    My personal tips:
    1. a. Find out how much protein you need and than eat exactly that amount and not more.
    b. Try to get as much as you can through things like broccoli, spinach and cabbage, those are cheeper than meat.
    c. mussels are quite cheep and an exelent iron source, find ways you enjoy them and if its stretching ground beef in meat balls with them.
    d. Ask you butcher for "throw away"-parts like chicken hearts, those do not taste like organmeat, are extreamly nurtiendense and with a bit of luck extreamly cheep if the alternativ is haveing to throw them away cause no one wants them.
    e. Some fishmarkets offer the less pretty cut offs from things like salmon for soup makeing, it is not a nice filet or steak, but it is just as healthy and in fish soup you will not know the difference.
    2. a. Buy seasonal and regional vegetables even if they are not exiting and find ways you like them. Rootvegetables like rutabega and turnips are extreamly underapriciated and often cheeper than the go to alternatives. Cabbage is extreamly versatile and keeps very long.
    b. Onions are most often only used as a condement but they actualy make a very tasty vegetable if prepared right and quite cheap.
    c. Buy if possible rootvegetable with the greens, those are eatable, quite tasty and practicly free. Carrotgreen makes a great pesto to go with ovenroasted Carrots, beetgreens make a good salat . . . .
    d. use every pice of scrap vegetable for stock/broth instead of buying extra veggies for it.
    3. a. Make stuff yourself, especialy snacks and broth/stock. Something like plantainchips is extreamly easy to make in the oven, takes very little time and it is just way cheaper and avoids plastic. Preparing sweets, snacks and broth for the week on the weekend saves a lot of money and you can control how much you make, how much sweetner you add and things like that.
    b. do not buy stuff just because you can have it, or for just one dish. if you invest in a flour, line up a few recipes for useing it so you get rid of it, even if one or two recipes are a flop.

    A really good tip is to go to your grocery store and check to see when the org grass fed meats expire. And then come back a few days beforehand and they will be marked down tremendously!!! You go ahead and freeze them and they will last very long time in the freezer!

    This video was such good timing for me. I've been working on ways to spend less money on paleo. Our food budget ballooned last year when we went on paleo. Now our income has decreased so I've had to work on spending a lot less but still sticking to no grains and dairy because we feel so much better without them.
    I used to buy a lot of paleo or no grain snacks at the discount store. They were discounted but they still weren't the best deal. Now I just buy a huge bag of nuts and another of raisins. I ration those out so they last a few weeks. Those are our quick snacks along with bananas.
    Sometimes I don't feel much like cooking. Instead of eating out I grab a rotissarie chicken at Sam's Club. It's like our junk food. Not entirely paleo because of the seasoning mix they use but a lot better than going totally off plan.
    We do okay with white potatoes so we eat those as our filler along with cheaper veggies and a side of meat. We also eat a lot of bananas and apples because they are cheaper than other fruits.

      Great tips! Thanks so much for sharing. I should do your nut and raisin tip for my kids - but I'd have to hide the bags from them or else they'd be gone in an afternoon 😂

    Good advice. I used to eat lots of meat, and it was crazy expensive. Now I eat mostly veggies...However, I think buying organic and wild caught meats is very important. Conventional meats are loaded with antibiotics, hormones, pesticides and GMOs. Those things can really damage the gut and liver. I won't sacrifice my health for conventional meats.

      @@jennyberger6688 it's a struggle to follow meal planning PERIOD!! But it does work if you are starving and you have something ready to go for yourself. I understand that meal planning for family who do not follow your diet is a struggle too. I often feel like it is double duty, but then I have been feeling soooooo much better. Great points for saving money. It can get out of control really quickly, especially when you're spending on medical care as well! I'm wondering if you have any insight into what it may point to if I'm intolerant to all starchy veg. I react to sweet potato, squash, taro, cassava, plantain, coconut, breadfruit, even jicama. It means spending even more on food of course as well as severely limiting my allowable foods. I'm also on fodmap so I feel as if I'm down to lettuce and meat essentially.

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  4 года назад +1

      If you're intolerant to starchy veg and also fodmaps then I'd strongly suspect SIBO or some other gut infection. Have you worked with a doctor to get tested for that? That'd be my first step. If positive typically one goes through a course of antimicrobials and often antibiotics as well, and that's one of the times I highly recommend doing something like that as typically helps tremendously with most people.

    Hi Michele, I had a question regarding your Hashimoto's. I hope it's alright that I commented on this video, it was the most recent from what I saw. I also have hashimoto's and celiac disease, and am finally learning how to deal with everything with diet. I just started Paleo about a week ago. Still need to tweak it a bit and cut out the yogurt and honey, but have made a lot of huge changes. I've tried to be on synthroid but also have a stomach condition called Functional Dyspepsia and have trouble tolerating medications and vitamins without my stomach burning for weeks on end. I'm basically trying to help heal my thyroid naturally until I can figure out another medication alternative. I've been going through what I think is a very nasty hashimoto's flare up. I've had them here and there, with migraines, vertigo, and joint pain being the most of my symptoms. Right around Halloween is when I started with new symptoms, constant lightheadedness and a fatigue like I've never felt along with the usual joint pains and sinus pressure. It's very scary especially cause it's new, and has lasted for about 3 weeks now. I have some lab results to check this Monday so I'll see where I'm at, but my question is can hashimoto's flares last this long? I've had them usually last around a week or two, but I'm guessing with Halloween and all the treats I threw my poor thyroid over the edge. Am I stuck with these new symptoms or could a flare last this long, and how long do yours normally last? Thanks for all of your amazing videos! 💕

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  3 года назад

      Yeah, the definitely can last that long, but I'm glad you have some lab results to check as well just to rule out something else. If it didn't wind up being a flare, make sure to check nutritional deficiencies as well as there are a few nutrients that could cause those symptoms.

    Is it a game changer if you buy farm raised fish?

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  2 года назад +1

      If that's what you can afford then go for it. It's always "better" to get the wild-caught versions in terms of nutrient-density (there's more in wild-caught) and lack of antibiotics, etc used to raise them (that often get passed on to you when eating them), but it's still better to eat farm-raised fish than no fish at all.

    You’re so wrong on the price of meat! Why make meat a smaller part? Per pound, local pastured beef is just about the same price as fresh veggies. Per calorie, meat is quite a bit cheaper than veggies!
    My deer tag costs $27 and provides almost 200 pounds of meat!
    And even the regular store like Aldi often has chicken in sale for under $1/pound, you can’t get asparagus or even broccoli that cheap

    • @MicheleSpring
      @MicheleSpring  4 года назад +4

      oh wow, you definitely get meat a heck of a lot cheaper than I can. Sure, when you can hunt it makes a difference - that's a whole different ballgame. But when I go to my stores I can't get chicken (like organic, not pastured) for less than $7.99 a pound and organic (not grass-fed) ground beef for less than $8.99 a pound. Pastured stuff is way more - like $12.99 a pound. I want to come live where you do!

      @@MicheleSpring so true. Aip consist of grass fed and pastured and this can get expensive!! But the meat thats loaded with all the bad stuff soooooo cheap! 1.99 for ground beef and chicken .39 cents a pound😯 .... prioritizing on my health. I'd rather pay for quality foods vs being in pain or on meds. I have cheated and felt the difference 🤷‍♀️
