My father told me a story about this song a few years ago. He said Darlene Love was a stand in for a singer who at the last minute was ill. The band was going to be in the area of Phil Spector's studio for a short time so they asked Darlene Love if she could sing the song with the band. She said yes and everyone was sold on the first rendition! She has always been a great talent. David Letterman would have her sing her xmas song every year on his show to open the season. Now she is singing that xmas song on The View every year. I've always loved her voice even though she's from my parents generation. I prefer her version because her voice is love and beauty just as she is a lady!
