When I was a kid, living in Florida, the local fishers on the pier helped me a lot. I use to catch all kinds of wild stuff like stingrays, crabs, sharks, blow fish… They watched out for me to make sure I didn’t get hurt.
I always use sand fleas for surf fishing in California. The trick I've found is to actually use a light slip sinker and Carolina rig with a 1/0 octopus hook. Then kinda let the sand flea and the whole rig roll with the waves. It's a more natural presentation. Those fish are real close to shore pecking off sand fleas as the waves drag them out.
Hey First State! I live in Va. Beach,VA and I've found out for over 50 years of fishing that every fish here loves Bloodworms. I know they've gotten more expensive over the years but they are a "go-to" bait, for me. Just a suggestion. That Static Seasoning might be the ticket for me also-it looks good.
YAY got my seasonings! tried some before slapping them on my mussels with cream cheese. Got the Cajun one! haven't ate it yet but it's in the oven. also will be adding a side of garlic and herb Pasta Roni.
When fishing in South Africa, you want colour in the water. Days when the water is crystal clear, it means the water is cold, wind direction is wrong and fishing is generally tough
Great video you should try throwing the artificial Berkeley gulp sand flea works really good for surf fishing here in Southern California. You should pick up a pack and try it.
Man, I tried fishing last week right before Hilary came through at 4 different piers and all I caught were some small fish on Sebiki rigs. They weren’t biting on shrimp, squid, or cut bait. Just crabs.
Get a cast net small enough for bait fish. Catch what bait fish are in the area you are fishing (match the hatch) experiment with placement in the water column. A carolina rig in grass flats...knocker rig around bridge pilings...popping cork etc. Find what works for you. My favorite is the carolina rig with 3 feet of 20lb fluorocarbon leader and twice the rod length of shock leader. A small croaker is awfully hard for fish to pass up. Use smaller sized bait. A fish that's not hungry is most likely to bite a small bait fish...just like you and I will eat a small potato chip even after we just ate a big cheeseburger.
Have you ever tried fishing for saltwater gar? They are a fish that most fishermen hate, but when I was in the Mid East I had great fun catching them. If you get a half-decent-sized one on a hook they really take off standing on their tails. And again because of their looks nobody ever eats them.
Get a 3.5 gallon bucket from Walmart and cut narrow slots all around the bucket with a Dremel and dig in the sand for the fleas with that. Once you get it about half full just stand in the surf and sift the sand out of the bucket through the slots
@@941_fishing_official I don’t know where you are but around SC those small sand flea rakes start around $70 the large ones are closer to $100. I’ve had the same $3 bucket for 15 years and it works just fine.
@@bokettom damn💀I live near boca grande FL. I was at the sportsman wholesale yesterday and I saw one for $20 that was like 12” wide and a $80 one that was like 2ft wide 😂
In North Carolina we call them sand pigs *some of us do* not all of us call them that ps. They are cute when you see a brand new baby one and btw if you flip one over where their eggs are aka the orange stuff you can lift up a plate and look at the eggs better
Dude one thing I learned in life from liking cars is don't cheap out on car parts and don't cheap out on tools look at it this way one quality purchase of a tool and you'll always have the tool for later use in the future
Sand fleas are also great for catching big whiting off the beach but it's more easier to catch the Sand fleas putting your hands together like a shovel
Haha I grew up in Delaware for a few years (most my life in Cali) and I was hoping you called them Sand Crabs when you said you were from Delaware!! So cool you did
I use them for striped bass and anything else that bites lmao. I recommend hooking the crabs through the pointy almost shell like price of the crab the is above the orange eggs. By doing that you disable the sand crab from digging back into the sand
What part of florida have you been fishing in these recent videos? I’ve lived down here for 2 years in the gulf coast from the north east of states and just got back into fishing and have never fished the surf.
Take a piece of fish or chicken skin and peg it into the sand (just be careful the waves to wash it away) wait about 60 second and then there will be hundreds flocking to eat the bait. Makes them really easy to catch.
I remember one of the first vids I watched of yours. You were cooking with hot Cheetos. Now you have your own seasoning blend. You’re killing it, man. Nice job!
Chef first state has upgraded his game 1 South per cent since the very first video he ever came out with I'm very proud of chef first state . Chef first state is one of the greatest chefs evers thanks for sharing your content we love watching your videos signing out chef juicy burgers
Love the vids firststate. By the way, what ultralight reel do you recommend for freshwater? I broke my old one three weeks ago and my replacement broke today, so I need a recommendation for a good one.
Pflueger presidents reels are nice for the price. A lot more expensive ones out there but those are more well known like the stradics and stuff. Doubt your looking at those.
I swear by shrimp when surf fishing, but my dad claims squid is the best. We're planning on a fishing challenge to see who catches more fish with which bait later this month.
The orange stuff is actually their eggs if there orange that means there in fertleized but if you see that there black I wouldn’t recommend keeping them
Sand crabs. Sand fleas are different. People call sand crabs sand fleas, but a sand flea is a different animal. Sand fleas bite and if you’ve ever been to a beach in New Jersey you know what sand fleas feel like when they bite. Sometimes you get sand fleas and horses flys biting at the same time.
What is your go-to bait?? 🤔🎣 If you want to try Spicy Static Seasoning: www.staticseasoning.com ⚡
Senkos never fail
Try those with your pompano rig. I heard pompano like sandfleas
for ocean stuff its gotta be squid
sand eel
Have you ever caught the same fish that you caught previously?
When I was a kid, living in Florida, the local fishers on the pier helped me a lot. I use to catch all kinds of wild stuff like stingrays, crabs, sharks, blow fish… They watched out for me to make sure I didn’t get hurt.

