Jalan Alor is a good start for foreigners to try different varieties of Malaysian food(or Thai). We locals don't go there because we know where to get better food at cheaper price.
Dear Flora and Note, you guys are each a really Lovable person, and when two of you are together, the banter and chemistry is absolutely alluring. You guys have the x Factor. May, from Singapore.
I'm so glad this channel is growing so well, great to see a channel get the recognition they deserve. Can't wait to see where this channel goes from here.
'Paku choi' or in Malay called 'paku-pakis' is basically ferns or wild ferns. Usually the locals will just pick them from any nearby forest or some even from their own backyard, especially after it had rained because I'm told they're the freshest and the crunchiest. You can cook it in so many ways. Stir fried with belacan (shrimp paste), with garlic and oyster sauce but my favorite would be pickled paku choi. One can never starve along Alor lane because there's just too many eateries to choose from. Can't wait for your next food adventure video. Stay safe you two and sawatdeekrup 🙏
@@boonkitkeong3268 I learned that paku and midin have their differences? Or perhaps my Sarawakian friend could have mistaken or I heard wrongly. But they're both delicious.
If you were told not to go to a place by tourist agents, it is most likely because those people are paid (by certain business institutions) to bring tourists to places where these institutions have small and medium businesses going on. Places like above especially in Kuala Lumpur are actually safe places for tourists because it is in the heart of Malaysia (capital) and has at least 80 years of history behind them. The streets are old, the buildings are old and full of history and culture, the people there had been working there for decades and you can find a lot of things here which will define Malaysia. Also when in doubt, go to the nearest police station and ask them where are the best and safest place for tourists (especially those who are walking around alone).
This is a must visit place for foodies and tourists when in KL. Its better to go for dinner and preferably after dark. Gone were the days where people used to accuse this place as a tourist slaughter house as nowadays most food stalls and restaurants will exhibit their menu and pricing upfront, and the stiff competition has stabilised the prices there too. Moreover, food operators now know the power of social media and are aware of the consequences if any foul play is applied. So go visit Jalan Alor the food haven street without fear or prejudice! Cheers.✌️

@@H.WitcherIt’s actually a type of wild fern known as paku pakis in the Malay language. It’s a very local dish and usually cooked with fermented shrimp paste (belacan), as shown in the video.
It is not recommended for local food but they have lots of foods around Asia. Why its not recommended for local food? Well price wise for example, just take a look at how much it cost you for simple local snack of Pisang Goreng... then go to other places and compare the price. It not like the banana sold in Jalan Alor was from a farm that is not local, nor the butter was made of gold either, but the price difference is ridiculous. The vendor at Jalan Alor just raise the price taking advantage of tourist buying power. Yes it is OK considering location wise ONLY IF the rental for the stalls there was higher than other places but in reality, the rental cost difference is around 50% higher while their price is 300% higher.
You can try Wong Ah Wah (WAW) the restaurant behind you when you taking photo with your fans. The shop serves wonderful chinese food and a lot celebrity from Hongkong and taiwan went there for dining, include Jay chao

Don't forget about our most famous street food the Ramly Burger. There's a lot of stall scattered all over KL and one of the best is located at the end of Jalan Alor which is called Burger Boss😷😁😷
@@FloraandNote This burger uses local pate, many layers of stuff and full of sauces. It may not suit western palate but some people love it. If you don't like too much gravy, ask for less sauce. Eat it with the wrapper to hold the burger instead of taking it out. Many westerners take out the burger from wrapper and get a mess of gravy and pieces falling all over the place.
@11:10 You guys hardly touched your rice! I suppose that's how you avoid being overweight with the quantities of Malaysian food you guys are trying. XD. Great video. I have visit that street again soon with my family.
This place mostly for tourist. Local seldom go unless one particular food they fancy. Fried durians started just a few years ago. Malaysian Durians are more flavourful, more aromatic and stronger in taste and smell. Unlike the Thai Monthong or Chaney which is light in flavour and not strong smell. Kaya is a local caramelized jam(not coconut) made from eggs, coconut milk, palm sugar mix and steamed with pandan leaves/juice for aromatics. You also have in Hatyai.
They should know this fact: thais harvest their durian half ripe. We let them fall onto nets or ground. Eating matured durians is better than eating hard half ripe durians. Musang king - the best in the world.
Err ..hope you do not mind me correcting the info on the kaya jam. It is not just caramel. Authentic kaya actually has got coconut milk as one of its ingredients. But as usual the commercial/factory produced type will be using much lesser coconut milk (expensive) or not surprising, using artificial flavor instead. Having said so, there are still sellers (usually small businesses) that are passionate about cooking, that sell real good kaya.
You guys were very near to a burger stall at one end of jalan Alor, many youtubers went there for Malaysia's popular Ramly Burger which that stall (Burger Boss) known. Even if you order the most expensive ones they're not more than RM 10, very likely around RM 7- 8 per burger even at different places. Judging from the meal you guys had, there's no room for a burger for sure. For Chinese selections, you can go to ICC Pudu around 9am on weekdays, weekends are jam packed so don't go and majority of the stalls are closing anytime after 12 noon depends on whether they still have ingredients availability and you guys will be at home as Cantonese are mostly used. FYI, Besides food, there's nothing much there to see.
Jalan Alor is a good start for foreigners to try different varieties of Malaysian food(or Thai). We locals don't go there because we know where to get better food at cheaper price.

We had some roti canai for breakfast the other day and we’re hooked!
Amazing food video 😍
If kangkung means water spinach.. it's one of my favourite veges..
For more delicious and reasonable price local foods and delicious please find in Kampong Baru nearby Hospital Kuala Lumpur.. not far from the Petronas KLCC Twin Towers..😊
Paku pakis.
My favorite shop will be end of the road Wong Ah Wah. You will never regret the great foods.
It's true. I will often tell foreigners don't bother with Jalan Alor.
Paku Choy is from the Malay name, sayur paku, which is a type of fern.
Don't forget about our most famous street food the Ramly Burger. There's a lot of stall scattered all over KL and one of the best is located at the end of Jalan Alor which is called Burger Boss😷😁😷
We’ve always wanted to know what’s special about Ramly Burger? We noticed a lot of people mentioning it 😊
@@FloraandNote This burger uses local pate, many layers of stuff and full of sauces. It may not suit western palate but some people love it. If you don't like too much gravy, ask for less sauce.
Eat it with the wrapper to hold the burger instead of taking it out. Many westerners take out the burger from wrapper and get a mess of gravy and pieces falling all over the place.
Hello Flora n Note... nice to see you visiting Malaysia... it's amazing isn't it... There's lots of hidden eateries... Have a great time hunting 🙏🤣💖
We really love it here 😊

Durian in season now? Im going to KL in a month. Let me know. Thanks. When was this video made?
Just a little over two weeks ago 😊
It is dude. Better hurry.
yeah Meng Kee is the best on that row 😍😍
Visit lot 10 for the cendol musang king
Stop It You Two!!! Haha. 😍YYUUMMMMMYYYYYY
usually the fruits that get fried is super ripe fruits. If they're a little under they're not as good (personal opinion)
@11:10 You guys hardly touched your rice! I suppose that's how you avoid being overweight with the quantities of Malaysian food you guys are trying. XD. Great video. I have visit that street again soon with my family.
Haha that's exactly why..rice takes up too much space 😅 Have to eat the expensive stuff first!
Thanks for the tips! We’ll have to come back to check out some of those places 😊
the vege is damn good choice malaysian local favoutite good choice guys enjoy
