My Grandfather was a Catch wrestler, he told me that true martial arts have no time limits, no titles and belts, only hard training, unlimited knowledge and principles, and desire to learn.
He certainly is, very methodical like the guys back in the day. All about the detail

"They're all passed away but they're not dead cause they live on in me, everyone they worked with and everybody I give the fire to"❤️🔥 wow! Thank you for sharing and keeping Catch as catch can wrestling alive for all of us!
I came across a BJJ instructional video that was teaching the crucifix. I looked a little further and there's dozens of "BJJ Crucifix" videos. I replied to one of them that I learned the crucifix at my AAU wrestling club in Tampa in the 60s and it was taught by my coach who learned it while wrestling in high school and college in Philadelphia in the 1930s from his coaches, catch wrestlers who had been in the sport since the late 1800s Through that same coach, I did get to meet and learn from Billy Robinson, Karl Gotch and Ted Heath (also from Wigan) but not nearly as much as I wish I had. This video is really well produced. Thank you for keeping Catch as Catch Can alive. (I'm still kicking myself for not stopping at Wigan the last time I was in the UK. At the time I had no idea the school was still going)
I would like to thank Roy Wood, Andrea Wood, and everyone else involved very much for making this new series starting off with Josh Barnett as a special guest! I hope Matsunami Osamu of Riley's Gym Kyoto can join in on a future episode!
I'm glad catch wrestling and The Snake Pit are making such a comeback, every combat sports fan should be, there's so much potential with all of CACC's children (freestyle, American folkstyle, luta livre, MMA, and even BJJ)
I got to meet Billy Robinson one time. He was doing a private lesson at the nearby Air Force base. I was taking a piss in the locker room, and he came in to do the same. "Don't ever get old, lad," he said as he entered. Now I'm 40, and I understand what he meant.
@@standardm4tt Would be a pretty loose turtle. I'd like to think they wouldn't get their arm in. I'll def be trying when my opponent slips up and lets me in.
Yes no problem at all, we always welcome new faces. It will be a 3hr workshop, We will be releasing our full calendar in the new year, but as a spoiler....this turtle one will be 19th Jan. Be great to see you there

Great post., learn something new - west point ride /chest cradle @8.50 . Ouch ! Also liked billy Robinson's version of the guillotine - the grovit ! Simple setups, and great techniques which are bluddy painful!

question: whats the reason this style seems unable to win at the highest levels of grappling tournaments against bjj or judo stye opponents? is it the different positional strategies or how the submissions work? could a modern catch person win ADCC?
Thanks for the question, there a multitude of answers to that. The Catch we teach doesn't include chokes as chokes weren't allowed in original catch taught by Billy Riley. Some modern day catch gyms have adapted chokes in to their style but we wanted to keep it authentic. Catch itself has already shown to be effective and dominant against BJJ. The problem being not many people compete as a "catch wrestler". We never want to get in to which is better, BJJ has its own place as does catch. We have students who compete in BJJ tournaments who execute and win matches with catch techniques. We just want to teach and spread catch as much as possible
We find that the pin, combined with no chokes (as it was at Rileys gym) makes the matches in our tournaments fast paced and exciting. Some won't agree with it but that's ok. Thanks for watching the content 👍🏼
Short answer is no they cant win adcc, main reason being just like gi jiu jitsu purists, catch folk seem convinced that catch is the greatest and want to prove it by sticking to out dated stuff. Modern nogi jiu jitsu is all about taking all the best stuff from all grappling styles and eliminating the clunky bullcrap. If you arent with the times your going to have a hard time beating the top dogs. I doubt the top catch guy out there could even win adcc trials.

This is so incredible. Seeing Barnett at the Mecca of it all. This being documented is incredible.
We have loads more awesome footage to come 👍🏼
@ thank you for this. Hopefully one day I can come out there and learn some catch. 🙏

Love to see my Coach and head of Snakepit USA on one of these, Coach Joel Bane. He has an encyclopaedia of CACC knowledge in his brain

The slide by was the only takedown I was good at in high school.
Not a single leg?
He's referring to that baseball slide of an arm drag Garcia uses. A Billy Robinson special
It's great to see these things make it round the world from what started under Billy Riley

Prescott? That's the Shuck Josh .
100% there is no new technique, it’s all been done before. Entry evolves though.
Everytime I did grappling... I close my eyes. Is this bad? I just go with feeling.
no if you think thank you need to see it means you think you need to think. but if you think then you are slow. if you react then you are fast.
No my dude it’s the same as the ancient art of Bukkake all the masters close their eyes.
