Wow. I totally needed this two weeks ago. There's a trivet under three feet of snow in my back yard that wouldn't be there if I had known about this tool. 🤣. Maybe I'll make one of these and fix her up in spring. Great video as always and rivits are cool.
I watch so many blacksmith channels (trying to get new ideas and techniques to get better) and I have made the joke that there is a “blacksmith wave-link” because often those of us that make videos have ideas, and the videos just happen to come out at the same or similar times. None of the smiths realized what the others were doing, it was just coincidence. Copying someone else’s video is NOT what we do, even if the subject matter happens to be the same. As you said “we all need the same or similar tools, so we make them. Need a tool make a tool :) And we appreciate you for making the content. Rivits are cool
Rivets R Cool😀. I made a bick iron, from a 1070/1080 steel, similar to you demo. Once I finished forging, I drove it point down into the damp sand&earth below my anvil stand. Left it to cool for about 2 hours. Upon inspection the next day, I discovered a crack in it. Not wide, nor very deep. I need to watch the hardening & tempering video now, to see where I screwed up 3 hours of work
Videos are great ! Thankfully the great comments far overwhelm the negatives. Anyone who has negative comment should show their body of work to back it up.
Rivets are cool. I enjoy your videos, it's nice to see hammer work things to make without a lot of power hammer. I'm a member of northwest ohio blacksmith our hammer in is the first weekend in May. I think you may know Butch Shelley if you see him about it. Good time.
Didn't think you was in John's shaldow but as you say we often do have that need of a rivit tool ever since someone started selling rivets and other basic needs. Thanks Roy but I built mine weeks ago and it works ...Thanks to people like John S. and Yourself.

I met a Man named Marty at Fort Uncompagrie in Delta 25 - 30 years ago that was a good Blacksmith, I think I met John at the Pioneer town Musem in Cedaredge

That's actually in the video pool already... It will be more branching scroll work with riveting first then welding them together. So be on the look out for that :-) God bless you Grayem
As you are working to expand the rod within the first 5 minutes, why don't you also spin the rod to help keep distortion down? Or does spinning between hammer blows not help? Thanks keep up the great work!
Rivets are cool! I saw a guy on you tube use a hammer and an anvil to (de)form hot steel. Are you copying this guy. And I saw you walking on two legs, I think I saw that before too, you copy cat. 😉😂. Forget about these troll guys they are of no importance, we (Your followers) just love to see you make black smithing videos. Keep up the good work!

Every body gets a kick out of the T-shirt from your Tee spring store, Not everybody's flavor of the day! I also have a shirt from Alec Steele, it shows a picture of a can of L Bow grease, you older smiths will will get what I mean by elbow grease.....
rivets are riveting, sarry have to do it my own way, they used to be a major way things were put togather, like boilers, bridges and buildings. say do you know why frogs make poor blacksmiths.... because they can only rivet rivet rivet. one way to know you are in a metalworking shop is when a cold cut, a punch, and a butcher are not things found in a grocery store. how do blacksmiths sleep well they just drift away. heh nuck nuck nuck
Really enjoyed the video, but I feel like every time I watch one of your videos, you waste so much time complaining about people and trolls. Rise above them and don't give them purchase in your mind
First off thank you for your comment and thank you for watching the video and I'm glad you enjoyed it all things considering :-) sometimes I do have a habit of addressing trolls in my videos but not in all as that is an inaccurate statement. There is over 1100 videos on this channel that bring in over 200 negative comments a month from the so-called trolls. It's easy to say don't let that get to you it's a lot harder to do when you read every comment both positive and negative. There is also the fortunate pleasure of having wonderful people like you and all the other guys and gals that watch me on a regular basis leave positive encouraging comments which is about 4,000 comments a month so that totally makes up for any of the negatives that we get. I will continue to do my best to highlight the positive commentary and none of the negatives in future videos. Hope you continue to watch and enjoy God bless and have a great day

Awesome video Roy. Have you done a video on reducing your anvil ring? Maybe it’s just the way your audio is set up but your anvil seems very quiet.

I was just curious why you used a tapered hardie shank instead of a typical tenon style hardie shank. Btw rivets are cool!
