Great information for the average middle class homeowner with a budget! Awesome job.

That was the whole point I made this. You dont need tons of money to get started in your own garage.

So wait, you're telling me I don't have to buy a new low RPM mitre saw _and_ I get to make cool sparks?
Why has nobody mentioned grinder saws before? Everyone on Google mentions carbide blades and low RPM mitre saws (like anyone has one of those)

Good, informative video but I do wish you showed the cut quality on the piece you just demo'd. Thanks for the upload.

An easy way with almost any saw is that the arbor bolt turns the same way the blade cuts to loosen it

Get a Diablo Steel Demon blade, much faster no sparks.. they're a bit pricey but worth it.
With that being said i have an old Makita miter saw that's going to be for metal and i was cheap and got the grinding wheel BUT i have the steel demon setup in a circular saw and it cuts nice

  •  3 года назад +5

That's ok if you don't care about lifetime of the saw. But if you do, this is the worst thing you can do. Carbide from cutting is flying all over the place (including the bearing on the saw) and will do damage over the time. There are already carbide-toothed blades on the market for clean steel cutting. But of course they are not as cheap as grinding wheels.

They are also no designed for the speed which a typical miter saw spins.

Whatever, I bought my mitre saw used on Kijiji for *cheap*
I really have no mercy for my saw

I do like this but 1. Can you show what level of precision miter cuts it can make in different stock? Especially compound miter...IE if you need to notch a square tube with 2 45’s to be able to bend a 90... and 2. Should there be some disclaimer about plastic parts? Most chop saws are all metal, and if you cut long enough and sparks hit a piece of plastic on your wood saw that part will melt...even just deforming your slotted plate would knock it out of true, but maybe a high heat paint could counteract? Would be interesting to test.

Yeah I'd like to see a laser line cut with one of these grinder saws.
I need to do bevel cuts on a 6mm sheet of steel. So I can't have wildly inaccurate cuts.
I'm trying to make hubs for a Geodesic Greenhouse

Don't want to sound like a safety Susan but the first thing you should of fabricated is a better disc guard..if that disc lets go that plastic will be deadly even if the disc fragments miss you, cut off saws have a heavy steel guard for a reason!

My 2-stroke homelite XL98 14inch chopsaw had an old cast iron gaurd on it and the 1 and only time I got to use it I had a abrasive disc explode full throttle and the cast iron gaurd just blew apart like it was plastic. And that my friends is why my chopsaw is now a mini bike!!!

I'm glad someone else realizes this. I had a 2-stroke homelite XL98 cut off saw with a cast iron blade gaurd on it. The first time I used it 8 blew apart a 14inch abrasive disk while I had it held wide open and the blade gaurd just blew apart like cheap plastic. More like exploded actually.

I am going to use a wet-dry tile saw. 4.5 inch. Can I run the water? Any other concerns? Thanks for the video too.

Check the rpm. The grinder blade will list a max rpm, as long as you are under that rated rpm you are good to go.

I am in this situation right now, do I use my one year old expensive compound miter saw to cut the 3/8" flat bar and 1/16" square tubing with correct wheel or buy the right tool for the task? I'm leaning this way since it's not a lot of cuts but I love this miter that I just bought and it would kill me to ruin. Decisions decisions

So I thought I would add this for all, as I mentioned prior I have a project that requires cutting mild steel so after watching this dig deeper into wheels for my miter saw. I went on harbor freight to see if I could get something inexpensive for this task and saw they have a Hercules 14” chop saw that uses a 15A 4,100 rpm motor. Then noticed their 12” miter saw listing a 15A motor so dug into specs and to my surprise it also has 4,100 rpm and psychically looks identical to the chop saw motor, which I am guessing is the same. The Hercules metal blade is rated at 4,365 so just did a quick check of miter saws; DeWalt spins at 3,800, Rigid 4,000, a Bosch 3,800, etc. I no longer have any worries about using my item saw with a metal cutting blade as this video points out for my one of project.
      Thank you for posting this!

That gas can with all those sparks is kinda dangerous

    • @uncletoy774
      @uncletoy774 3 года назад

solomon storment uuuummmm...ya not likely. i think you need to go back to safety troll school and maybe take some refresher courses. if those containers had gas in them the spark would: 1. need the correct air to fuel mixture to even ignite. which is almost impossible that why their called containers. 2. melt through the plastic fully while still remaining white hot fall into the space unoccupied by gas fluid, hover waiting for air to somehow rush into space through the whole left by spark. mix to correct mixture then ignite. i mean really like that's gonna happen. so in conclusion that there is even a distant chance of that happening is ludicrous

I though you shouldn't use grinding wheels for cutting because they can snag on the side of materials and shatter.
