A very important reason for the tunnel is the fact that the sea route on the Danish side is deeper than the one on the Swedish side. The sea route on the Swedish side goes under the cable staged bridge and in order to allow ship passage on the Danish side an even taller bridge would have been required. However the pylons for such a bridge would most likely have been over 200 m tall and to put such tall structures very close to the final approach to Copenhagen Airport's runways just would not have been safe. This is a beautiful bridge, and great engineering. Allowing ships, etc to still pass through the waterway. We also have 3 "bridge-tunnels" here in the Hampton Roads/757 area of Virginia, in the U.S.

I was puzzled by the building in the background that looked an awful lot like the Provo Temple, but didn't immediately make the connection. I mainly noticed the wrong flag for Denmark.
I'm glad I scrolled down to the comments because the facts in this video would've had me fooled. This is why I always rely on several sources and other people, not just one person. _Denmark is not Norway._ Incorrect facts aside, this is a really cool architectural marvel. Definitely something I think about be worth seeing on one's lifetime. This is going on the bucket list~

But I still think it's not okay. Have a nice day. 😊
*let us give a few silent seconds in Honor of the* *16 people that died while constructing this amazing bridge and tunnel* and give the 200 seriously wounded a thought too.
@@Skate771parts wrong, , this is statistics, if you hire many millions of manhours some people are going to die in accidents and more get seriously hurt, i have heard this number through the media and i know many who have heard the same its unvoidable, this is the hidden honor in every big construction all over the world, men that died to build them.
The water is not very deep where the bridge was built. The strait is deep in some areas, up to 50m deep, but its shallow where the bridge and tunnel is built, usually 5-8m deep except one small portion that is 12-14 deep to make it easier for large ships to pass through. When they built the bridge the very large crane boat (its shown at 2:06) couldnt even be in that shallow water. They had to dig trenches underwater for the boat.
Suggestion: If you're ever in Copenhagen and have a few hours, just take the train to Malmö and spend some time there. The train doesn't cost much, and you get to go on the bridge. I also noticed the wrong flag issue, but there are enough comments about that. :)
It's 89 Danish kroner (US$ 13.78 or €11.93) or 111 Swedish Kronor (US$ 12.37 or €10.71) for a one-way ticket, depending who you buy it from, so yes, quite expensive.
Love how they have a picture of Mormon missionaries in Provo, Utah (no earlier than the 1970s) holding up the Swedish and Norwegian flags while they're talking about Swedish and Danish government officials getting together to talk about building the bridge in 1930s.
Ok, say no more! - I'll make a video of it containing pure quesswork: The proud Virginia bridge build by tobacco slaves, to connect the Lone star state. And then a picture of the Canadian flag.
Exactly Almost every bridge in the Virginia Beach area is set up this exact same way and was build in the 50s Denmark is copying what we already had 😂 hell the Chesapeake bay bridge-tunnel had two tunnels In one bridge and it’s longest bridge-tunnel complex in the world
Aidan McGarry thank you sombody finally said it. Actually there’s two. Elizabeth tunnel in Norfolk area then another in Cheasapeake/Va Beach area. I live in Deep Creek (an area of Chesapeake)
This is probably the attempt at making an educating and insightful video with the most inaccurate sources on RUclips. First of, the picture showing Denmark and Sweden “joining forces” is a picture of people holding the Swedish and NORWEGIAN flags. No Danish people to be seen. Furthermore, there are not huge ice caps in the Øresund. And the “man made island” is not MILES from Copenhagen. I am happy every time Denmark gets a little attention around the world, but please base your content on real information. Thank you for the laugh! Best regards, Danish person

At 0:53 Not only is that a Norwegian flag instead of a Danish flag, but also, those aren't even Swedish or Norwegian people, nor are they in that country. That's an image of LDS missionaries at the Provo temple in Utah, USA xD

