Just a quick disclaimer to add that I am not a professional BSL teacher, and so there may be some little mistakes here! Please use this as an introduction video only! I'd highly recommend checking out Jessica Kellgreen Fozard (who is a wonderful deaf creator) for more :)
Emily Gwynneth So by that logic, deaf people who have BSL as their first language should not be allowed to teach it either because they’re not formally qualified to do so?
We want to make this channel as accessible as possible, soooo click 'CC' for subtitles!! i've written them all myself so this video can be enjoyed by as many people as possible! Hope you're all well ❤️
Jack Edwards Thank you so much for doing this!! There should be more awareness on captioning on videos for deaf viewers like myself! It is just not for deaf people, people who have auditory disorders or use English as an additional language benefits this! Again thank you so much! x
Can we add subtitles in different languages as well to make this accessible for an international audience ? With so many schools and universities closes I bet many people would love to follow this channel!!
Honestly, with all the stress of exams being cancelled, this channel is very much needed, thank you all for taking time out of your day to make us feel at ease ❤️
This daily 6pm little break is going to be so welcome in the next few days (weeks ?). Thank you guys for coming through and let's get motivated together !
Omg this was the most helpful thing, I've been wanting to learn sign language for a while but have just never had the motivation to learn, this has definitely help tysm Jack x
We learnt sign language in year 5 and this made me realise I remember a lot more of it than I thought I did as I started doing them before you showed it
I was just thinking this morning that wanted to learn sign language and that school being closed was the perfect time to do it but I had no idea how to start. So thank you so much
I'm not quite sure if this is your plan or not but could you please do another one of these with everyday signs: How to say hello/bye, how to tell someone you know some sign language etc This video and channel is an amazing idea! Thank you from us all x
Love this but can I point one thing out. For S you don’t use your pointer finger, you use your pinky. Other than that well done and thank you for captioning for those of us who are deaf!
I want to say Thankyou for making such an informative video for people to learn something new! I am a teaching assistant at a specialised school and we use makaton and letters of the alphabet! Looking forward to see what else this channel has in store😇
Wow . I definitely did expect something brilliant . But i never thought I'd get something i wanted to do so badly . And it's from jack . Oh this is too good for me . Thank you so much.
Omg jack I have loved this video so so much it’s been so fun to learn and really brightened my mood ! Xxx p.s hopefully coming to Durham uni next year so I’d love to see you !
Amazing idea, Jack! I'm learning Dutch Sign Language at the moment, but as I'm also a student of English, it's nice to learn a bit of British Sign Language, too!
I had actually hoped to learn some BSL at some point during what has become my 6 months off so this has come at a perfect time :) - I've even suggested this video to my mum who will still be working in a primary school as it's something fun for the kids to learn about!! xx
Jack, this is absolutely incredible! Thank-you so much! I cannot believe what I just learnt. I showed my parents who was actually impressed. (Me too.) Coronavirus might not be bad after all; it has bought a community together and keeping us going. Good for you guys running this channel: I look up to each one of you and have for a while. Thank-you all! 🖤🖤🖤 #signofthetimes
fantastic video, I have always wanted to learn sign language and with uni being cancelled it felt good to learn something new. It would be so great if this could become a series
Lovely idea Jack! I know makaton and BSL and use it at my placement where I work with non verbal service users. It’s so important!!! Thank you for spreading awareness!! 💚
Wow so nice of you to have replied! 😊 Hope you are doing better about the whole Oxford situation.. and that everything goes well for your third year!I’ve been watching your videos a little over a year and your experience at Durham gave me the courage to apply there.. still waiting for my reply but really glade I did it no matter what! So thanks for that too😉 Oh and Ps .. I love the BSL..it is so simple and logic compared to the Croatian and French ones👍🏻
Thats amazing Jack i am already fluent in Makaton * another format of sign language so amazing to see other people learning the alphabet ! Amazing thing to know
Omg I've not even finished this video yet only at 4.33 and I remember it without watching! I have recently learnt the Swedish hand alphabet, in STS, and I must say it it is considerably easier and only requires one hand. Oh well, seems like I'm going to learn this one as well...
Do i know any sign language? No Do i live in Britain? No Will i ever go to uk ? Probably not Will i ever need this ? Probably not Did i learn this ? Absolutely! It was surprisingly entertaining

Even though you put a disclaimer, you simply shouldn't teach if your not qualified
Emily Gwynneth nothing wrong with spreading awareness and introducing more people to BSL who otherwise may not be aware of it
@@sophieheritage478 yes but you shouldn't teach if not qualified.
Emily Gwynneth So by that logic, deaf people who have BSL as their first language should not be allowed to teach it either because they’re not formally qualified to do so?
@@sophieheritage478 no if you are deaf you can teach but if hearing you should be qualified or linked to deaf people in some way.
We want to make this channel as accessible as possible, soooo click 'CC' for subtitles!! i've written them all myself so this video can be enjoyed by as many people as possible! Hope you're all well ❤️
