- Just received this brand new RJ-4230BL thermal printer. It is a RuggedJet printer that prints labels, and regular or premium receipt papers, from 2" to 4" wide. The video gives you an idea that you can unbox, install the battery, load the paper, set up bluetooth, and print the information sheet in about 4 minutes.
BTW, RJ stands for RuggedJet, BL means bluetooth with lithium battery. Brother's naming convention is not that difficult to figure out. The RJ-4250WBL (reviewed separately) is the WiFi and Bluetooth version.
This printer replaced the RJ-4030Ai model with a modern design. It is also overall smaller yet basically does the same thing. You can do a lot of things with this printer but we let you figure out yourselves. :)
P.S. The battery is already installed. Just remove the white paper to engage the battery to the connector.
Questions and comments are welcome. Thank you for watching.

I have a lot of difficulty finding labels for this model. Any advice?
You can find them with this search: www.brother-usa.com/search#q=rj4230b&t=tab-All&layout=card
I found this printer works best on iPhone using AirPrint, couldn’t get it to work with Bluetooth. In Android the Bluetooth option seems to limit the size of images that can be sent to the printer to the point it’s not worth it as qr codes weren’t clear at all
Both RJ4250WBL and RJ4230BL support 203dpi, which meets the requirement for shipping labels, including QR code. You can print large images (JPG, PNG) and select FIT to Paper. This will work on whatever paper rolls you are using. I believed that your AirPrint is boring on the RJ4250WBL, not your RJ4230BL. AirPrint does not support bluetooth. Please note that I am not an employee of Brother. I am more of a technical nerd who run some of their hackathon events. I am sorry that I do not have the resource to search for all the apps that support the printers. I know for a fact that many of hackathon contestants have successfully created nice apps that run on said printers. Good luck! P.S. I am curious why you are buying both printers first, then looking for the apps.
What apps can be used to print images in Android using WiFi mode
RJ-4230BL is Bluetooth only. RJ-4250WBL supports both WiFi and Bluetooth. Both printers can print text and images using the Brother Print SDK app (Android). Here is the link: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brother.ptouch.sdk.printdemo&hl=en_US&gl=US. I am sure there are many Android apps that print images to many Brother printers. If you are a developer, you can also write your own with their SDK.
Note: remember they are thermal printers, which print only black and white.
What is the model of the ac adapter? Is it a separate purchase?
The answer can be found here download.brother.com/welcome/docp100391/rj-4250wb_4230b_use_ug_05.pdf. Page 22 said the AC Adapter model is PA-AD-600A. It also said the power adapter is optional. One might wonder why. I can only think of the reason that it is being a professional printer and you need to choose between AC adapter or a car adapter, also sold separately.
does it works only with a dedicated app?
Sorry for the late reply. Any apps written for the Brother RJ printers should work, including apps from Brother Industries. They also provide you with SDK in case you wish to write your own apps for iOS or Android devices. You can also download iOS apps called Label Print from KuO Inc. It does support the RJ-4230BL.
Home end users aren’t all developers and cannot all make their own app. I bought the 4250WBL last year and I can confirm there are next to no apps that work with it.
There are actually a lot of B2B apps for accounting/financial, POS, CRM, warehousing, shipping, etc. Remember that printers are considered as peripherals and the answers are usually hidden under developers' "supported printers" page, if any. Also, consider RJ4250WBL a WiFi/Bluetooth version, you can print to this printer using Windows, Mac, iOS, Android via WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB. Hope that helps.
If there were several apps you would be in a better position to provide more than just one demo app. I’m surprised how poor the app support is.
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your feedback. I am sure Brother will appreciate it. I don't work for Brother but I can understand that a lot of manufacturers prefer to give their developers the opportunities to create apps. Also, RJ-4230BL is considered as a professional/industrial grade printer. Many apps are custom made for their clients and they probably hidden from the app stores.
