Making the format into a small tournament may slightly make it more competitive, but it's not gonna make a noticeable difference. Players actually played like a real game, or almost like a real game back in the days, we won't get that anymore, even with new formats.
I really don't think they need to complicate the All-Star Game with all these new formats and changes. It was solid for like, 60 years. They don't need to treat it like Game 7 of the NBA Finals, but all that needs to happen is the players give a little effort.
I commented this in a different video, but I believe the NBA should remodel All Star Weekend into NBA Cup Weekend. Fridays are the SFs, Saturday can be skills competition, and Sunday is the NBA Cup Final
That makes sense a lot of sense. I personally never have cared for the All Star game tbh. Been watching the NBA since 2008, it’s just not appealing to me, none of the formats. I just find it weird how you bring all these players that are competing against each other for a weekend towards the middle/end of the regular season. All star game would be cool in the beginning of the season. For example opening week, as the season opener, have the All Star game. Depending on how well the players did the previous season can determine whether they make it not into the team. This will allow them to showcase the best players & rookies (rising stars game). No excuse of “don’t want to get injured” before play offs. Many of the players wouldn’t have played since 5/6 months and would probably try.
@@chrisuncleahmad666 Have you seen an all star game from the 90s, or even early 2000s ? They actually try to play the game pretty seriously. Just because they score more than 100 doesn't mean there's no defense. 100 isn't that much, considering you have the best players in the league on the floor.
Eliminate 3-point shots just for the All-Star game. No 3-point line. That removes any incentive to shoot from a distance. I don't know if it would work, but it would be interesting.
I feel like the all star game needs more of an impact on determining the playoffs or the trajectory of the season itself. What if they did what they used to do in the mlb, where whichever league won got home advantage in the World Series? Or maybe they could reward just the individual mvp of the game home field advantage, or some type of bigger monetary reward, that would incentivize them to all ball out and try to be the best
All star game is a waste of time, any of the formats. Have the All Star Game/Weekend as the season opener. This would allow them to showcase the best players in the league, rookies, and would probably help a little with competitiveness. The players won’t have “don’t want to get injured before playoffs” excuse. Most of those players had 5-7 months off and probably wanting to play or showcase themselves in All Star weekend. A pick up game should have no repercussions on playoffs tbh. That is what the regular season is for.
Agreed with making it a showcase of the G-Leaguers & the Rising stars instead of the superstars just “being there”. Agree also with some of the sentiments here that it’s not the format that is the problem: it’s the lack of effort & competitiveness of players esp the household names.
He’s not even close to the worst commissioner in the 4 major sports. Gary Bettman and manfred are soo clearly worse and more detrimental to their leagues

I'm gonna give the format a chance because Adam Silver is clearly trying to make it even slightly more engaging. At this point its completely on the players.
I mean I guess it is, but like who cares? Idk why y’all ask for this. It doesn’t matter. It hasn’t matter mostly for decades or even longer. It has no effect on the season, on the Playoffs, or on the players legacies, and anything that does matter is just based on the AS selection itself
@@Sunju11 That’s true. I just don’t see change it there is no motivation to doing so. Players don’t care about some whiny fans who want them to try hard for a random game in the middle of the season that doesn’t contribute to anything. It’s there for them to have fun, and spend all that time doing stuff for fans and charities during the rest of the weekend. I think there needs to be an honest convo about why the players do what they do, and why they’d do something different
Ways to fix the all-star game: - Go back to East vs. West and have the winner get home court advantage for the finals. - Vote for players that will act as heels in the game like Dillon Brooks and Isaiah Stewart. - Have the game stats actually count towards awards or something tangible
No matter how the new all star game goes, the funniest thing that’s happened as a result will remain Ben Simmons saying he wouldn’t want to play in it.
Just keep it simple. Have each conference teams in west and east wear their team jerseys. Albeit give us a 2v2 tournament during all star weekend. I would a 1v1 tournament but today players are too scared. Imagine a 1v1 tournament in the early 00's between Kobe snd T Mac.
