Metropoulos PEC pot Master Volume demo

- Demo of a Metropoulos 50 watt with '68 era lead specs, with a PPI MV mod. The volume pot in this amp is a PEC dual type, which costs $29. I feel the cost is justified by the consistent tonal balance, even at very low levels. By comparison, the $0.95 Alpha dual pot is very inconsistent and sounds harsh at low settings.

my god, i forgot how good these amps sound. No overdrive pedal could ever sound like this.
Sounds good George!
This video really shows the superior sound quality of the PEC-pots. I also tried Tokyo Cosmos pots as well, but the PEC sounds much better. I use a PEC dual gang 250K for a LarMar-PPIMV in JTM45-clone and the amps sound great at extremely low volume. But you must be lucky to get a perfect pot. On some pots, the shaft is moving just a little bit in the housing. It does not impede the tonal quality, but it is worrying because of the very high price of the pot. If I pay so much money I have to expect a perfect pot.
definitely worth the money! the alpha pot master volume sounds mushy at low volume.
George put one of these on the PPIMV on my Metro 12000 series and it is truly a master volume game-changer. Couldn't be happier =)
Is it a ppimv mod? I'm not hearing anything I would associate with fizzy preamp, master volume overdrive. I didn't even like the ppimv on my SLP build that it came with, so I clipped it out of the circuit.
@@willdenham More of an upgrade than a mod. I think the PEC pot is just a higher quality part within the same ppimv concept.
Time to upgrade my Lar/Mar I guess. Listened through studio monitors and good headphones, sounds great through the whole sweep, right down to next to nothing. Have to see what CE gets at wholesale cost. Thanks George.
Hey George, Does Valvestorm have these? Cool seeing you rip it up a little. Sounds great!!
Best sounding Master Volume mod I've heard. Anywhere in the UK do this?
MW47742, George said that you can achieve this gain with the Metro-Plex. It has a best in class master volume. It offers three voicing's and the '68 mod mode will deliver the gain you are seeking. We have a dealer (Pro Guitar) in Schwarzenbruck Germany that has one in stock, I believe.
Sounds good George and great playing. Loving the Zero Loss Boards I get. Do you have a self contained solution for usable TMB when installing a PPI master volume? Thanks, Hopkins...♫
I just acquired one of these kits (NOS) still in the package. If only I had an amp to use it on.
George, I'm really intrigued by this. I have a Lar-Mar PPIMV, sometimes I feel like it loses clarity when it's turned down real low. And at volumes not quite loud enough for band practice, it does sound a bit grainy sometimes. The PEC pot will fix this?
Nice!! Just curious, did you lower the NFB resistor due to the PPIMV??
Any way to address the lack of negative feedback at lower settings? Would a variable NFB pot do the trick?
I have a marshall 1959SLP with a PPIMV LAR/MAR mod and would like to fit a PEC pot what ohm should I look for 250k ? 500k? 1mg?
thank you.
Is there any dealer for PEC pots in Europe? Or are there any European makers of pots like this quality? :D
KERAAANG! Just to confirm this is a rich mod 2? I have two PEC pots one 250k the other 500k. Just trying to decide whether to go larmar or Rich mod
With a 500k dual pot are still using 2.2m caps? Or are they different values?
Where can I get one? Thanks
Hey George..where can i find more info and pricing on your amps...website doesnt seem to work?...
Thanks
We'll be back online next week. Sorry for the down time. Until then, feel free to email me. sales@plexireplicas.com
Georges, are you using the same PPMV as on the metroamp CD? That dual PEC pot makes a difference, sounds great man
Hi J-F. Yes, the same PPI MV.
thx for the Reply, the PEC pot makes it sound like that? sounds soooooo good man!! Hope the forum comes back in line...!!
Great tones. But it still affects the -FB loop at low settings, right?
Yes, it does. The presence control will have less effect as you turn the volume down.
These demos always sound far more Marshall than actual Marshall demos done on other channels.
Which PPIMV design is this? There’s too many to know just by listening, but THIS is what I’m trying to do with my Plexi!
Lar mar type 2 from the trainwreck pages (dual 100k). PEC pots are sealed and have fairy dust inside.
Dual 250K not 100K. Rich Mod uses dual 500K
Any idea how loud it is at very low volume less then 1 maybe ?
Well, at 1:15 he describes the actual volume as being WAY lower than "1". So, while I didn't quite understand your question, I hope it was answered :)
I'm asking this : how loud is the volume at 1 ? Is that a bedroom level (can I play at that level during the night while my son is sleeping ?)
Sylvain Alain Oh. Well, I'm not a technician or anything, however: The amp we are looking at here is very loud by design. From my experience, I would say that putting this thing's volume on 1 is going to be loud. It won't be unpleasant to the ear (I assume, haven't heard one in person but I have heard amplifiers of similar power outputs) , but it will be loud. But I highly doubt this can be a problem, since volume controls go from 0 to 10, and you can just put this between 0 and 1 and still get plenty of awesome distortion, at levels where you could (most probably) play whatever you want and still not wake up the person in the next room.
PEC 500k Dual Pot is the benchmark for a PPIMV. ;-)
Stock value in a non-master style Plexi is 220K, so a 250K pot with to 2.2meg resistors is better I feel. When the pot is dimed you're at stock Plexiglas values.
Does anybody know how to get that much gain from an amp with 68 lead specs? Are there any mods or pedals used? Thanks for your help. I want to get kind of sound from my JTM 45 hw. Cheers from Germany!
that amp haulz azz :)
DANTHETUBEMAN o
(Looks over at his $400 Badcat Unleash) Dude....wtf.....I should not have watched this ;)
LOL. The Unleash is still useful for a wet/dry rig.
Metropoulos Amplification Yeah it has a great look and I imagine I could get great tonez at 100w in my bedroom for the audience of the stuff animal dog my girlfiend keeps on the bed. Ahhhh groupies.
