage up if you can. Ad breaks are also important to watch as much as possible , after all, RUclips allows me to put content up for nothing so I appreciate any help sharing the channels content. Thanks and enjoy the vid,Cheers Rossco
Ross I’m a painter, there’s a little paint holder I use called a pelican that lets you use a brush and a wiz roller at the same time. There’s even a built in magnet so your brush sticks to the side while your using the roller. and the handle of the pelican wraps around over the back of your hand so your not gripping tight with your fingers all the time. It’s a very very handy thing to use for these sort of jobs where you’d like to keep switching back and forth from brush to roller and they’re only about $20. I hope this tip helps, cheers mate.
Looking great Mate . Skin cancer is no joke and needs to be taken care of Fast. Like you i was lucky and had it treated and cut out fast at a very young age ;) now i get to see Ross Building his dream Cat :).
Well Ross, one task complete and a million and one to go. Still progress is progress. Glad to see it happening, and I'll be waiting for the next completed task. Always glad to see the Admiral checking up on you. That'll keep you on your toes. LOL! Regards, Solomon
I get those skin cancer spots, too. 55 years of riding motorcycles and other outdoor stuff catches up with us. No worries about some spots. Great progress, although I'm almost two years behind in watching.
Hey Will.It is a dilemma dealing with the sun spots.Regular check ups.Paying for a lot of years basting in the Aussie sun. Thanks for checking out my channel.Cheers Ross
It doesn’t matter what it looks like it’s matters that you do the treatments Brother skin cancer is nothing to mess with but you know that it’s great having a mate around work goes much better great video
It was good to see another RUclips “Finding Simon” mention you in his 30 sites to check out. Thought you’d like to know. Take care and thanks for all you do....Mark
Another cliffhanger - hope the inspection went ok! Good to see the boss approves of the work done so far. What you call cold is probably still t-shirt weather in the UK 😀⛵️
Great episode again Ross - Hmm the String line v Laser level; funny conversation; I hope "he" wasn"t about when you said -"I think I need to move it 5mm - it doesn't look quite straight" or something like that 🤣🤣.
Should have used a string line on those tank braces... They would have been arrow straight. ;) Great work and I look forward to your report from "the government man". Thumbs up and bottoms up!
First it would not be a Life on the Hulls if you left that part out. It is one of the things that makes your videos great is the true life honesty. Hope your healing well Ross and hope her ankle has healed by now. she is going to have to push you harder to get the flooring in so she can walk thru and inspect your work. Yall have a good day down under.
Face all healed up really well,i look 10 years younger now.lol.Janet'sankle really good now, we grabbed just finished five massive days of walking in Austria Slovenia and Croatia .Thanks for the reply buddy, great to hear from you .Rossco
Hello Rosco , Looking great don't think that those tanks will move to much and that's good for fuel , can't wait till you start putting in your molds take care and see ya next time hoo roo
I think you will change your mind about drones once you get out on the water with the new boat. They practically fly themselves and the quality of the video with gimbals and whatnot on the drone produces some pretty wicked film.
When I gel coat as a top coat, by brush, roller, or spray, the last thing I do is put sheet of plastic wrap on top of the wet gel coat. Give it a try on your next experimental piece. Depending on your wax content you may have to spray a thin coat of PVA on the plastic wrap and let it dry before applying to the gel but it makes a nice finish.
On smaller jobs I would certainly use some wrap but in the case of this sized job the waxed resin is absolutely fine and working time would be too limited. As it provides a slightly textured result it hides the margins between cloth and tabbing a bit as well, with hard wearing properties that will not see foot traffic in the end. Thanks for the comment Stacey, great to hear everyone's techniques,I love this part of this channel ,it makes it so worth while.Ross
Don't you think you need to apologize for the scaring on your face you just stay healthy I want to see you and your wife sailing that cat in a few years your biggest fan from Chicago
Hi Ross, hope everything is well on the medical/health side, take care! Following your channel from day one and I appreciate and admire your work ethics, looking forward to see you sailing that babe.
Great job. Nothing better than finishing of even the smallest of jobs. I feel like there's going to be years of vlogs before you splash and get off the hard.
Looking like a job done well or is that a well done job?..It matters little for its a Love of what your doing that makes it less of a job and more a pleasure. Keep the wide brimmed hat handy Ross, makes good shade when needed !!
