I remember My Grandfather telling me he drove a Steam Lorry and after the Great War (1914-1918) which he fought in, a Petrol engine Tanker delivering to Garages in the early 20's I don't suppose Steam and "Petrol Lorry" would have been a happy marriage !
I love steam vehicles. May swap my car for one or just build one with some help. I'm never in a hurry to get to places, 3 bags of coal is cheaper than 3 gallons of petrol in the UK and with modern metals if built from scratch 25hp would see you doing 70mph at least.
compressed air is the way to go I have a design for a engine that powers it self a few cylinders act as compressors and the other ones run the engine and car
camerl2009 well done you... you should get it built, then either copyright it and place it into a car of your own build and set yourself up as a company putting a new engine into motoring and possibly earning millions or sell the engine to a car company and tell them for every car they sell with the engine in it, you'll be wanting 5% of the price of the cars. if they ask why just say, so that you can use the money to find a way to make the engine even more efficient (more power from better placed components and more air compression from the parts that make the compressed air)... however i would have to ask you to do one thing for it and that would be put a system on it that uses a solar panel in the roof to activate a small motor that compresses a bit of air so that its easy to start up each time, because i know a fair bit about how much of a pain in the ass it is to get a car moving without its engine being on while trying to get it to do a rolling start. i basically pushed my first car into a lamp post about half a mile from the start of the rolling start... it started with my friend behind the wheel, and then a hill came and the car over revved and shot into the lamp post.
The apex of steam was actually the Doble.

Wonderful, but it is a pity that there was no Doble in this video
Love all types of steam power cars, ships, railways, motorbikes, they are the best and most fun to use.

Two of them used to be up the road from me. Remarkable machines.
