I am buying from Riverford since a year . There is an option for 0 packaging veggie box ,too.
I grew up on an Organic farm in the late 70-ies
Their vegetables taste exactly like in my childhood
    Very tasty real vegetables
    That's why I am their costumer .
I don't buy fruits from them
because it wasn't ripe enough for me every time I bought but the veggies are absolutely delicious.
Next delivery day we'll pick up your boxes and they will reuse them if you leave them out.
    I love your channel
    Sorry about my English
    I am Hungarian

Thank you for reminding me how good Riverford is. I used them for years but when my husband died had to stop because the boxes were too much for one.
Now I have a couple more people in my household I am going to reacquaint myself . I look forward to your kitchen exploits!

I’m pleased that you got a good box from Riverford. I use one of their competitors (Abel and Cole) and that has a very similar ethos. One comment I would make is that I’m surprised at the amount of plastic packaging that has come with your box. The runner beans could have come in a paper bag for instance.
The one advantage my veg box supplier has is that you can chose the veg (this means I can chose what we like and also what I’m not growing in the allotment!)
    Hope you enjoy the food!

I maybe wrong, but I think paper is more intensive and dangerous in its production than plastic - I think also it is biodegradable plastic.

Richard Vobes - if it’s biodegradable then that’s good ‘plastic’; the difficulty is with disposal - at least paper degrades whereas plastic doesn’t really

Excellent project Richard. We are what we eat! Globally 1.2 billion tonnes of animal fodder is produced each year, with a financial value of over $400 billion. That’s means that an enormous amount of agricultural land, and fresh water, is now specifically focused on the production of meat. The udders of genetically created ‘Super-cows’ are so large, and produce so much milk, that they drag along the ground! 🤭☹️😱

New subscriber here! I got my third Riverford box this Wednesday and we love their veg! And the meat..not cheap but as you say, eat less meat, and buy better. It just grieves me that so many people can’t afford to buy organic , and will really be at the mercy of the hideously crap stuff heading our way if our hideous government get their way over USA trade deals. Did you watch Despatches programme on Channel4 this week? Like you, I’ve been following Guy Watson for some time and love and admire his ethos. Finally bit the bullet and now subscribe to the wonderful produce. Imma keen amateur Palin cook so look forward to your videos to come!

Spinach and Broccoli can also be grown in pots! Broccoli needs a big deep pot, and if you plant Basil in the same pot or in a separate pot close by you'll keep a fly away that lays eggs in the flower head. Basil will also keep regular house away, and it's a great herb. I have some plants growing in window boxes, except they are on the floor of my balcony. The boxes are great for plants like spinach, onions and beets.

Hi Richard I've been with Riverford for many years and their veg are usually very good quality and they also last much longer than anything you can buy in a store. If I have ever had a problem with my box (no one is perfect) it has always been resolved quickly. I would like to point out that unless you buy the 100% UK box some of the contents will have come from other countries. You can always see this by the flag next to the item. Good luck with your box and your cooking vlog

We've used Riverford for fruit and sometimes veg for some four or five years. It's not cheap and there've been times in our life we certainly couldn't have afforded the premium price (and make no mistake, there's a huge difference between Riverford and say Tesco prices)...but the taste is very good. Over a longer period it can get a little samey though, depending upon the season, because that's one of the hidden implications of organic shopping...you're eating what's in season, or what can be organically stored in preference to stuff flown in from all over the world (be ready for the occasional substitutions too because nature doesn't go by human rules!).
I couldn't and wouldn't speak for the nutrition, as I'm certainly no advert for healthy living...it's all a case of choice though isn't it?

Hi Richard, I was interested to see your veg box as I have looked at them myself. As we are both disabled we rely on home deliveries for most things and have been using Ocado for over 10 years now, regular weekly shopping.
I did a quick comparison to ease my mind as I thought you box seemed quite expensive and got a bit of a surprise. As near as I could get to equivalent items came to £11.79 including £2.50 for a punnet of raspberries.
One difference was several products were a larger pack size than yours, for example 2Kg potatoes for £2.
Free delivery within a 1 hour time slot when part of an order over £40 I think.
So maybe a little dearer overall but if the quality is good and the deliveries reliable etc.etc. and you trust the seller, I don't know! It will be interesting to see how you get on with the taste, quality and futher deliveries.
    Cheers, John & Kaz

Been there. Done that, on and off for the past 10-years, both with Riverford and Abel & Cole. It will be interesting to see if you come to the same conclusions as us. We are currently sourcing much of our fresh meat and veg direct from a Biodynamic farm.
Or you could buy all that lot from your local street market, or German supermarket, for one-third the price - but of course it will not have been produced in such a sustainable way and the quality may not be as good. It's all a matter of personal choice ...

We are on week thirty of boycotting all supermarkets for good. We refused to follow their one way system and other useless rules at the start of this world scam when spending our hard earned money in their store. It's liberating and we'respendong less. We're ordering in bulk from our independent health food store about 14 miles away, and have an organic veg box delivered weekly - all with local produce. We will NEVER set foot in another supermarket. Living rurally one does have to restructure food shopping and ensure we don't run out, but it's one of the best decisions we've made, along with riding our lives of a TV on 4th July 2015.

Grow your own Richard, I do using those transparent storage containers that you buy from DIY shops, you need a shallow one and a deep one and place one in the other, oh heres the idea its hard to explain ruclips.net/video/9xLRUADNpuc/видео.html&feature=emb_logo or here library.uniteddiversity.coop/Food/How_to_Self-watering_Container.pdf
The beauty of these systems is that they are self watering so you can go away for a week or more and not have all your veg die while your away, this year I have been growing tomatoes, carrots and courgettes, as well as chilies in smaller pots, I have 3 large self watering systems on my patio. you could easily have 6 or 7 in your back yard and if you built a small platform off the ground you could have them at waist height.

As your books are set in the 1930's & 40's this may be of passing interest as a resource of ways to cook your veggies. Its focus is on rationing but still relevant to a more simpler way of eating good food.
    the1940sexperiment.com/100-wartime-recipes/
We all agree that people of that era were a lot healthier than today. I have made one or two including No 127 (bean and veg shepards pie). You can alter the ingredients as they would have done in WW2.
Anyway, the veggies look good in that box and hope they produce a few good hearty meals.
