Thank you for capturing my city. I stay away from the downtown area and the southside of Atlanta b/c of high crime rates. The northern suburbs of Atlanta are beautiful.
Hello Traveling Robert🎉🎉🎉🍔🍔🍗🍗🍕🍕🍦🍦🎷🎷🎸🎸, this was an absolutely awesome video. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the sites of Atlanta...especially the aspects of Martin Luther King,Jr. and Stone Mountain Park. I loved all of this! Robert, this was so amazing. Looking forward to seeing what's next😊😊.
Lifetime resident of Atlanta area. I avoid downtown as much as possible. In the 1960’s people could drive their cars up Stone Mountain. I know the park is centrally located but we have amazing state parks with great camping as well.
I don’t know because I’ve been out of Atlanta for years but I think you confused Westside Park with Piedmont park, Piedmont park is the one with an awesome view of downtown. Great presentation as usual.
Westside park is brand new, and now the largest park in Atlanta just open about a year or two ago. They are not finished with the park either. Also the park it's located near the proposed site of Microsoft Campus.
I used to work in downtown ATL straight out of high school in the early 70’s…it was awesome…so much activity, huge dept stores, shops, great restaurants. There were always “a few” homeless but it was safe. Got married soon thereafter & moved 1-1/2 hrs south of ATL but have been back many times to visit relatives in north GA mountains & Acworth. Love Inman Park & The Highlands, West Paces Ferry…but honestly would not want to live anywhere near ATL…don’t like the congestion & traffic anymore. I go thru ATL only if I have to.
The traffic is just awful. Suburban Atlantans won't give up their cars and are terrified of expanding public transportation. It will only get worse. As for crime, compare to other major cities. Atlanta isn't even close to the top ten, bad as it is.
My wife and I love your videos and try to visit all the places you go. Just one suggestion I think since the vast majority of RVers as well as RV Vlogers are husband and wife it would be heart warming and great if your viewers could see more of your lovely wife Ellie along side with you in your videos participating in your travel adventures when she is traveling with you. I think we all enjoyed seeing your sweet mom in some of your videos and we hope to see more of Ellie. We love you guys and safe travels.
Atlanta in the winter. Loved the Capital building, it's definitely southern style. The Victorian homes, I love these homes. And Stone mountain, I would of loved to hike it. Martin Luther King memorial was the tops. You are very detailed and well educated in your videos. Your the best Robert!
When we lived in Florida our favorite vacation spot was Stone Mountain and we camped (tent) there a few times and also stayed in the motel. Thanks for sharing the hike up the mountain. I had to chuckle at your comment about Mt. Monadnock because I grew up in the shadow of that special mountain and climbed it often. Yes, the Stone Mountain trail is nothing compared to nearing the summit on Monadnock! The best view ever of the Atlanta skyline is from the top of Stone Mountain. Since moving to Kentucky, I have gone thru Atlanta a few times on the Intestate on my way to family reunions in Florida. I have always gotten stuck in a traffic jam there. I have not been downtown since the 1990's and am not sure I ever will again.
Fun to see, I covered the '96 Olympics and was in Centennial Park the night the bomb went off, right in that spot but I left 30 min before. My colleague lingered and had to stay up all night reporting... you walked very close to my brick near the park fountain. And 10 years ago we camped in site 63 at Stone Mountain! (yellow blazes for hikers, white line for vehicles lol)
I went to Atlanta 2 times last year as a road trip from my home in Tampa FL. It's one of the better cities with great historic sites and recreational activities. Atlanta was also our base camp, as it is as close to our home as it is to all the waterfalls, mountains, and other wonderful nature sites in Appalachia. The downtown is serene as well with buildings lining I 85 pretty much for miles. Nice video Robert!
Happy Sunday Robert, thanks for the tour of Atlanta. I've been in the area a couple of times but was intimidated by the legendary traffic and never made it into the city. The aquarium is still on my bucket list...as you say, one of these days. I did visit Stone Mountain Park, it's a really nice place with something for everyone. It's cool to virtually hike with you to the summit. You're right about the trail being busy, when I was there the parking lot was already packed at 7am. Hope you and Ily are on the mend...happy trails!
