  • This 12 inch tom is from a kit that was abused and stored in a damp basement. The kit was in TERRIBLE shape but turned out nicely after restoration.

Great job. I’ve restored a lot of old drums over the years and the foil/WD40 is a great tip. There’s nothing more satisfying than playing a kit that you’ve personally restored. Greetings from New Zealand.

Nice job. Years ago, I restored an old 5-piece Gretsch drum kit. Took me forever to do it but the results were rewarding.

Very old school tip,, smear a little Vaseline on the ends of the tension rods. They will make tuning nice and smooth without any rust build up.

I never tried windex? Do you think that would clean up on painted drums? I have heard of aluminum foil on hardwood but haven’t tried with WD-40? Great idea! I’m just researching how to clean up my drums. Mine aren’t nearly bad as this drum! Thanks for the advice!

@@dzl8596 Nope. I am now using Sprayway amonia-free glass cleaner and microfiber rags. No paper towels. Works well for me.

A very old PDP? The name PDP has probably only been around for the past 20 years or so. As far as drums go, I wouldn't put this in the "very old" category.

You can age a drum Mighty fast if you abuse it and store it in a non-climate-controlled basement with water on the floor. The drums were a basket case when I got them