What if we go back to the draft format and everyone on the team that loses isn’t eligible to be an all-star in the next season. Definitely makes it more interesting and it’d help rotate the roosters so it’s not always the same guys making it every year and it’ll also give young guys a better chance to make an all-star team
With the technology nowadays they should make a hot spot system like back in the NBA jam days, where certain spots count for extra points. Defense would focus on keeping players away from that spot or making shooting from that spot harder without significantly increasing chances for injury. If a majority of the hotspots are in the mid-range area with a couple of three point ones to ensure a variety of shot selection, it would promote more creative basketball.
Since this channel talks about other sports besides the NBA, can you guys make contents about boxing? I mean I'm also a huge boxing fan here aside from being a huge basketball fan and I thought the first one you should make one is one of my favorite fighters ever in Manny Pacquiao. Thanks. Btw can you also consider add some clips of Peter Pan Return to Neverland in any of your videos? Thanks again.
It's incredibly stupid. It's so stupid that I'm actually not even going to watch this year. The NBA wants an easy fix to a problem that's hard to solve, and trying to take the easy way out is only making things worse.
The average all-star makes way too much *guaranteed* money to care about anything unless they are chasing the GOAT debate accolades. Players have been "rich" for a long time, but when every starter in league can be guaranteed the GDP of a small island nation, what insensitive is there to actually try after that? If your job promised you $100 million over 4 years just for your presence at the office, are you ever volunteering to work overtime? I want them to play hard for the love of the game too but league has alot of talent that just sees the game as a 9-5 and treat it that way.
At this point theres two options the NBA could do that could bring competition back to the all star game. Option 1 is whoever wins the all star game (East or West) will have home court advantage for the NBA finals. Option 2 is for the all star mvp to be given a 1 million dollar check for winning the award.
Best way to spice up All-Star game is to put something on the line, that gives the players some advantage during the season. For example, East vs West, whichever conference wins, gets the home advantage in the Finals, something like that adds some actual value.
I’ve heard it before and I honestly think they should implement this, whichever team wins (in a west vs East format) the all star game gets home court advantage in the finals.
Simple solution: East V West. Winner gets the playoffs finals home court advantage, loser conference gets 1st pick in the draft. (Makes next season harder for that conference)
The NHL is doing a similar format for their All-Star game which is a 4-team tournament of 3-on-3. Until last year, the 4 divisions had a team but last year was a draft. In my opinion, All-Star Games are supposed to be fun more than competitive but they need to have some kind of competition level so these mini-tournament of short form of a sport are a great idea for that type of event.
They should just make the skills challenge the main draw of all star weekend. Make east all stars and West all stars go against each other, then the winner of the east and winner of the west go against each other for the trophy and a cash prize. You can add the 3pt contest into it as well. 1st round could be the normal skills challenge, 2nd round could be a game of horse and the 3rd round could be a 1v1 up to 21. The Championship game could also be a 1v1 up to 21
At this point it comes down to the effort of the players as to if they really do genuinely care about this. At this point, I would just get rid of All-Star Weekend altogether and let the In-Season Tournament take its place or just let it be the trade deadline.
Move it to after the season. Have players play for end season awards. The top 4 candidates for mvp play a mini 1v1 tournament to 11pts a game. The clutch award goes to one of the top 4 candidates who compete 1v1 3 second scenario tournaments against the top defensive candidates. All nba award would be the replacement for the all star game. Have two teams compete for the all nba award and each team would have the coaches of the year. Whichever team wins gets 1st team all nba and the coach gets coach of the year. The rookie candidates of the year would compete in a mini 1v1 tourney as well. It’s not hard to do
The issue that I have is that they play harder during pickup games when no one is watching. This is blatant disrespectful to the fans because I know these guys hoop harder one-on-one when no one's watching. I just don't understand this. They don't care
I don’t think the amount of effort and attention the NBA has given to fixing the all-star game is really proportionate to how important the game is. They spend so much resources and energy trying to fix it, but who really cares about it. Ya it’s fun but it’s not like the game means anything. They should divert their attention elsewhere to fix other things in the league that actually matter

Hear me out: What if we bring the draft back. BUT every player that is voted an all star is gets to draft one player from his conference that he thinks is skilled but maybe overlooked or underrated to play in the voted guys place So the guy who gets “voted” still gets the credit for hall of fame talks or whatever, but the player that gets drafted gets incentives such as exposure, and maybe the nba keeps the 100k bonus. Also the mvp gets an extra bonus on top of that or something. So now we’re getting quality basketball from some of the best in the world, but the stars don’t have to risk injury or feel drained by making appearances and having to play basketball
I’m calling it: Reception for this ASG is gonna be positive and everyone’s gonna be surprised on how well it works. AND THEN next year everyone’s gonna be complaining saying the ASG is broken.
