Just like any other business. Real artists will satisfy their own desires with their art, but in order to stay in business you have to produce music people will pay for.
I been noticing that too. Just about anything you talk about nowadays, you can trace its history and how it improved and improved until it culminated in the 70s and 80s then declined and declined until today. Fighter planes F 15 F 14. 1972. R model Mack's the 3406 cat and 855 Cummins. Your Grandma's olive green 30 year washer set. 78 Chevy 4x4. The John Deere 30 series. Still in service. Hot rods hemi, chevy 396 , ford boss. I can't buy a good can opener today unless I go to an antique shop and get a swing away built in the seventies. Profit before people. It's ironic that church congregations also reflect this swing in the 70s
@@bagelmaster2498 I see your point. I don't know alot about fighters but was under the impression that the f4 was the rugged powerhouse like a 4020. And the f15 was more refined like the 30 series jd. But pure at one thing.... Air superiority. I know the f- 18, while a fine fighter, is somewhat of a compromise. Cheaper and trying to perform more roles. After that, I lost interest in planes so I assumed the f22 was more of the same. They do call it a joint strike fighter.

There’s no one to fill those shoes. Some things only come once . George Jones was one of a kind. In reality we are all one of a kind. God must think that’s a good thing or it wouldn’t be so.
Brother as long as there is people like us, country is gonna be country until the end of time. And hopefully we will be alongside this great man one day to let him know how much we love him
Guys yall go check out Jason James. He sounds alot like George jones. Some of it sounds like hank. Just dropped a new album. He sounds like the older country but still has his own flavor
THE DAY AFTER GEORGE JONES DIED I BEGAN MY MORNING RADIO PROGRAM WITH " WHO'S GONNA FILL THEIR SHOES " THEN PLAYED 3 STRAIGHT HOURS WITHOUT INTERRUPTION OF ALL HIS FAVOURITES, FINISHING WITH " WHO'S GONNA FILL THEIR SHOES " ONE LAST TIME ... PROBABLY THE BEST SONG GEORGE EVER PERFORMED AND ONE OF THE REALLY GREAT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONGS OF ALL TIME ... REMEMBRANCE.
Clay Marston George was in and out around here. He recorded over at FAME and he lived near me in the 80s. Georgette and I had classes at UNA together. I couldn’t stand the people that bugged her wanting her Daddy’s autograph. In my sweet Southern way I let them how rude they were and that personally I feel there’s no true value in an autograph you didn’t meet the person and receive. Shut them up! Just chatting with her I knew we had been raised the same country way. My Great Aunt lived near Tammy, her kids went to same school. When Tammy was training to be a beautician she did Aunt Ozzie’s hair. My Aunt Ann ran a clothing store near FAME George was her best customer. She learned what he liked and shopped for him. She kept it on hand as she never knew when he’d drop in. She never talked much about till the dementia. You can see her go back in time and almost relive it. I don’t care how many times I’ve heard it, it has her so happy. One last story. Promise 1985 I was at the mall so excited I just bought my Swatch Watch I’d saved for. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going and ran into someone. I raised my head and was eye to eye with George. I was so embarrassed. “Mr Jones I’m so sorry I wasn’t watching where i was going.” I wanted to die! He gave me that smile, took my hand and patted it. He said “Darlin it’s just George.” I went to apologize again and almost said Mr and he smiled so I said George I’m sorry sir. I hope you don’t mind me sharing.
Great tribute to the Legend. Nobody will ever fill any of their shoes. Most new singers usually takes old songs and does a remake of it...can't write their own. So sad.
Clay Marston I m from the North east and saw George many times, always teared me up. The last time Nancy patted my head from the bus as they were going out. A high spot on the road of life.
This video is PURE old school right from the start when the ole timer hollers for George then backs away from the door to show respect and not intimidate at someone's front door. Pure magic

Even though I don't have the kind of voice it takes to be on the radio I'm still blessed that God gave me a voice AT ALL! Because even if I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket as they say, the Lord knew that I would love music and to sing and as long as I have a voice that people want to hear or not I'm not gonna stop singing! It's just something I've always enjoyed no matter what! So thank you Lord for the voice you did give me in Jesus precious holy name Amen.🙏😁👏🗣❤
I’m okay until 3:56. “Old Marty, Hank and Lefty. Why I can feel em right here with me, on this Silver Eagle rolling through the night.” I burst into tears every time. Best country lyric performance of all time.
The older I get, the more sentimental this song becomes! And for me, it goes beyond all those wonderful old country legends. I think back to old friends of my parents that I grew up knowing, old family members who have gone on before us. Whose gonna fill their shoes ?!?!? This song makes me think of my dad so much. I don’t think “anyone” can fill any of their shoes! We have our memories to hold on to, and wonderful songs like this, that we can listen to, that still pulls at our heart strings !
I think the very same way. After the older folks in my family have passed on, “Who is going to fill their shoes?” I know the answer to the question, just don’t want to believe it.