We were engaged at Stone Mountain, Robert...still going strong 40 something years later. We always purchased a yearly pass to Stone Mountain as it was a cheap date for college students. I have hiked that train when I was much younger and there was no hand rope to help you. Sometimes you were almost on your knees as it grew steeper. Now I prefer the tram!! BTW, we stayed at the Westin back in Dec to attend our son's PhD graduation from Ga State. You are right...not a place to be after dark.
The yellow dotted line on Stone Mountain is the walking trail. The white line is the driving trail the fuzz took up there. Top of the mountain is a great place for sunsets.
I'm surprised you didn't get to the Beltline, very popular. Ponce City Market/ Old fourth Ward, Virginia Highlands. Also the Atlanta neighborhoods are nicer.
Thank you so much for sharing. 18 years ago I went by there but did not stop. My grand daughter got married in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and I have not been that way since. I sure enjoy your videos. I hope you and your family have a wonderful and blessed 2023.
The area to visit in Atlanta is Piedmont Park, Virginia Highlands, Inman Park, East Atlanta, Highline Trail, Cabbage Town, Ponce Market, Grant Park. Basically a circle around north midtown. Visitors never get that. Edit - there is not much going on in the actual downtown, mostly offices. You have to go a half mile up hill for more.
Next time you are in Atlanta, you should check out the College Football Hall of Fame. A very interactive experience. A lot fun for all ages if you remotely care about football.
Great presentation and video of Atlanta. These days, I try to avoid the city for the congestion and huge size . Years ago, however, I did pass through Atlanta regularly.
Thank you for the video Robert. I’ve been to the Airport a zillion times, which is almost as bad as LAX. I will never visit Atlanta. But your video convinced me.
Interesting about Stone Mountain. I didn't know there was a way to walk to the top. It always looked like it had vertical cliffs when you look at the pictures.
Atlanta WAS a great city. There are still great people and great things to do, but crime has shown its ugly head to the extent where it is not safe downtown and outwards many miles. It's a shame because people from all persuasion's live and get along here. Much of the crime is gang related. Hopefully the good will overtake the bad and evil and this city will rock.
Great comment. It’s sad when only the bad things are stated about a town you love and those same things are not started about areas like Miami, Los Angeles, Los Vegas, etc.
The previous mayor really failed the city. I hate that I hate it here and won't go downtown anymore. I used to love riding the train in and wandering around. Last time was during Atlanta Comic Con and I was scared, even though Marta employees were in my car. It's going to take so long for this city to get back to where it was pre pandemic :(
Why don't you look up the crime statistics? The city of Atlanta has much lower crime compared to the 80s and 90s. Remember when Atlanta was considered a Murder Capital along with Detroit? It was #2 in murder back in the 80s/90s. Remember the Red Dog Unit that roamed around Atlanta? Atlanta's current crime rate is far lower than those of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, particularly the late 1980s and early 1990s. For example, Atlanta reported 16,097 violent crimes in 1990 compared to 4,609 in 2021. And 2023 was even lower than 2021. Atlanta violent crime rate in 2023 is 1/4 of what it was in 1990 and that's with a larger city population compared to 34 years ago.
For good Cuban food go to Mojitos Cuban American Bistro in Historic Norcross (about 30 minutes east of Atlanta). The owners are from Miami. The Ox Tail and the Flan are a must have.
Great video of Atlanta. We visited the MLK museum a few years ago. It was great seeing it again. You should visit Ponce City Market on your next visit.
Stone Mountain is an illusion. You feel like you are out in the country. But you are surrounded by Atlanta suburbs, concrete jungle. Some areas near park crime areas. But a real nice park.
Us introverts can survive in any city as long as we can pay the rent and the crime isn't so bad.. I've treated Atlanta like every other major city I've lived in which is work, mind my business and head into the house when the street lights come on. Now on weekends you can push it maybe until 10 to 11pm but after that you should be in the house. And also stay away from gas stations at night.
I am a fan of your videos, and I was born and still live in Atlanta GA. Actually I live in Tucker GA which is next to Stone Mountain. I've hiked up that mountain many times and that park is a staple of my childhood. To see stone mountain park and other parts of Atlanta while hearing the same soundtrack you've played in so many other places really helps connect me to the other places. How do you compare Atlanta in terms of danger and risk, the way the people take care of the city, cleanliness, and the general attitude the people have to other cities, for example Miami, or Los Angeles?
