During the long layoff by the group between 1987 and 1997, John Helliwell said he went back to school to learn how to play the saxophone. While there, he said many of the students were attending the class because of his saxophone playing on Supertramp.
The five of them were all great musicians who just had enormous chemistry together when they were at their best. Will always be my all time favourite band. I’ll listen to their music until the day I leave this earth.
Volker Arnz especially with hindsight looking at Hodgsons solo career, he thought he was gonna rip it up on his own but got his eye wiped. It was a complete travesty that they split. You only have to listen to the middle part of this song ( wah pedal guitar and piano riffs combined) to hear how great they were together.

A prerequisite for timeless music is great percussion. Rick was primarily a drummer. He moved to piano later on. But he is really dueling it out with the drummer. 100%. Best backing support player money can buy.
What is amazing is how Rick started off as a great drummer. He let it out recently that, as a youngster, he once got a job as an organ player and had to fake it.

That “Roger guy” collaborated on some of the most incredible music for nearly 15 to 20 years WITH RICK. Please don’t discount Roger without Rick! And don’t discount Rick without Roger! Just enjoy the collaboration my friend. 😉

I agree with Your comments , both of them were amazing , but it is very depressing to read several negative , and stupid comments where Roger' fans ignore everything which is does not belong to Roger guy. They should accept Rick role in this amazing band , and his several fantastic songs , as we do it in case of Roger's song , and they should understand that everything began with Roger's ego when he left this band in order to start his solo carrier. ( with less success )

I was fortunate enough to see Supertramp TWICE. I saw them play on this tour in 1977 in Milwaukee. I was sitting 2nd row, right in front of Rick Davies! Phenomenal concert!! Ty for uploading this! 💙💙
There were many more live versions at one time and Rick never played their interludes the same way. This Rick fellow here was the biggest factor in Supertramp putting out so many great accomplishments.

Was this recorded at Queen Mary College in London? If so, I can hardly believe that I used to drink in this very building every Friday without ever knowing that Supertramp had played there, let alone this material. The staff bar at what is now QMUL is located in the top floor of the same building where I reckon Supertramp must have played.

Quand je revois le concert le Simon & Garfunkel à Central Park s'est carrément pire, y'a aucun éclairage ni effet de scène. Pourtant je dirais que c'est les deux meilleures concerts de tous les temps arf.