Drove this Bridge/Tunnel a few years ago whilst doing a Month long driving trip around Europe. It is an amazing feat of Engineering and a beautiful spectacle too
The bridge is an amazing feat of engineering (fact). Many other points raised in the video were incorrect and have upset Denmark 🇩🇰 for getting their flag incorrect and no mention of Sweden 🇸🇪 in the title (bit of an oversight there!). These two nations also create some exceptional television dramas like The Bridge (Broen/Bron) which I would strongly recommend watching as it is Nordic Noir at its best and also features this incredible bridge.
because most of the bridge is in Denmark besides Halland Skåne and Blekinge, has been danish longer than it has been Swedish it has only need Swedish for 370 odd years, compared to almost 700 years of beeing danish territory
I was encouraged to visit Malmo from Copenhagen because of this amazing super easy route. I took the train (2 ways) and felt as If I am still in one single country. Very well done.
I can’t believe you did all this work to make this video and didn’t tell the one thing I wanted to know 🗣️How deep is the tunnel “road” that goes under the ocean?
Thank You!!!!!! I'm from the Eastern Shore of Virginia which is on one end of it and Virginia Beach is the other. 17 miles to be exact with a pier and restuarant.
When I traveled last time from Copenhagen to Malmo inn1998 studies at WMU,, the bridge's construction had just begun. I kept wondering then as an African, how the folks were going to complete such a mind shattering project. Thought that it was an unimaginable project as the shuttle boat i was crossing the ocean in sailed quite close to the site. I have followed this project and vowed to drive on the bridge whenever am in Europe. Was excited to do so and shall do so again and again because I just love the two cities.
It would have been far more impressive if you had started this video with people holding Swedish and Danish flags rather than holding up the two Swedish and one Norwegian flag. Rather typical American blunder.
everybody cant know the nuances of everything i couldnt tell the difference till i googled it its almost the same flag all they did was take the blue line out n say "thatll work".. im sry he got ur flag wrong, n while i admit thats not an acceptable mistake when making a video thats suppose to b of this caliber it is a pretty typical thing of You to do to blame it on america.. lol it has nothing to do with being a normal human being that makes mistakes.. lol wtf :p not that im really defending america.. theres not much to defend at the moment were an embarrassment at least in my opinion
@Natalia I don't know man, I've never heard about an unintelligent danish stereotype. Americans, however, are known to be pretty ignorant about European countries. Not to say you're dumb or unintelligent, just uninformed.
And isn't it freaky to be in the middle and not see land in either direction? I did it back about 30 yrs ago as a bucket list item, and it was during a storm too.

I'm in complete awe, when I realized it actually went underwater, I was amazed! Wow that is so cool. Oh and the underside train, this is really an amazing piece of construction. I didnt think it was possible. Thats amazing!

I had an European trip in 2017. Started from Estonia, rode through Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and back to Estonia.
The Oresund bridge really was amazing along with the tunnel. Did not expect a quick ride from Copenhagen to Malmö.
* a European trip (not an, use an for words with a vowel sound, not necessarily a vowel)
LOL!!! Showing icebergs between Sweden and Denmark at 1:20 and a Swedish and Norwegian flag at 0:53...
Also.... "Rough seas" AAAAAAAaaaahahahah!!
ALSO... at 3:48: Kastrup is NOT a man made Island. Kastrup is a town on the island og Amager
AND for gods sake at 4:08... Icebergs are NOT an issue in that sea. It's warmer than much of Britain and Ireland.
Who made this shit?
Ogidni hahaha Saw that too
Considering he might have mistaken Denmark for Norway. Icebergs are not a problem in Norway either. Maybe in Russia it can be.
Lolol I can just imagine how annoyed you were when you wrote this reply 🤣🤣🤣 Cause I'd have been veeery annoyed too.
Funny
I'll tell your mom that you swor ogidni
Ive lived in Malmö all my life and I have never seen icebergs in Öresund
@Pablo EP and then it just MUST be true..because Americans are never wrong, just ask Trump :D
This is a beautiful bridge, and great engineering. Allowing ships, etc to still pass through the waterway. We also have 3 "bridge-tunnels" here in the Hampton Roads/757 area of Virginia, in the U.S.
I was just about to say this lol!!! Virginia actually has 2 bridges like this.
We only got two Bridges like this in the 757 area from Newport News to Suffolk and Hampton to Norfolk
@@jamaljamal59 hey, we have 3. HRBT, Monitor Merrimac, and Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
@@fryeguy115 you are absolutely right I forgot about Chesapeake Bridge-Tunnel