Thanks Buddy.Hope your BCC is ok,I have had 6 cut out over the last 25 years all of which ,so far are benign.Paying for my younger days as a dive instructor working on a boat with virtually no sun protection.Stay well.Ross
Have you used Nuplex's "industrial grey flow coat"? I buy it from their factory outlet down here in Melbourne. It's only about $80 for 20 litres. They tell me it's the remnants of various black, grey and white gel coats when they clean out the mixing machinery. Better to sell than pay to dispose of! It's a bit runnier than normal flow or gel but the price is great. It can be slightly different shades bucket to bucket but it's always light grey.
Ross, congrats on the progress and try not to be 10ft deep in the black-water tanks. What's up with the knock on drones? I would have never forked out the bucks for one, but my son bought me the Mavic Zoom and it's really cool to film with. I do want to know why you don't like drones.
Absolutely Dan.Plenty of sunscreen fir me as always.I have had a brilliant result with the cream and hopefully dealt with the bccs on my face.Cheers buddy .Rossco
Verry nice Ross, its gonna be an awesome catamaran when done. By the way, the skin, i think you notice it more than any body else, its not really looking that bad. All the best, and take care Sir ;-)
Great progress! Have you had to redo anything that hasn't passed inspection? Keep up the great work. Thanks a lot Ross for all of these videos. I started watching you in my second year in Korea and have been on board for about 18 months now.
Chips and scratches will happen, continually over the years. Still good idea protecting them for now. Meanwhile if Australia wasn’t so far from Canada I’d join you in the bilge for a few weekends.
About time, I been dying inside waiting for todays video. Give us an update on the chemo cream !! You doin alright ?? Edit: oops, asked before I watched to the end. !! Good Deal ... Like building (2) 40' yachts at the same time.
I'd prefer to see you using a forced air breathing system with a full hood and remote air inlet that's far away from your work area. Remember that the chemicals are vasoconstrictors that hyper constrict your blood vessels. Any hidden partial blockages in your blood vessels will become full blockages.
Hi Rosco, FYI I tried searching for your channel on Fire Stick RUclips, search was "life on the hulls" all lower case, you did not show up. As hard as you are working you should have 100k subs by now, not sure if your channel name is having a negative impact. Godspeed on the recovery and treatment.
Great work as always! A bit of " useful advice" is just what the doctor ordered, as you work alone all the time 😏 Btw, it was about time a good looking woman is shown as well, might help the subscriber numbers........😎
looks great, you might want to keep an eye on the masking tape, if its there too long the adhesive will harden and be a real bugger to remove. I've used this www.bunnings.com.au/bear-48mm-x-25m-clear-all-weather-tape_p1661582 on Fibre glassed items exposed outside and been able to remove it after more than 12 months without the adhesive being left behind.
Overspray of a waxed resin could possible create more problems for me than it is worth, also I avoid contaminating the lines of my machine with wax as it could lead to delamination on the next job I use it on,no matter how well I clean the apparatus. I have a hvlp gun for flow coat but decided I could guarantee a slightly thicker one step process and finish not as critical in the bilges. All the best Rossco
Life On The Hulls - Building a Cruising Catamaran No not that type of gun A small hand held gun that uses a paper popcorn cup 1 quart size You can use low pressure and Quickly roll it out I don’t think it would overspray Just a idea for the future This gun is so simple 150.00 You use your finger to stop gel from coming out The only moving part is the air trigger the aluminum lid comes off for easy cleanup you just dunk the whole thing is acetone I have two of them You could just drape some plastic over that area for quick tent I don’t think you’d need it It’s great for small molds spraying outside as well It’s a g100-6 gelcoat gun
What paint or paints would you recommend for the bilges and lockers of a mid '70s bluewater cruiser? Is epoxy de rigueur? I'm in the States by the way.
🍾🥂🎈👍 Woohoo a bit is finished. It's been a long slog to get to this point, well done Ross. I'm not wearing my glasses so you don't look any uglier than normal, if that's any help.
Two forty foot yachts??? Never thought about it that way. Have you had your mental health checkup? I think we need to hear from your wife on this one Ross
If you want to keep the effects of your treatment to yourself & close ones I totally respect that. But if you're not gonna show yourself explaining what your doing or having a laugh with someone as you think we don't want to see it, well me and others who have commented disagree. If you're totally ok with it then put it out there, there are lots of people who have no experience of cancer or anything until it strikes them or someone close, and it's because everyone all auto assumes to hide it-almost like it's not there.