@@RobloxDemon-zf1yjSure is lmao
It’s nice to know people will look out for you

I got your Static spice and it is bomb! I had it on catfish and accented by putting it on okra too. Very good brother!
Have to say, ever since the bloodworms became hard to get, the lug worms have been a phenomenal pick

I’ll have to try that out, I’m rarely successful saltwater. VB freshwater fishermen here.
Neighboring city but I'm new to fishing and go to VB for it so thank you
bloodworm fishbites work well too. not quite as good as the real thing but they catch
Big fan of the sand flea fishbite combo. Fresh live and durable!
My favorite bait is shrimp too
Bro firststate you are literally the best RUclipsr ever! I am so happy whenever you post keep up the good work man! Love your vids!!
If you want help finding the sand fleas I suggest east coast of Florida near Cocoa Beach I find them there often.
Hey dude, Sand flea rakes are really easy to make, might be worth making a video on it.
YAY got my seasonings! tried some before slapping them on my mussels with cream cheese. Got the Cajun one! haven't ate it yet but it's in the oven. also will be adding a side of garlic and herb Pasta Roni.

You can drill small holes at the of the bucket and use it dig them out.
U are one of my favorite RUclipsrs I wanna do what your doing when I’m growing up

If you hold the line with your pointer finger it is easier to feel the bite.
I do alittle similar I lay line across finger. If I'm working a lure I grab with thumb and index as I reel to feel the bite. 😊

i think it would be easier to go get a $20 sandflea rake at the bait shop

I look for soft shell ones and hook them where they come off the top shell
In England we use black lug worm for bass from the beach
Browns Creek Fish Camp is where I buy live sand fleas when I can’t catch any. :) Pompano love this stuff.
New to your vids. Really have me wanting to try surf fishing. I normally prefer live sardines.

You should try out ghost shrimp. Heard it’s really good for catching pomps in FL
Excited for my static to be home!!!!
You can tried a compound butter mix whit Static sessoning. 🤤🤤🤤
If you’re still in Jax go to Ricks bait shop by Jax beach, they got the rakes ther for like 20 bucks
DIY sand flea bucket drill holes like it’s a rake
Hey wondering when your doing Delaware creek/pond fishing?
Hey I have a video idea. Catch sand fleas and use them for bait in fresh water. Lake or pond. I wonder if they’ll produce some fish.
The orange stuff on the sand fleas are eggs
Another great video bud never heard of sand fleas
my favorite bait for surf fishing is cut Mullet
Love your videos, keep it up. you should try using soft shell crab for bait
good fishing and eating man. Put that filet with a wrap, add chopped tomatoes, cilantro and onions, and touch of lime... oo la la.. :)

Oddly, whenever i use bait it just gets picked apart by pinfish on me. I usually do my best using lures and artificials.
In California we would catch them but we called them sand crabs.
Where can I get merch?
So far your my favorite youtuber
You have a great opportunity to create a cheap DIY sand flea catching device!
The biggest sand flees I have seen are in San Diego: they are MASSIVE. I couldn’t believe how big they were when we were catching them
Side note. North Wilmington De watching here.
Saw someone in another vid in a Emilia Island Bait Shop hat, enjoying it there?
Can't say as I have ever had much luck with them compared to other baits. But they are free.
Great bait bro sand fleas is super even for pompanos
Blood worms... i catch alot of spots and croackers in Nj always on a sabiki rig
I swear by shrimp when surf fishing, but my dad claims squid is the best. We're planning on a fishing challenge to see who catches more fish with which bait later this month.
Wow I missed first again but once again great vid can’t wait to see what comes next
Do a double or even triple dropper/Pompano rig. Increase your chances!
Love your videos
I was born and raised in Tampa and never heard of sand fleas until I was on my 50's
We need some more camper though
Yo I love your channel man keep up the good work
I would of used the little fish for bait. Save on the mole crabs. 😊
Sand flea rake is definitely worth the money
Who loves going first state station uploads
The orange stuff is actually their eggs if there orange that means there in fertleized but if you see that there black I wouldn’t recommend keeping them
I've tried them here in Oregon on the beach, sand shrimp out fishes them everytime. But they are free.
Or I love using fresh mussels.
Get a cheap Spheghetti strainer and use that to catch them
When you get those crazy fast bites. YOU HAVE TO REEL
Dude all you need is a bucket with some holes on the bottom to drain the sand but not big enough for the sand flees to go through
That was a pig fish brother the small ones are awesome black drum bait
You can just get a cat litter scoop to catch them too bud!
I used bacon one time and doubted it an the. I caught a nice bluefish on it
If you're using your hands a kitty litter sifter/scoop would work
love your vids
Means a lot thank you
Put some holes in your bucket and use that as a scoop
Do you live at the beach?
How long is your fishing pole?
Love the vids
Appreciate ya!
WWWWW love this also got some static
What the reel do you use
That t shaped thing way out, is that an oil rig?
Nice catch and cook Mike!

Look for ones with eggs, fish hit hard on those 😁 Also u were right it was a pig
I caught a big old redfish with a sand flea

I try to release the ones with orange stuff. That is their eggs.
Try surf fishing with live finger mullet
What rod and reel is that?!?!
let me know when he replies bro !
yo I believe the reel name is PENN Battle III , probally the 10000 size medium heavy for ocean fishing .
I love ur vids❤
Thanks!!
cheap alternative that may or may not break on you. a kitty litter scoop has served me well in a pinch instead of the proper rake.
Go thru the bottom and out the top of the shell.