Shaq should draft Jokic as his first round pick, both as president of the big man alliance, and to make up for his disrespect around the MVP award last season. I think having the rising stars there is going to bring out a more serious game.
They just need to move the All-Star game to the end of the NBA season. Just put it right before the finals just like NFL does, that way players who are worried about injuries will still have plenty of months to recover from whatever happens. Go back to East-West. The players can play for a bonus based on the playoff revenue and All-Star revenue, and/or determine which side gets home court advantage in next year's Finals.
If you move it up, its gotta be that bye week between nfl conf champ games and super bowl. I love the NBA but know the NFL playoff grabs all the attention
Instead of changing the format, why not just give the winning conference (or if you do captain format) automatic home court advantage throughout the playoffs for that captain's nba team or the conference's team in the nba finals like how the MLB does. A simple answer right in front of silver's eyes that will give players something to play for. Also they should allow defensive 3 seconds for the ASG.
I think corporate is the right way to describe today's NBA. Before, the league used to have character, soul, where guys were playing for something bigger than themselves, but nowadays, everyone is just looking out for their own interest. Like it feels more like the players simply play games as a means of furthering their personal brand, and that is the only thing that really matters to them. Nothing wrong with securing the bag, but it just feels like the culture has swung almost entirely in that direction
I think they need to go back to the draft and give them higher cash winnings for the winners and put it in the beginning of the off season like a week after the finals
Until now no one is able to answer why you need freedom of movement when there is only one type of defense (zone) and waaay better healthcare, amenities and fitness. Also forgot that a simple touch is a foul. Players back then played 75-82 games and they feel awful for missing games as well as getting whacked nightly
The All Star game is just pointless to me. I don't think any amount of extra money or restructuring can make players put in the effort to really compete when what these guys need is a break. 82 games in just 6 months and then up to 2 months of playoffs is just an absolute slog. For everyone else the all star break is the one real breather where players can take the time to rest, relax, rehab, or even just strengthen their game. But for the best players in the league, that weekend is absolutely cram-packed with media events. Sure they get paid a lot for it, but clearly the extra money isn't really solving this problem.
It’s just sad that it’s come down to a point where these guys need some motivation to play hard and not intrinsically motivate the old heads in the past. Say what you will about them but they played hard when it came to the All-star games and you can’t deny that!
Don’t know why letting it decide finals home court advantage is so controversial. Make the game shorter with minutes restrictions to help avoid injuries. But if the game suddenly had a very real incentive, it’d be must see TV.
I blame the players for this! The players to me are the ones who basically continue to spit in the face of the fans… whether it’s “load management,” players using burner accounts to shit on their fans, and this all star game fiasco… by not giving a single thought of effort to the fans and coaches who fucking voted for them in this position to be an all star game… I’ve said it on numerous occasions, the players are the only league’s of the big four sports leagues that actively hate their fans
Most of those reasons for it changing don’t matter to me, but I liked what I heard with it being a game much earlier in the day. I think the game should just go away. Vote for an All-Star could stay. Hell, have the rest of the weekend if you want. Just stop the All-Star game
The point of the All-Star game was to showcase the best basketball players in the entire world playing the most competitive game of basketball of the entire year. The All-Star game should have more emotion than the NBA championship.
And they wonder why ratings are down. What's next doing away with an 'All Star' game and at exactly 41 games, have the teams with the best record in the east and west play each other? Then awrad the winner with a trophy like the In Season tournament does? Try this: Drop the all star game and the associated BS with it (the rising stars crap, 3-point contest). Then go to a 72 game schedule that makes the games a little more meaningful and maybe there isn't all this resting of 'star' players (which the public pays to see).
I think there should be a game, a random game in the season, no one, and I mean no one should go to a game so the NBA players can see we’re done with this BS.
If this sh*t becomes successful, nice. If not, NBA can still change it next year. Experimenting is still a good move. Personally, i don't want it, but let's see how it goes.