Keep doing what you do Ross and we as followers of your channel will do what we can to make sure youtube hears us supporting you.
I'd get along with your mate really well. "String line, plumb bob, and water level is all you need." 👍

Thanks for watching.Janet is a mean inspector ,she tells me everything looks great then cracks the whip to get it finished.Cheers Ross
If i was able to come help and lose 20kg in the process I would be there in a heartbeat. Keep up the good work.
I get those skin cancer spots, too. 55 years of riding motorcycles and other outdoor stuff catches up with us. No worries about some spots.

I so agree. His health is what comes first. not this channel, or the boat.
Keep the banter, makes it humorous.
It was even funnier that I had no footage of him farting around with the string line.Funny stuff.Rossco
It was good to see another RUclips “Finding Simon” mention you in his 30 sites to check out. Thought you’d like to know. Take care and thanks for all you do....Mark

one step closer Ross. looking good.
Never had a build inspector that looked that nice 😉
Janet is a very meticulous inspector. It is her dollars paying for it.Hah.
That's funny Ross, the joke in our house is , I make ever dollar my wife has .... Hahaha
I guess super duty sunscreen is in your future. That and a big brimmed hat. 😁
Great progress! Fun bit with you buddy there. 🤣
Thanks for the video.
Should have used a string line on those tank braces... They would have been arrow straight. ;) Great work and I look forward to your report from "the government man". Thumbs up and bottoms up!
Again with the string line You would have to get dorm in the bilge and prove it to me bro.Cheers Rossco
You have done an amazing job well done I'm proud of you. Aussie Aussie Aussie!
Thanks buddy, good to see you keeping uo with me.Cheers Ross

Exciting times Ross.
Nice getting some clean, painted/flowcoat and finished bilge sections Ross, good on you!
after 2years 45 minutes it looks good mate!
Another Banger keep em coming mate.
Tough ass yacht Ross!
Roscoe! You make sure you build a proper bimini for the boat, I don't want to lose my inspiration to get out there brother! Love always!

it must be an awesome feeling to see the first part of the boat painted! looking good bro! and kick that cancers butt!
Looks so good so far I am happy the fuel bilges are done one step closer to launching
Ross, congrats on the progress and try not to be 10ft deep in the black-water tanks. What's up with the knock on drones? I would have never forked out the bucks for one, but my son bought me the Mavic Zoom and it's really cool to film with. I do want to know why you don't like drones.

Great Ross, you are making great progress!
Great work, always a good feeling when something is completed...
Remember the jungle gyms in grade school, Yours just got bigger and cost more. But when done you wont have to look at the same old school Enjoy.
Great progress Ross. Name change to "life in the attic" pretty soon I reckon.
Cheers Matias all good now .Rossco
Pumped everytime I watch your eps, seeing progress is awesome, can't wait to see it all together

did you flow coat the slats?
Hi Ross, why did you choose to go for Poly tanks rather than have them integral to the hull?
Nice Ross! Does the inspection get you any closer to demolding?
Great video as usual. Looking great. But... What's the plan should one of those fuel tanks ever need to be replaced?
Hi Rosco, FYI I tried searching for your channel on Fire Stick RUclips, search was "life on the hulls" all lower case, you did not show up. As hard as you are working you should have 100k subs by now, not sure if your channel name is having a negative impact. Godspeed on the recovery and treatment.

Good support solution. Whole concept of the free surface effect is baffling , Lol.
Funny boy Roger.Brilliant.Ross.
How much fuel will they hold?
Each tank has a 270ltr capacity Brad.Cheers Ross
Should of used the string line
Ohh stop it,not you too.All the best Rossco
@@LifeOnTheHulls if you want it straight use the stringline mate if you want it right measure twice
@@lauriekennedy7984 so true.

Why not spray that and be done

Life On The Hulls - Building a Cruising Catamaran
No not that type of gun
A small hand held gun that uses a paper popcorn cup 1 quart size
You can use low pressure and
Quickly roll it out
I don’t think it would overspray
Just a idea for the future
This gun is so simple 150.00
You use your finger to stop gel from coming out
The only moving part is the air trigger the aluminum lid comes off for easy cleanup you just dunk the whole thing is acetone I have two of them
You could just drape some plastic over that area for quick tent I don’t think you’d need it
It’s great for small molds spraying outside as well
It’s a g100-6 gelcoat gun
