The song is called "Know Thy True Self" Because this fight helps Specter Knight finally realize what he is; not an undead thrall of the Enchantress, nor a rage-bound ghost, nor a hapless soul clinging to his forgotten past. He is Donovan, the man who promised to protect the son of his friend. That's his true self, at heart. The music in this game is always nothing short of superb, for both it's beautiful composition and the way it helps tell the story. Through it's subtle leitmotifs, and little touches like these, it supports all four of the campaigns in an incredible way. Jake Kaufman is truly an excellent composer.
While this is all correct, and a nice interpretation, I'm pretty sure that the title is talking about Reize. He is literally being possessed after all, so "Know Thy True Self" makes sense.
I just realized, each character represents a time period in gaming. Shovel is 1980's (Basic, uses multiple items, typical hero saves girl) Plague is 2000's (More Options, focus on a lovable anti-hero, easier to some but retains difficulty differently) Specter is 1990's (Cooler, Skateboards, Darker story, Upgrades older games). I'm guessing the only one left is 2010's for King.... I think. Update: Turns out I was actually right! It has a collectible card game with a random rewards system (no micro transactions though), goofy but secretly dark story, and a more parody-styled plot. Update 2: Mega: *Mentions 2010s gaming* Commenters: OH DEAR GOD THIS IS TERRIBLE!
Rail mail armor is THE BEST armor IN ALL OF SHOVEL KNIGHT. Like it's so fun and useful, why would you NOT use it? I was kinda dissapointed to notice that Horace's minigame didn't include any grinding parts in it.
this sondtrack went from fighting a curse made by a dark amulet to fighting a nighmare reincarnation of your friend's son to fighting a mirror. progress I guess
Dang, this is probably my favourite out of all four of Shovel Knight's final boss themes. Why do the edgy characters/campaigns always get the best music?
Boo Oey hidden by night, embraced by darkness... Is an imposition of order... Donovan's struggle never ends. The price of doing business hits a little close to home. But he will know his true self.
The only useful curio in this fight is the judgement rush. Its a get out of jail free card if you fall into pits. Well you do use Darkness but no other item is as safe to use as this is so if you do have to use it, unless you have wasted darkness you should be fine. Either way this boss is easier than it has a right to be so practically no threat is posed here except for "Nightmare reize" but guess what? When he was a miniboss he posed much more of a threat so in turn enchantress just fucked over her loyal servant.

This fight is so much fun when trying to go for the Naked Specter feat. (Tip: bring the Striker’s Shawl into the fight, and use it to bypass his arbitrary attacks at certain health thresholds)
So let me get this straight. Specter Knight is an edgelord with a sythe that has a terrible curse on him and feels the need to protect a child that isn't actually his but he had a close relationship with his parents so he wants to be a father figure to him... Hey Qrow I found your brother.

And you know this how?
@@RenegadeVile I mean, I don't, necessarily. I'm just interpreting the title based on what happens in the story. It's fun.
Shovel Knight faces the Soul of Fate.
Plague Knight faces the Soul of Desire.
Specter Knight faces the Soul of Remorse.
I wonder what form of soul King Knight would face...
Maybe King Knight will face the Soul of Avarice
Andrew Hopson soul of FABULOUS
King Knight faces the Soul of Agony?
i don’t see how it would fit but it makes sense based on the others.
Soul of Responsibility?
Nightmare Reize was super easy but extremely fun to fight.

So King Knight's campaign will be either a brownish first person shooter or a sandbox where you clear enemy camps and climb high things? Oh goody...
I have think it will have a heavier focus on plot, and will be a quest of redemption.
Megachamp Awesomedude it's probably gonna have a lot of paid dlc lol
Or maybe everything will become awkwardly political for no reason...

This isn't the real final battle. It's actually Horace's game.
They do overlap at points, but Horace's game isn't this intense, and the theme for it is titled "The Struggle Never Ends".
It was a joke about the difficulty of this minigame.
a "MINI"game. YEAH MORE LIKE HOW HIGH IS THIS MOTHERFUCKING TOWER GODDAMIT IS IT ON LOOP OR SOMETHING??!?!?!?!?
Wall jump+Scythe grinding. Makes the mini game way more fun.

Parkour!
that mirror
you have to fight the mirror literally at least 60 times
Dang, this is probably my favourite out of all four of Shovel Knight's final boss themes. Why do the edgy characters/campaigns always get the best music?
Because when you can slice a cannonball in half and ninja your way through levels, you deserve some good music to accompany it
Because edgy people do cool shit sometimes. Except for the emo bunch

I think it would be pretty cool if King's final boss was either a powered-up Shovel Knight or a Shovel Knight/Shield Knight tag-team
Quinn Gifford The latter would be awesome and I'm going to assume that there will possibly be a Troupple King boss fight since King on King!
The problem is fitting it into the timeline. After all, in the main game King Knight makes no mention of Shovel or Shield knight.