Just because George Strait has the most #1 country hits of all time, does not mean he's King George. George Jones is King George and will always be the King of Country Music.
@@kevinchandler179 George Strait is a legend, but George Jones was and still is King George of country. He paved the way for country music superstars!! My comment is not a crazy ass comment at all!!

I try to sing along whenever I hear this song, but I'm never able to because I'm too choked up. I grew up on this music, and sadly, remember when we lost most of them (pretty much all of them except for Patsy Cline and Hank Williams and those few that are still with us). When Buck Owens and Merle Haggard passed, I was pretty torn up because I've spent a large part of my life in and around Bakersfield. There are a few that have continued to carry the torch, but sadly, most can't be heard on the radio these days. Randy Travis is probably the most notable example. Most of what is heard on the radio these days is forgettable. I probably wouldn't even think about most of it if I never heard it again.
A haunting reality. Today’s country musicians do not even come close. Glad i grew up with, Hank and Lefty; George and Willie; Meryl and Johnny. All the greats are from my generation. How fortunate for me.
He was right! This song is so true! No country singer will ever compare or get this message! They just don't know what real country music is supposed to sound like anymore! This is real country music! Love you George and miss you big time!!!!
That is so true friend, it really has gone to hell and back since the 70s and early 80s,,, times are really changing friend just sit back and take a look around you
Patrcia.. you are right about that. . I don't think any of these girls singers coming up now can sing, IF you have to get on the stage half naked to hold they're attention, your not a good singer and the majority have to dance , Theres nothing wrong with dancing or wearing clothes that show almost everthing to get attention if that's what you like, BUT you shouldn't have to do that on the stage to keep they're attention..Also I don't understand half the words they're singing. They repeat the same line over, and over, They're not telling stories ,like George and the other guys back then.. Just a couple of them do..But most of them are fast songs so they can dance on the stage., Just miss all the old singers when I was young.. Like George said, whose gonna fill they're shoes, including George's. now . SAD ALMOST ALL ARE GONE.

I cut my teeth on kitty, patsy, Marty, buck, Roy , & the rest of country music’s greats of the 1950s-1970s. For me, that was the greatest era of country music. Oh yeah, let’s not forget Jim Reeves. Many of these stars died far too young.
George Strait and Alan Jackson are the last hope of saving country music. They still sing traditional country music. After they are gone there wont be any one else to carry on the tradition unless someone else comes along.
BR there's some good young traditional country talent here on RUclips all you have to do is look. I say this because my era of country music is the same, the 50's -70's & I thought it was over for any decent traditional country but then came Keith Whitley, George Strait, & a couple other traditional artists, We just have to believe that the new artists who've got tradition in their music will get us thru & that "Murder on Music Row" isn't a permanent condition.

1987. My Dad died at 57. A Southern Baptist Pastor. Beloved by so many. Wonderful father; excellent Pastor; beloved friend, but my Daddy. I have a feeling George wasn't just talking about music... politicians, actors, dancers, et cetera have all gone downhill.
Life imitates art...
Absolutely!
@@henrycomputer1403 I’ll agree with you on most of that stuff but planes? The f22 is the culmination of like everything

You're absolutely right sir
Promise
1985 I was at the mall so excited I just bought my Swatch Watch I’d saved for.

They repeat the same line over, and over, They're not telling stories ,like George and the other guys back then..

Country isn't my favorite genre. BUT some of the greatest singers and songs of all time are Country. This song actually brought tears to my eyes. Brought back many great childhood memories. The gas station, memorabilia and friendliness. Wonderful tribute, great artist and now Jerry. R.I.P. 😢 😭

1987. My Dad died at 57. A Southern Baptist Pastor. Beloved by so many. Wonderful father; excellent Pastor; beloved friend, but my Daddy. As I rode in the backseat of that big stretch limousine that sad day, George Jones' song stayed in my mind on loop. "WHO'S Gonna Fiil their Shoes?" Daddy was one of a kind. It took years to fill his pulpit. Nobody could measure up. Still can't, after 37 years. Thank you, George Jones, for this haunting, wonderful ode to heroes...❤