There is not much going on in the actual downtown in Atlanta, mostly offices. But I am looking forward to the day that changes. Structurally, and or building wise, I think it could be cool. The potential is there.
@@TravelingRobert It's a rite of passage before a Georgia Tech football game. An experience. Your digestive system may not forgive you for a day or two! :)
Atlanta is mad quiet at night, almost like a suburbs. There are bars and what not open. But people that come to Atlanta from larger cities are surprised. No one walking around. Even the homeless people are sleep too. Atlanta isnt 24/7 city but it's busier than the rest of the metro.
Lived in Atlanta in the early 70’s. Worked on Peachtree Street near downtown. Knew the city well. Unfortunately it has changed to the point where we no longer go there. I’m glad you made it out safe. Next time you’re in the Raleigh-Durham area, let us know. The BBQ will be on me. Stay safe, keep up the good work!
I enjoyed the tour of Atlanta but as a whole I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit there. One day maybe but there are other cities in that area that I would like to visit first including your hometown. I also hope you and your wife get better soon.
I made the mistake of taking the Marta train from the airport to downtown and back. That was not the best experience. A lot of strange people on those trains. I do love the Georgia state parks though.
If you go out the other side of Stone Mountain and down Memorial, it takes far less time. It's only 20 minutes at most unless there's traffic. Downtown never really recovered from the pandemic. No one goes there anymore unless there's an event or a nice saturday. (watching in bits)
Upper West Side is the new fancy name for Chattahoochie Industrial area lol. Havana Sandwich Shop is well known as the best place. Cubans Atl is new..I've not been there so I can't speak on it. Havana SS has been there years and thru 2 (I think) fires. Everything on the west side (almost) is new. We lost a lot of really good small business the last few years. That reservoir is where they filmed some of the walking dead. Parking downtown is dangerous anyway. Car breaking are common. You did pass a lot of historic and noteworthy places on the drive out of downtown though. If you come through again, I'd love to give you a list (or show you around if Im still here lol). I haven't been in the MLK site since they redid it. It's very nice! That dark red mansion in Inman Park is called the Beath-Dickey house. Much history there. Stone Mountain - the tram never works if there is any wind happening. The car got up the back side. I haven't been up there since I was a kid, but there's a back entrance that you don't have to climb. I don't think they let the public in there anymore. Yellow line is the walking trail. White is the service "road." It is the off season, but the company that leases the park and runs the exhibits isn't renewing their lease, so I don't know what's up with that.
You are right. Atlanta as you know it is long dead. It didn't survive the pandemic. :( For older places that survived with a few new ones thrown in, You'll have to spend more time on the east side and Decatur, as well as the Buford Hwy Corridor. We are still a foodie city, you just have to plan ahead ;)
Atlanta is not a friendly city & has a high crime rate. Just drive about 55 miles southwest to Carrollton, GA, and walk around our lovely restored square where all types of community friendly activities are held. We also have many local etaurants and historic attractions.
It’s a good thing you followed your instincts on the downtown area. It’s a shame because it is a nice place that is being taken over. That Waffle House behind you at the Olympic Rings used to be a great one to eat at but it’s been many years. That leads me to a question, I’ve never seen you eat Waffle House in videos that I can remember. Do you ever stop into them? Great video, come visit Dalton Ga sometime, drinks on me.
@@TravelingRobert well you got some time on your hands out there, maybe you’ll find one. Hash browns all the way make for a good day lol. All the best, hope your healing well.
It’s showing the pre contact culture of Georgia (prior to the Europeans). Georgia has a lot of mounds and other sites from the Woodland and Mississippian time periods - Etowah, Kolomoki, Ocmulgee - all a must see visit.
Georgia is a beautiful place to visit, but I spend my life avoiding this crime-filled town of Atlanta, I cannot imagine why you left a wonderful campsite to take everything valuable to Atlanta but let's see.
I enjoyed the beauty of Atlanta. The King Memorial was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Didn't understand the significance of Stone Mountain. The city is beautiful and worthy of visiting. Thank you for the introduction of another Great American City.
If you want to see downtown with a lot of people, go during a non cold day around Georgia State University and Fairlie Poplar or on a weekend around Centennial Olympic Park. No need to be scared of black people.
