Look Back is definitely my favorite movie of 2024. As an artist, it really speaked to me on the struggles a lot of us artists face and made me reflect on why I do art. Any aspiring artist/creator needs to see this movie.
At first I expected Inside Out 2 to be one of those Pixar sequels that would force me to write a video essay about how it was a betrayal to its predecessor since I’m a HUGE fan of Inside Out. But lo and behold, Pixar made a sequel that’s one of their best since Toy Story 3.
I’ve been enamoured with Look Back since the original one shot came out and the movie was everything I could have possibly hoped for and more. I pray the critical acclaim and commercial success emboldens a studio to take a chance on adapting Goodbye Eri as well. It’s perhaps not as gut wrenchingly sad as Look Back but its presentation, themes and ending are just so beautiful and gratifying. And anyone who’s read it just knows it’s made for the big screen.
The fact that Look Back is one of my favourite films of the entire year at its only 58 minute run time is an unbelievable accomplishment, it absolutely deserves all the recognition it’s been getting. Still want to watch Flow and Memoir of a Snail, I’ll get to them eventually.
