1987. My Dad died at 57. A Southern Baptist Pastor. Beloved by so many. Wonderful father; excellent Pastor; beloved friend, but my Daddy. As I rode in the backseat of that big stretch limousine that sad day, George Jones' song stayed in my mind on loop. "WHO'S Gonna Fiil their Shoes?" Daddy was one of a kind. It took years to fill his pulpit. Nobody could measure up. Still can't, after 37 years. Thank you, George Jones, for this haunting, wonderful ode to heroes...❤
This video is PURE old school right from the start when the ole timer hollers for George then backs away from the door to show respect and not intimidate at someone's front door. Pure magic

He was right! This song is so true! No country singer will ever compare or get this message! They just don't know what real country music is supposed to sound like anymore! This is real country music! Love you George and miss you big time!!!!
What a heart rending song, knowing almost all of the legends George names, and George himself, are gone. It will never be like that again, sadly. They were all one in a billion. I hear this and I also think of my dad, gone some 24 years now who loved country music and taught me to love it too, and my uncle, one of his best friends, gone since not long after George Jones left us, for whom the Possum was is greatest hero. RIP to them all.
Agree. Singer, songwriter, nutter, performer and all round legend. As one of his biggest fans (my Dad) often said, "George could bring a tear to a glass eye!" The world is that little bit darker without them both!

The older I get, the more sentimental this song becomes! And for me, it goes beyond all those wonderful old country legends. I think back to old friends of my parents that I grew up knowing, old family members who have gone on before us. Whose gonna fill their shoes ?!?!? This song makes me think of my dad so much. I don’t think “anyone” can fill any of their shoes! We have our memories to hold on to, and wonderful songs like this, that we can listen to, that still pulls at our heart strings !
I think the very same way. After the older folks in my family have passed on, “Who is going to fill their shoes?” I know the answer to the question, just don’t want to believe it.
I read that his wife said that the day he died he had not been talking at all for a while and they knew he’s time was almost up. He suddenly opened his eyes and smiled and and said “ Hi, I’ve been waiting for you. I’m George Jones..”. Then he closed his eyes and went to Heaven. I hope I get to meet him when I get there.
He Stopped Loving Her Today!! And This Who's Gonna Find Their Shoes!! Are Two Songs That Will Live On, And Still Be Played Long After We're Gone!! 🤔 Thanks Possum ❣️RIP 🙏😇 My Brother ❣️
I try to sing along whenever I hear this song, but I'm never able to because I'm too choked up. I grew up on this music, and sadly, remember when we lost most of them (pretty much all of them except for Patsy Cline and Hank Williams and those few that are still with us). When Buck Owens and Merle Haggard passed, I was pretty torn up because I've spent a large part of my life in and around Bakersfield. There are a few that have continued to carry the torch, but sadly, most can't be heard on the radio these days. Randy Travis is probably the most notable example. Most of what is heard on the radio these days is forgettable. I probably wouldn't even think about most of it if I never heard it again.
One of the greatest nostalgia songs ever! As I’m getting older, these are the songs I want to listen to, they remind my of my childhood. When all we had was one 13 inch tv connected to 3 channels by an old rusted antenna, and momma played our Hugh upright radio all day long. Well those things are gone now, lost mom this last March 2022. Live seems so different now, and I find myself less motivated by new things and super excited about the old ones! All you wonderful people who around my age can surely understand my feelings! God bless the world, as we so need it! These younger people will never understand what a awesome world we grew up in!
God bless you and so sorry for your loss. Hello Donna how are you doing over there?
Pure magic

Something about George Jones voice always gets me a little sentimental, not just that my dad played guitar and sang so many of his songs but his voice is so classic. Hard to fill those shoes
Yep!
Yeah he had something special. You can play any George Jones song I never heard and it would be easy to tell that it's him. He was definitely something special .
I urge all of my fellow George fans to always share this music. I have an 11 year old grandson that sings these songs when hes out helping me work in my yard. This music should never ever Die
I miss hearing your voice Mr.Jones coming from my Grandpa’s radio, standing beside him as we drove home down the dirt road. I miss those days and I miss my Grandpa and Mr.Jones.What an era that was!
The kind of song that hits you in the soul.

Hello how are you doing?😊
The older I get, the more sentimental this song becomes! And for me, it goes beyond all those wonderful old country legends. I think back to old friends of my parents that I grew up knowing, old family members who have gone on before us. Whose gonna fill their shoes ?!?!? This song makes me think of my dad so much. I don’t think “anyone” can fill any of their shoes! We have our memories to hold on to, and wonderful songs like this, that we can listen to, that still pulls at our heart strings !
Hello 👋 how are you doing today
WELL SAID.
Yes , I feel the same way
I think the very same way. After the older folks in my family have passed on, “Who is going to fill their shoes?” I know the answer to the question, just don’t want to believe it.
Well said, we all need to write replies and comments when
appropriate.
Rest in paradise Mr. Jones. We miss you sir. 😪

Hero’s get remembered but legends never die
I read that his wife said that the day he died he had not been talking at all for a while and they knew he’s time was almost up. He suddenly opened his eyes and smiled and and said “ Hi, I’ve been waiting for you. I’m George Jones..”. Then he closed his eyes and went to Heaven. I hope I get to meet him when I get there.
I'm 14 and this made me feel sad and made me realize how much country has changed . We need more songs that make you feel something

Yep
No body cause music changes and it's just not the same. This was my Grandmas music 🎶 I miss her and the music. Great memories
Love it ❤
One of the greatest nostalgia songs ever!