Thank you Robert for showing a great American icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Thank you Robert for taking us along.

It sure is and has appeared in several movies. I love it and the Coke Cola building.
North Metro ATL is the best! 🤩
While there are some things in Atlanta I enjoy. As a rule, I avoid it like the plaque. But you make it look good.
If you go out the other side of Stone Mountain and down Memorial, it takes far less time. It's only 20 minutes at most unless there's traffic. Downtown never really recovered from the pandemic. No one goes there anymore unless there's an event or a nice saturday. (watching in bits)
Capitol Building - the atrium in front of those stairs is where they do press conferences.
White is the service "road."
It is the off season, but the company that leases the park and runs the exhibits isn't renewing their lease, so I don't know what's up with that.
You are right. Atlanta as you know it is long dead. It didn't survive the pandemic. :(
For older places that survived with a few new ones thrown in, You'll have to spend more time on the east side and Decatur, as well as the Buford Hwy Corridor. We are still a foodie city, you just have to plan ahead ;)
Also, if you ever do the aquarium, spring for the behind the scenes tour! It makes the entire experience
ЛАЙК !!! 😊
Atlanta is not a friendly city & has a high crime rate. Just drive about 55 miles southwest to Carrollton, GA, and walk around our lovely restored square where all types of community friendly activities are held. We also have many local etaurants and historic attractions.
Carrollton is a boring Hell-hole.
What's wrong with a visit to Underground Atlanta?
It’s a good thing you followed your instincts on the downtown area. It’s a shame because it is a nice place that is being taken over. That Waffle House behind you at the Olympic Rings used to be a great one to eat at but it’s been many years.
That leads me to a question, I’ve never seen you eat Waffle House in videos that I can remember. Do you ever stop into them? Great video, come visit Dalton Ga sometime, drinks on me.
Haven't been to Waffle House in a while.
@@TravelingRobert well you got some time on your hands out there, maybe you’ll find one. Hash browns all the way make for a good day lol. All the best, hope your healing well.
@@kevinjohnson1439 I used to go more often before RV life. They usually don't have large enough parking lots.
@@TravelingRobert I wish you would have elaborated on what happened that caused you to put your camera away.
@@shalabennett8030 Me too! It leaves people to think all sorts of things.
Your instincts are correct. Best not to be in downtown ATL after dark. We all know why.
I really want to visit atlantia georgia
👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Is the carvings closed for the fact people want to forget history?
Commanding views?
lived in Atlanta my whole life. It is fast becoming a Chicago. 12 year old carrying pistols and shooting each other
Chicago of the South. And the reasons are the same...
Just curious. What is a statue of a Mississippian chief doing in the Georgia State Capitol?
It’s showing the pre contact culture of Georgia (prior to the Europeans). Georgia has a lot of mounds and other sites from the Woodland and Mississippian time periods - Etowah, Kolomoki, Ocmulgee - all a must see visit.
Georgia is a beautiful place to visit, but I spend my life avoiding this crime-filled town of Atlanta, I cannot imagine why you left a wonderful campsite to take everything valuable to Atlanta but let's see.
So true....
Other than the mountain, nothing in this city is appealing to me either. Been through their airport a few times. Another disaster!
I enjoyed the beauty of Atlanta. The King Memorial was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Didn't understand the significance of Stone Mountain. The city is beautiful and worthy of visiting. Thank you for the introduction of another Great American City.
Too much negativity while you were touring Atlanta. What place could be more dangerous than Miami, Fl.
@@jackiesmith1325 Riots are happening in downtown Atlanta, Miami doesn't have any of that, at the moment.
If you want to see downtown with a lot of people, go during a non cold day around Georgia State University and Fairlie Poplar or on a weekend around Centennial Olympic Park. No need to be scared of black people.
Centennial Olympic Park was great. Not afraid of people of any color... but mentally unstable folks living on the street... a little.
Me gusta los videos no le gustaría hacer en español mas personas habla Espana también puede verlo
I lived in Atlanta during two different periods of my childhood. Would not go there on a dare.
Atlanta, this is one of the many places that I do not ever need to visit in my lifetime.
Agreed 👍
It's actually really awesome. You just need to know where to go.