wait really?!?!?! no wonder it looks so much familiar
It looks amazing. I know we have underwater tunnels in New York, but our tunnels don't have that look of disappearing into the water.
Anyone notice that the picture of the people holding the flags in the beginning were LDS missionaries. It's in front of the LDS Provo Temple.
Devin Hinkson kool, I had to keep going back 2c that, I'm a convert in Mississippi and can not wait to move to Utah, I never heard of Mormons till I met the missionaries and started going to church now I've been a member for 2years and still can't believe how people can hate on a church so much
Recognized it immediately. Rock Canyon clinched it.
I was puzzled by the building in the background that looked an awful lot like the Provo Temple, but didn't immediately make the connection. I mainly noticed the wrong flag for Denmark.
*Devin Hinkson* ~Oi, vey ({; D ...!!!
That's hilarious. I thought it was on the border between Sweden and Norway or something. Didn't even notice the temple.
Wow its so pretty respects to the persons who built this marvel.
I'm glad I scrolled down to the comments because the facts in this video would've had me fooled. This is why I always rely on several sources and other people, not just one person. _Denmark is not Norway._
Incorrect facts aside, this is a really cool architectural marvel. Definitely something I think about be worth seeing on one's lifetime. This is going on the bucket list~
I was fortunate enough to free dive under that bridge earlier this year ( under the water ) . Spectacular to look up at such a wonderful piece of engineering
That’s what I want to see, videos of the bridge under the water
Ok forget about all the messed up facts and just admire the beautiful bridge.
Thank you it really amazing

its unvoidable, this is the hidden honor in every big construction all over the world, men that died to build them.
@@torrace12 my bad. I must have thought of something else
One of the greatest bridges ever built.

The flag in the middle is from Norway.....
The Danish flag is red with a white cross.....!

Congrats Andy . BTW ruclips.net/video/zue3iBz33Nc/видео.html
Hats off to the engineers🤚
Suggestion: If you're ever in Copenhagen and have a few hours, just take the train to Malmö and spend some time there. The train doesn't cost much, and you get to go on the bridge. I also noticed the wrong flag issue, but there are enough comments about that. :)
*roachtoasties* ~But, isn't it like *really* expensive, though...?!?
nah stay in copenhagen its better
It's 89 Danish kroner (US$ 13.78 or €11.93) or 111 Swedish Kronor (US$ 12.37 or €10.71) for a one-way ticket, depending who you buy it from, so yes, quite expensive.
Glad to have such a well-researched piece, well done.
I’m sorry to point this out but you did not show the Danish flag 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰 The one in the middle is Norway 🇳🇴 and Sweden 🇸🇪 on both sides.

Love how they have a picture of Mormon missionaries in Provo, Utah (no earlier than the 1970s) holding up the Swedish and Norwegian flags while they're talking about Swedish and Danish government officials getting together to talk about building the bridge in 1930s.
Hi Elwin
I have travelled through this route and it is really an amazing experience
The State of Virginia has this same setup years before this one was done.

Ok, say no more! - I'll make a video of it containing pure quesswork: The proud Virginia bridge build by tobacco slaves, to connect the Lone star state.
And then a picture of the Canadian flag.
Exactly Almost every bridge in the Virginia Beach area is set up this exact same way and was build in the 50s Denmark is copying what we already had 😂 hell the Chesapeake bay bridge-tunnel had two tunnels In one bridge and it’s longest bridge-tunnel complex in the world
Yeah but the Merrimac and HRBT aren't as large...
Thumbs down on this one.
You forgot to mention about the ice bears that disturb the traffic 🤣🤣🤣.
That to me is just amazing how people build things like this under water it's almost like magic to me .
4:06 the tunnel was made so planes wouldn’t risk crashing into the bridge, as there’s an airport on kastrup

Also Virginia Beach also has an underwater tunnel

You are aware, that it is the Norwegian flag and Swedish flag shown in the video. And Norway has nothing to do with the Øresund Bridge. And there is no Danish flag.

"Malmo, Sweden and Copenhagen, Denmark, pictured respectively" yet the photos were in the other order. :P Seriously, this needs to be pulled and re-edited, otherwise people out in the world are going to get really confused by some of the bad editing and wrong facts.
Now collapse because wave of water 💦....and lose soil...

I can’t believe you did all this work to make this video and didn’t tell the one thing I wanted to know 🗣️How deep is the tunnel “road” that goes under the ocean?
So we're talking about a bridge-tunnel system across nine miles of open water...
Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel: "Hold my beer"
Wow! A tunnel right in the middle of a bridge! I can't wait to tell my friends in Norfolk, Va. about THIS!

Very nice engineering, just like the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, the Monitor-Merrimack Bridge-Tunnel, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
It would have been far more impressive if you had started this video with people holding Swedish and Danish flags rather than holding up the two Swedish and one Norwegian flag. Rather typical American blunder.
