May 11, 2024--My daughter called me this morning at around 1:30 am MST. I headed down to a local park. First time in 72 years I have had the chance to watch this.
I couldn't see it from Tucson, but I've witness the Northern lights twice over in Alaska & flying over coming from Europe. Just beautiful.. it looks like a path to another dimension. Really awesome 👍🏽❤

I’m so freaking jealous. So many people got a chance to see the Total Solar Eclipse but it was covered by thick grey clouds in Louisiana and I also missed out on the Northern Lights.
A definite bucket list item. I will never see that here in Hawaii. Going to northern Sweden might be great but it's a hit or miss. Although nothing's guaranteed, it's better than where I am.
Interesting that Canada didn’t get them as beautiful or vibrant as they usually do in the more northern parts. Down south seemed to get very vibrant colours. Lucky you! 👍🏼😎
The northern lights (Aurora Borealis) can only be seen in the northern hemisphere. The southern lights Aurora Australis) only from the southern hemisphere. You can't see the northern lights all over the world. Yes, they are both caused by the same thing at the same time.

The reason why the lights are commonly visible in Scandanavian countries (besides their geographical location) is because they have fewer people and less pollution.

Mars has a weak magnetic field. Solar storms like this have blown away the Martian atmosphere over time.
One of the reasons Earth is habitable and Mars is not... our strong magnetic field shields us from these kind of outbursts from the sun.