The all-star game has always been a friendlier game, but it used to be at least competitive. The players just don't give a shit anymore. Paul George getting injured in the exhibition gave a whole generation of NBA players the yips about trying outside of normal games. Until they fix that mentality, it'll be more of this shit
Those shaq and chuck impressions were top notch
Taken off guard that it got me coughing

If you move it up, its gotta be that bye week between nfl conf champ games and super bowl. I love the NBA but know the NFL playoff grabs all the attention
Here is an idea instead of the all star game play the nba cup final on the allstar weekend
There’s no pride with the NBA over paid superstars.
everything adam silver has introduced i like excluding the 2nd apron. i have faith
5:36 it said 12/28 😂
East vs. West, winner gets home court in the finals. It should work, there would be something at hand.
The league never had character or soul even in the 90s
It just rode the wave from MJ’s popularity
2:16 This part shows the sad reality
If this happened in a serious game the defense should end themselves 😂
How long until the rising stars will this whole tournament?
Finally a positive outlook on the new format. I actually like it. Obviously it hasn’t been working the last several years so why not try something new
I think they need to go back to the draft and give them higher cash winnings for the winners and put it in the beginning of the off season like a week after the finals
They should impliment the MLB format. East vs West, winning conference gets home court in the Finals 🤷♂️
Until now no one is able to answer why you need freedom of movement when there is only one type of defense (zone) and waaay better healthcare, amenities and fitness. Also forgot that a simple touch is a foul. Players back then played 75-82 games and they feel awful for missing games as well as getting whacked nightly
World vs USA all star edition would totally change the rating I feel like
I’m confused, it’s not like defense has ever really been played at all star. What’s so bad about scoring the basketball?
East vs west, hand checking, 250k to the winner 0 to the loser. 50k to the all star mvp. No fanfare just hoop.
to me this new format is like that kid who spends 10 min explaining something he could have just said in 3-5 phrases
The change is stupid im all for trying something different but the clear thing to do is a financial incentive and keep it east vs west.
Bro, DEFCON 5 means no danger, it's code for a normal peacefull state))
It’s just sad that it’s come down to a point where these guys need some motivation to play hard and not intrinsically motivate the old heads in the past.
Games deciding who gets home court advantage is called "the regular season"
3:12 so kobe comes back from the dead to play the all star game in 2024 to break his nose i see
I blame the players for this!
The players to me are the ones who basically continue to spit in the face of the fans…
whether it’s “load management,” players using burner accounts to shit on their fans, and this all star game fiasco…
by not giving a single thought of effort to the fans and coaches who fucking voted for them in this position to be an all star game…
I’ve said it on numerous occasions, the players are the only league’s of the big four sports leagues that actively hate their fans
Most of those reasons for it changing don’t matter to me, but I liked what I heard with it being a game much earlier in the day. I think the game should just go away. Vote for an All-Star could stay. Hell, have the rest of the weekend if you want. Just stop the All-Star game
I think rookies and sophomores vs east and west would be cool
There a king of the court tournament yet?
The point of the All-Star game was to showcase the best basketball players in the entire world playing the most competitive game of basketball of the entire year. The All-Star game should have more emotion than the NBA championship.
Same can be said for the other sports.
Just do a regular game with All-Stars. Is that too much to ask?
Do Americans vs non American players, it’ll get competitive real quick
Losing conference gets salaries cut in half. They all will be playing like maniacs.
The problem is that the players don’t care, so why should we care about them standing around no trying to win?
the all star game was to promote the nba and its stars originally. the league really doesn’t need that type of promotion anymore
The way we'll know if this format works is in the effort the players give at the all-star game.
The last time a team scored under 100 points in the NBA All Star Game was 1973
It’s not like players have effort when the score was 132-126
Honest question, why is the all star game in the middle of the season?
A mid season break. Would be weird to have a break during the first 2 weeks of the season, wouldn't it? 😂 but yeah, it's literally just for the break
Pay players to play the game, pay them MORE for winning the game!
More ways to get hurt. The all star game as it is makes sure fans get to see the best players on the court at the same time and no one gets hurt.
I blame the players. If they took the ASG seriously, we wouldn't need new formats.
they need to at least add 10 points to each target score, 40 and 25 are not enough
Scott McKnight tore his PCL in the All-Star game
