One of the greatest prog rock bands ever. This gem is from 1975, what a sublime song. Don’t want to sound like an old grumpy but they don’t make bands like these anymore. It’s awesome we still have all this greatness to enjoy.
Back when Rock music was MUSIC! Supertramp was even more than that, they were more of a rock symphony. The 70's were filled with awesome musically-talented rock bands like Supertramp, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, ELO, Heart, Boston, Steve Miller Band, Kansas, The Eagles (w/Joe Walsh), etc. Forget about Disco - the 70's were the best years for ROCK!
I strongly agree. all those artists were fantastic. they don't have talents like that today. music went way down hill. and Disco, no way.... miss those days!
"Fool's Overture is one of my favorite pieces that I've ever written. It was very magical the way it came together. It was actually three separate pieces of music that I had for a few years and then, one day, they kind of all slotted together in what I think is a magnificent, kind of epic piece of music. I always imagined performing it with an orchestra, so when I did start playing with orchestras back in the '90s, it was such a thrill to play this song. I still get goosebumps to his day every time I get an opportunity perform it with an orchestra." ~Roger Hodgson
For real?? Is this you Rodger? What i know from 1975 is this bang up job of an album. The rich kid's thought they learned something 🤣 they didn't. They only came down to downtown 😀
I'm an older fellow, the covid shit has given me so much time to go back and rediscover all the great music from the 60's and especially the 70's. Supertramp were under rated. Still are.
I first started listen to SuperTramp band in 1975 ( Crime of the Century ) and I've been hooked ever since. "Even in the Quietest Moments" is sooo much a spiritual song. Definitely underrated British Rock group.
I’ve been to 2 of their concerts in the late 70’s in Moncton New Brunswick. Canada. Their music was as if you had the record on with headphones. Ultimate performers. Roger still tours and is fantastic. Keeping the music out there. My favourite group.
I listened to this as a little kid in the 1970’s and it absolutely captivated me back then, something about it could mean so many things to my young mind and I loved it. It had so many different tempos and seemed like an almost magical piece of music.
My boys just played it in the car on the way to a wedding, reminding them of earlier days when I made them listen to my stuff. My favourite Supertramp track.
@@Johnnywhamo i have not experienced it that way at all. Most people would say something from the Breakfast In America album or maybe School is their favourite. This song is very much undershadowed by the pop-culture pleasing "Give A Little Bit" on the same album
A masterpiece, and one of my all time favorite songs. If you were a Canadian in the late 70's, you would recognize this piece as the theme for CTV's news program called W5.
My favourite Supertramp record, and in my personal top 10. This is a fantastic live rendition, particularly the vocals, that matches the studio version - something most bands struggle to do. Brilliant!
You NEED a to see this live. Supertramp was my first ever concert…gawd, over 50 years ago, geez….to this day their music is epic. Thank you Roger for keeping my youth going…thank you Georg for posting this.
I was at a 1977 Supertramp concert in Milwaukee with my brother and a friend and we were 2nd row, stage right. We were right in front of Rick Davies. It was one of my most memorable moments of live performances of any kind! Such a talented group of musicians. "Fool's Overature" is such a powerful song and message about war. ✌😿❤
I was 10 when this came out on LP and sisters boyfriend bought it. Longest song i ever knew . Didnt realise how powerful it really was until the invention of decent over ear headphones and a decent Pioneer stereo. Laying in bed and being orally hypnotised by it . Truly wonderful music.
Lots of goosebumps listening to this... such a magically unique sound... brings me right back... I won this album from a local radio station... thank god it exposed me to this incredible band... and I soon went back in time to buy every album including "Indelibly Stamped" but when "Breakfast In America" was released I was seriously blown out of the water... One of my favorite bands of all time ...
@@Farkurnell I did enjoy Crisis? What Crisis? ... another one with creative album art and an interesting history... Now you are going to make me listen to it right now... lol... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisis%3F_What_Crisis%3F
I saw them August 5th 1979 at McMahon Stadium, Calgary .They were the best of the Concert tours of the summer ! Absolutely Fantastic !! I saw them next in BC Place Stadium, Vancouver on September 3, 1983 They were and are still one of my most treasured memories of my youth !!!
In 1977 was the first time I saw Supertramp (twice) in Montreal. And what an amazing experience it was! And now, Roger Hodgson was the last concert I saw in 2019 before the pandemic and have not seen anything since, what a drought but I love the memories!
I went to see these guys in the 70's at the Auditorium in Kitchener Ontario. It was the hottest day of the summer and were soaked by the time the show was over but we did not care as we had a great time and the music was awesome. Still listen to them all the time. Too bad they did not stay together just think how much more great music they could of made.
If (when!) Supertramp gets inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, let us hope that Roger Hodgson will put aside any differences he has with his former band-mates, and performs at least that once with them again.
I was 17 when I first saw Supertramp at the Kursaal Ballroom in Southend for the release of Crime of the Century. I was blown away! I bought the cassette and the next day drove down to Cornwall with my girlfriend playing and replaying it. Later I saw the Crisis What Crisis Tour then Breakfast in America. Mind blown! I still listen to these amazing tracks and they are just as fresh today as they were back then and would certainly stack up against any contemporary bands. Thanks guys, you are legends! Agreed?
I had the pleasure of seeing Supertramp back in 1975 on the "Crisis? What Crisis?" tour and they were absolutely brilliant - always stayed with me how good they were...and they are still one of my favourite bands even today
this is great i grew up with this and wow does this take me back in the years = thank u === i was 11 when this came out ==== this song was part of W5 on tv
How interesting. I've viewed just about every supertramp rendition of fool's overture. This is the best 👌 the history behind the song, for me, was military experience and how it reminds me just being a a teenager in the 70's 🙂 wish I saw this concert in person
Salud veteranos.
Saw them 3 times as Supertramp and Roger twice, never ever fails to satisfy. Roger is a very spiritual and humble person who draws you in to every song he performs.
This pianist has a great sound in my ear I hear like three places in his handiwork in the playing in the song very much a beautiful undisputed master of the piano.
Yes I saw the 2 shows at the CNE in Toronto in 83 and they were just epic with the hot summer weather and a capacity crowd… memories I cherish to this day

