Corn Silage 2020 | Chopping Corn and Filling Silage Pits | Corn Silage on a Small Dairy Farm

- In this video you can see us harvesting our corn for silage. We had 2 hectares at home and 3 hectares that we bought, about 15 kilometers away from the farm.
Contractor came with Claas Jaguar 940, we've had 8 drivers bringing in the chopped corn, one on telescopic loader for pushing and levelling it in silage pits and two tractors for compacting.
We filled all our 3 silage pits, with 300 tons of corn chaff on a 5,85 ha.
We use two of our silos for winter feeding and one during the summer.
Under corn we also have grass silage that we prepared in the spring and summer.
Our home field is pretty steep on some areas, that's why we use smaller trailers on it.
Corn for silage is important crop on our farm. With high yield and nutrition value provides great energy source for our dairy cows.
Thanks for watching!
Such a cool little farm, someone needs to make this location available in Farming simulator 👍🏻
That would be fun 😁
That would be so cool, but it probably won't come on console
Nice idea,we need some modder do that!
Yeah. That would be awesome
It’s nice to have help while getting silage and corn in . And you have a good harvest as what I seen on video. You must have your brother and dad helping that’s cool. And the videos up in the air shots our awesome
Long day of work but a good feeling to know the feed is undercover for the winter. 🚜
Really good feeling 🙂
Nice video, you have quite the the variety of silage wagons.
Awesome. Just awesome. Great job. Been watching your channel for awhile and you have a very efficient operation. I use to be a dairy farmer. Have never seen putting corn silage on top of haylage before. I can see were that makes perfect sense with the type of feed mixer wagon that you have.
Thank you, nice to have you around 🙂
Awesome video I love to watch these small farms very different to us

Great video. How long will that silage last once you start feeding it to the cows? And do you add other feed to supplement their diet?
Thanks 🙂 2 of them will last until end of April/start of May. Yes, we balance diet with dry corn, barley, rapeseed,... They also get a lot of hay 😉

I have been watching your videos for quite sometime, one of your best so far, really liked the opening drone shots. 👍 Nice to see you got your corn silage in. We are going to do ours later this week.
Are you going to open up the smaller pile you made soon? And is that your father and brother always helping you?
Thanks man, nice to hear 🙂 great 👍 yeah I opened it yesterday 😉 yes, usually my father helps and sometimes my brother 😀
Awesome video.. Love to see this kind of Mais harvest..!!! Maybe next year live.. 🤔😉🎉 LG.

So.. busy day then??😂. It’s a nice tidy camp you made. We’re all the tractors and trailers from the contractor or locals helping out?
Yup 😁 local farmers, we help them back in return 🙂
@@farmerspov4709 best way to do it 🙂
Great video - have only just stumbled onto your channel and you now have a new subscriber 👍 Beautiful farm you have - I used to be a dairy farmer in the UK, now growing hay and alfalfa in Spain. Keep up the great work and excellent vids 👏👍

where did the bigger trailers bring the maize from, did you have 2 choppers working at the same time
Thanks 😊 No, we first harvested the faraway field where we needed more drivers, then the combine moved to the other field 😉
Awesome video, from Italy

It’s more corn than last year? Enough for next year?
Yes and yes 😉
Cool video👍👍👍
Nice Video, is there a reason why you keep the silage under a roof?
Just for protection and it's nice to have feed in dry area during rain or snow 🙂
Great video and love from the United States, also 6:02 had me dying of laughter
Haha, everyone is excited 😅
Nice video, cool. You made corn silage But where's the real corn ? Are cut off after u get the corn?
Thanks 👍 hm, not sure what you mean... 🤔

We only grow corn for silage and we buy dry corn 😉

Farmer's POV looks stunning mate
5:31 top!
Close call 🙃
Great
sorry, we do the same job with 1 man on pit, 3-6 on the street and the harvester. and yes the first i would do, rising the roof or stripped off. this pit's doesn't look technical of the time "since 1970"
and yes... would u upgrade the 2 traktor on the pit with some weigth ... a plow or some other attachable tools on the farm
Yeah I'm sure you could've done it differently but it works this way just fine 😉
Super
Good work
👍
nice video, what dron do you have?
Thanks, it's a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced 😉
@@farmerspov4709 oh , that is a very good dronde, and expensive too.
That Bull aint got no shame
Haha well it ain't a bull... 😅
I know there are different practices of farming everywhere but am from north of Scotland and as far as I know in the uk we do separate pits for grass silage and maze silage but everywhere is different
Yeah, I mean, there are also farmers that are doing seperate pits for corn and grass here, but for us it works best that way 😉
I cant figure out how many people live at your farm seems like there are alot of houses and barns how many cow do you have how much land do you farm
Currently 7 people. We have one house, one cow barn, two sheds and a roof above our silage pits, we have 60 cows and we currently milk 36 of them. We farm 22 hectares 🙂
Hi I work on a dairy farm and all of our silage is separate is there a reason you guys put corn silage on top of grass silage or is just because of space
Its because of space and to be able to fill all three at once when we harvest corn in the fall 😉
Do you plant corn on this field every year? :)
Yes 😉
Hi there
How do u do when u provide it to ur cows
Once u open up one section ( how much u give them daily per cow?
U close back again ?
Does it go off once air goes inside of it?
Greetings from Colombia.
Thank you.
Hi. We use feeding wagon (Trioliet Gigant 700) with cutter on the back. Each cow gets around 32 kg of silage per day. We open one section and keep removing plastic daily, as much as we need. When we reach silo walls in one section, we close the exposed part of the other section with plastic, usually without any problems. Greetings from Slovenia 🙂
I don't know your name, great video brother 😉
Its Gasper, thanks 🙂
I have a question, why are the feed pits inside? own a dairy farm in the netherlands but have never seen this here
The roof over silage pits is just for protection from weather and it's nice to be under the roof when loading silage during rain or snow 😃 yeah I guess it's not very common as the roof can be in the way for bigger trailers and tractors 🤔
@@farmerspov4709 thanks now I get him. yes, with larger wagons you will not get under it if the feed silo gets higher with the harvesting.

Thanks for watching 🙂
👍👍👍
how many hectares was the corn field?
2,5 ha
Dude where are you from? Must be somewhere in central Europe?
Yep, from Slovenia 😉
Dolenjska? 😁
Gorenjska 😄
why so small ? machine big, field area big but dairy so small, small silage pit, low roofs low homes very interesting
Well, bigger machines aren't ours, our biggest tractor is 85 horsepower. Our field is only 2,5 hectares, number of our cows is adequate to our land, also our storage areas, it works really well for our conditions 😉
Kako odprete tako širok silos da se ne kvari potem oz. Kako umes zaprete ostala dva?
Silažo jemljemo samo v širini enega silosa in ko porabimo silažo do začetka sten, samo zakrijemo odprt del s folijo 😉

@@farmerspov4709 thanks bro
Busy day! ,but very satisfying to see the clamps full for the winter.
Have you done it differently this year layering the maize on top of the grass silage rather than having a separate pit .
Thanks for the video's ,from the UK 🇬🇧
Yep! 🙂 No, we've been doing it this way for quite some time now, it works pretty good for us. Thanks for watching! 😀
Koje velicine ti je silo trenč?
20 m x 4 m x 2,6 m
Pits?
We always called them bunkers.
In our area pits were popular way before bunkers.
Pits were dug out in the side of hills and thus had dirt floors and dirt walls
Interesting, thanks 😀 english isn't my first language so I thought that pit silos are those closed on one side (that you have to back in) 🤔