To my ear, in those years Supertramp and Genesis where on totally different level. Loved them both, still do.
It's from Autumn 1977
The bridge to this song was used as the theme for the Canadian current affairs TV show W5. It will be forever etched in my memory for that.
I was lucky enough to see them on the Breakfast in America tour. They were such a class act, their music will live on!
When I saw them live in Toronto back in the day I remember when after the line "let's go crazy" a bunch of characters came running out on stage.
"History recalls how great the fall will be..." No truer words. Look how far we've fallen
I am happy with the comments, and the reverence of those who like this fabulous band, it was the first LP I bought in my life🙏👍🏻

100% agree!

Don't forget the reggae muzac man.
You missed Emerson, Lake & Palmer
and the bands could write, read, and perform their music live.

Much of this music gives me "goosebumps," too - especially when performed w/an ochestra. It's empowering, having a positive effect on ones psyche.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I first heard this in the '80's So wonderful. Thank you Roger

very true
I don´t think they were under rated. They were sublime back then and many people know that.
They aren't in the Rock n Roll of Fame. Thus under rated and at least unappreciated.
I first started listen to SuperTramp band in 1975 ( Crime of the Century ) and I've been hooked ever since. "Even in the Quietest Moments" is sooo much a spiritual song. Definitely underrated British Rock group.
I fully discovered people like pink Floyd and supertramp just because of lockdown

One of those lost masterpieces in rock history.
A great track, an almost underrated track, but a masterpiece nonetheless - and oh it brings back so many happy memories. A fantastic band.
How is it in anyway underrated? It's one of their most popular songs and near anyone that knows Supertramp would site it as one of their favorites.

Loved following the evolution of this song.
Roger Hodgson’s pipes. The symphonic melodies. The crazy overlays. The sheer drama of it all. Every hair on my skin stood up in speechless awe.

Supertramp is the best. It’s a musical experience I’ve enjoyed for 40 years.

This music was in regular radio and topped charts. Old amazing times !
1973-1982 consistent Success during that time with 2 masterpiece Albums: Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America!!!

I was at Wembley in 1977. One of the most exceptional concerts of my life. Has never left me! ❤️

Im 64yrs and still today l enjoy listening to the music of Supertramp. That was music not like some of the music today. Long live Supertramp
This was my favorite Supertramp tour.
Unvergesslich!!!
Supertramp. Les Mozart du 20eme siècle.
Musique élaborée emballante. Quasi symphonique.

A timeless classic which surpasses later versions, such musicianship, even Dougie Thompson pulsating bass brought a lump to the throat.
